Research Proposal

The document outlines a research proposal on child labor in the Dodowa District of Ghana. It will study the causes and consequences of child labor, with a focus on children working at home. The research aims to improve socioeconomic protections for vulnerable families, strengthen partnerships to address the issue, and identify best practices to inform policies to prevent and combat child labor. It will explore the challenges of poverty, limited work and education opportunities, and cultural factors that contribute to the problem through interviews with children in the target area. The results may not be generally applicable and data collection relies on children's perspectives.

Research Topic: Child Labour in the Dodowa District

Research Proposal

1. Background

Child labor is work that prevents children from being harmed or sent to school. The
International Labor Organization estimates that 215 million children between the ages
of 5 and 17 are currently working in situations that are considered illegal, dangerous,
or highly exploitative. Underage children work in all kinds of jobs around the world,
mainly because they and their families are so poor. Many children work in
commercial agriculture, fishing, manufacturing, mining and household chores. Some
children are engaged in illegal activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution.
Child labor is defined as the phenomenon of underage children working for money,
food and other basic needs.

There are thousands of children who work as workers in factories, construction sites,
and homes. This is an urgent issue for the government and the public. Children who
work as workers have to do backbreaking work all day long; such as carrying stones
at quarries and gold mining sites, and using/working close to industrial machinery.
Working in proximity to such machines, however, puts these children at risk of dying
(which sometimes occurs)

Poverty and financial difficulties are the main reasons people send their children to
work. Most of the poor are uneducated and therefore unfamiliar with science and
technology. They are still surrounded by superstitions and false beliefs. The
population is growing rapidly every day and there is unlimited demand for people
beyond limited opportunities, which can also be seen as a reason for child labor,
especially in the countryside. The solution to this problem lies in economic
development and the work of all. Governments and other organizations need to take
the necessary steps to end poverty, literacy and narrowness. This will automatically
end child labor.

2.Problem Description
A study of the causes and consequences of child labor in the Dodowa District with a
focus on children working at home.

3. Aims and Objectives

3.The research hopes to achieve the following:
I. Improve socioeconomic safety nets for families and communities in the Dodowa
district, including policies to prohibit child labor and reintegrate victims
II. Partnerships and networking between non-state actors, government policy-making
institutions, agencies, and local governments, private firms, local communities, and
child ombudspersons at the local, national, and/or international level are being formed
and strengthened.

III. Activities aimed at encouraging the development, implementation, and monitoring

of social protection initiatives and projects aimed at preventing and/or combating
child labor.

IV. Best practices, lessons gained, and novel approaches to enhancing and monitoring
the formulation and implementation of social protection policies to combat child labor
and minimize children's vulnerability, including gender-specific vulnerability

4. Doctrinal foundation

I. Poverty is defined as a state or condition in which an individual or a group lacks the

financial means and necessities for a basic level of living. Poverty is defined as a
situation in which one's earnings from work are insufficient to meet fundamental
human requirements. Poverty-stricken individuals and families may be deprived of
adequate shelter, safe drinking water, nutritious food, and medical care.

II. Access to respectable work is limited.

'Children who have been exposed to child labor typically lack the basic educational
foundation that would allow them to gain skills and improve their chances of a decent
adult working life.' If young people cannot find work that is safe, gives social
protection, pays fairly, treats men and women equally, and allows workers to express
their thoughts, they are often forced to do dangerous jobs. It is also considered child
labor when youngsters over the age of the minimum working age perform dangerous
jobs.

III. Inadequate access to high-quality education

'One of the most essential elements is the availability and quality of education.'
School should be a friendly environment with suitable class sizes, a curriculum
tailored to the requirements of the community, and be accessible to rural residents. It's
one thing to get kids into school and out of dangerous jobs; it's another to keep them
there and ensure that everyone has access to a high-quality education

IV. Child labor is poorly understood.

'The belief that employment is beneficial to children's character development and skill
development.' Families who are unaware of the dangers of child labor and how they
affect their child's health, safety, well-being, and future are more likely to send their
children to work. Child labor can also be influenced by cultural ideas and social
conventions.

5. Hypothesis
I. When did you first begin working at this house?

II. Do you attend any type of formal education?

III. What are the tasks that you must complete each day?

6. Methodology
The research is descriptive and exploratory in nature. It is descriptive since it is based
on extensive research and records the research field. It is exploratory since the
information generated from the study has been focused on analyzing approaches to
reduce child labor.

7. Limitation of study

I. Since the exploration depends on the state of road kids in the Dodowa District, it
may not be relevant generally.

II. Study is done through talk with the actual kids so they might not be able to provide
exact data.

III. It doesn't cover a wide extension since it is an exceptionally huge theme
