05 PEXb XP650 - 1. TDS (Data Sheet)

This document summarizes the specifications and processing instructions for POLYLINK XP650, a silane based crosslinkable HDPE compound for heating and sanitary pipes. It has a melt flow rate of 1.0 g/10min, density of 0.954 g/cm3, and tensile strength of 250 kg/cm2. XP650 requires the addition of 5% catalyst M/B during processing and curing. Standard extrusion equipment can be used, with processing temperatures ranging from 160-210°C. Curing is achieved through hot water immersion, steam exposure, or ambient air exposure. Colorants can be added at 1-3% by weight. The product should be stored in closed bags

PROCESSING
XP650 must be added with catalyst M/B to promote curing.
Catalyst M/B dosage is 5% by weight and blending must be done just before using (2-3
hours max.), preferably in the extruder hopper. Catalyst M/B doesn’t need any pre-drying.
XP650 is sensitive to moisture; open bags must be used within 12 hours.

EXTRUSION EQUIPMENT
Standard extruders for thermoplastics equipped with compression screw (1:2.5
compression ratio and 20~25 L/D ratio are suggested)
n To use stainless steel screen pack of 40~80mesh before the crosshead
n To use chromium plated extrusion dies in order to achieve a smooth surface.
PROCESSING TEMPERATURE
Extruder Cylinder 1 Cylinder 2 Cylinder 3 Cylinder 4 Head Dies
℃ 160~170 170~180 180~190 190~200 200~210 200~210

CURING
- By immersion in hot water at 70-80°C
- By exposure to low pressure steam (about 0.15 bar)
- By exposure in ambient at 10-30°C for some days

In all cases curing time depends on the thickness of extruded products ; for 0.7-1.2 mm
wall thickness 3-6 hours are generally necessary in case of forced curing in hot water and
12-16 hours in case of curing in steam room; in case of self curing, time depends also on
the specific ambient conditions.

COLORING
PE based M/B added at 1 ~ 3% (approx.) by weight; pre-drying of color M/B is suggested
if moisture absorption occurred during storage (4-6 hours at 60 ~ 70°C).

STORAGE
The product should be stored under the following conditions:
- Closed and unbroken bags
- Ambient temperature not exceeding 30°C
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight and weathering
The product has a minimum shelf life of 10 months under normal conditions.

PACKAGING
25kg / 500kg (Aluminum multi layer)
