Lesson 1: Functionalism 

 As a student, what are your thoughts on meritocracy? Do you find


it fair and helpful to you? Society?
Educational system is an essential component of a meritocratic society because merit is the
only track for low-status students to reach upward mobility. Belief in School Meritocracy is a
specifically helpful system-justifying tool to help them perceive their place in society as being
deserved.

 As a student, member of the family, in what ways do I contribute


and not contribute order to the class and family?
Be aware. Spread awareness about things that are bothersome. Promote a healthy environment. Take
part or start small activities or events that help others. The family will be responsible for shaping a child
and influencing their values, skills, socialization, and security. The family as a particularly important
institution as they see it as the 'basic building block' of society which performs the crucial functions of
socializing the young and meeting the emotional needs of its members.

 What strike you most in this lesson that you can apply to your own
life?
Teaches the perspectives that that families perform functions such as socializing children,
providing emotional and practical support, regulating sexual activity and reproduction, and
providing social identity.
Lesson 2: Conflict theory
 Is conflict good or bad?
Conflict can be good or bad. Conflict has the capacity not only to cause harm and pain, but also
to create a positive change for us. A possible reason for its bad reputation is that conflicts are
often poorly managed and handled in painful way.
It produces new ideas, solves continuous problems, provides an opportunity for people and
teams to expand their skills, and fosters creativity. When opposing ideas are explored, a
breakthrough of thinking can occur. Without conflict, you have “groupthink,” which discourages
innovation.

 Should we avoid or eliminate conflict in an organization or institution?


Conflict, while often avoided, is not necessarily bad. In fact, conflict can be good for
organizations because it encourages open-mindedness and helps avoid the tendency toward
group think that many organizations fall prey to.

 How should we respond to situations when there is conflict?


1. Recognize The Conflict. The first step to resolving conflicts is recognizing when a
conflict exists.
2. Focus On What They Can Control.
3. Find Out What They Can Do to Resolve the Conflict.
4. Be Assertive.
5. Make Suggestions.
6. Many conflicts can be avoided by employees being on the same page about
what they are doing. The worst thing that can be done is to ignore that there is
any sort of conflict. Even if there hasn't been a dispute, in most cases tension
can be felt. Conflict like this usually does not go away on its own.

 If you happen to belong to the ruling / upper class of society, what would
you do with your resources? If you happen to belong to the working class,
what will you do to get quality education?
Create a financial grants or financial aid to support a student's education, awarded on
the basis of academic or other achievement such as sports, cultural inclination and arts.
Changes don’t happen unless you take charge. Talk to people who have similar interest
and the drive to do something good for the community. Gather in underprivileged kids
who are willing to learn in and around your locality and teach them. Talk to their parents
about your initiative/plan and get them on board. Teach them basics like Numbers and
English alphabets. This initiative would make the kids want to learn more and go to
schools. Ignite the spark of learning in these kids; they would be grateful to you forever.
 What thoughts strike you most about conflict theory?

Conflict in as a student, as an employee and as a mother. But this made me stronger


and being able to focus on time management.  produces new ideas, solves continuous
problems, provides an opportunity for people and teams to expand their skills, and
fosters creativity. When opposing ideas are explored, a breakthrough of thinking can
occur.

Lesson 3: Symbolic Interactionism

1. As a future teacher, how would you like your students to perceive you? Based
on how you want to be perceived, how would you interact with your students?

 Become a role model for student interest. ...


 Get to know your students. ...
 Use examples freely. ...
 Use a variety of student-active teaching activities. ...
 Set realistic performance goals. ...
 Place appropriate emphasis on testing and grading. ...
 Be free with praise and constructive in criticism.

• 3. As a student, what is your reason for pursuing/ taking this course? How
do you see yourself after graduating?
It is rewarding as making a tangible difference in shaping the lives of young people,
inspiring and mentoring them to become the best they can be. After graduating with this
courseware, I see myself the next few years, I will try to fulfill all my plans with all my
strength as a future educator.
