RZL 110 - Integration Paper

The group has chosen to create a podcast as their project for their course on Rizal. They will discuss their perspectives, opinions, and lessons learned about Rizal in a casual conversation format. A podcast was selected because it allows for an informal discussion that could make Rizal's story more relatable and entertaining for listeners. The goal is to demonstrate their understanding of Rizal beyond textbooks and show how modern students can learn from his experiences as a Filipino who suffered under colonial rule.

For the integration project of the course "RZL110-The Life and Works of Rizal”,

the students are asked to make a project that would incorporate their knowledge and

learnings/lessons that have been acquired from this course. Any creative form is

possible here as long as Rizal should be discussed and well-presented in a way that will

get and catch the attention of the Filipino youth, specifically the college students. Since

we are in a modern era, there are so many possible ways due to the presence of

technology, such as vlogs, documentaries, and podcasts, in presenting Rizal but in a

way that will touch the personal thoughts, ideas, perspectives, or opinions of the

students. After we had a meeting with the group, we came up with a decision with the

project that is easy to produce and efficient to create. In this case, the group had come

with an agreement that the project must be related in the modern period. Since the

students are discussing about the reflections in this course, the group would like to use

the podcast platforms.

According to research conducted and studied by Marie Charlotte Gotting and

spanning July 2021 to global podcast consumption, the total number of podcast

listeners throughout the globe has been gradually growing and is expected to continue

doing so. There are 332.2 million internet users worldwide who listened to podcasts in

the year 2020, but that figure has increased to 383.7 million in the year 2021 (Gotting,

2022). As a result of the rise in demand for podcasts, an increasing number of people

and small organizations are beginning to use this distribution method. Additionally,

significant firms are making efforts to establish their television series. According to the

research that is conducted by Insider Intelligence, there will be 424.2 million podcast

listeners throughout the globe by the year 2022. This is a projection that podcast

listeners will account for 20.3% of all internet users by that year (Wise, 2022).

A program that covers a particular subject and is posted online is called a

podcast. In addition, according to the Burton(2021), a podcast is a grouping or series of

online-accessible digital audio recordings that may either be downloaded or streamed.

To put this definition into Layman's terms, you could say that a podcast is a focused

broadcast in the video and the audio format that discusses a specific theme that the

listener finds attractive. The number of hosts on a podcast can also vary in either some

prefer to work alone, or while others prefer to work in groups. A podcast offers the

countless opportunities since it enables listeners to form more robust associations with

the subject. Unlike the radio and talk shows, it is not performed in a formal

environment, and it allows the hosts to speak informally so that they may speak to a

particular audience.
The students believed that through a podcast, we could deliver and be able to

share and discuss our opinions, perspectives, and learnings of Rizal. A podcast is a

great way to use during this kind of discussion because we interact through the

different stories and different experiences. Believe it or not, many people can only

handle taking the little pieces of information without zoning out. Through the

podcasts, we can communicate in a way that will be remembered. The emotional

feeling of a good podcast takes its listener on their journey. Here, the students could

talk about each other's perspectives, opinions, learnings, and takeaways regarding

learning the teachings of Rizal. This does benefit not only the listeners, but also the

audience as well. The students believe that a podcast is the most suitable tool for this

project because it humanizes the topic outside the reigns of an academic setting while

making it digestible and easier to consume. The group members believe that a podcast

can make it more relatable through a conversation or a discussion. The podcast aims to

make it easier for the host to share their thoughts, opinions, perspectives, and learnings

and acquire an understanding of the subject while entertaining the listeners.

Students should study Rizal as someone who was just like them, a Filipino who

suffered at the hands of those at the top. Above importantly, the study should show

how the typical Filipino can understand, relate to and learn from him. The study should

demonstrate that they comprehend, understand him outside of textbooks and lectures.

There is nothing more to offer to the study of Rizal's life. There are hundreds of books

and studies have previously been produced about his life, his works and his activities.

Our project would be unneeded if we presented it in the way of our talks. Moreover,
studying Dr. Jose Rizal’s life is already enough and we cannot add or erase the other

things about him. Being a student who studied The Life and Works of Rizal, the words

that is written on the books that he made is enough for us to gain knowledge on how

we should fight and honor our nation.

With such information and its reflected appreciation to discourse wisdom in

learning Rizal, it highlights an appreciation into such interview-like discussion to much

approach of the studying Rizal on just an academic level. Realizations happened,

interesting terms were expressed to which even comes a change of viewpoint, such as

sensing the value of appreciation being as a Filipino. This such discussion is made such

as the learnings ideologies and valuing the essence of time put in the work we do and

act unto the everyday life. What is unique regarding to this podcast is that the motion it

gives resembles to what structure a student’s mind to function, it shows how the span

of two months with the best effort to have knowledge of Rizal can actually impact a lot

to care about as they move on to new heights from time to time. The environment does

settle into a chilling environment but more progressive into compromising Rizal’s

knowledge into the fellow audience.
