Question no 01:
The following table gives the marks of 58 students in Statistics. Calculate the average marks of this group.
Marks No of Students X fX
(f)

0-10 4 5 20

10-20 6 15 90

20-30 8 25 200

30-40 10 35 350

40-50 3 45 135

50-60 2 55 110

60-70 1 65 65

∑f = 34 ∑fX = 970

Mean = ∑fX/∑f
= 970/34
Mean = 28.52

Question no 02:
For the following data set discuss shape of data.
20. 24, 27, 30, 32, 35, 36, 40, 41, 43
Mean = ∑Xi/n
= 20 + 24 + 27 + 30 + 32 + 35 + 36 + 40 + 41 + 43/10
= 32.8
Median = 32 + 35
= 67/2
= 33.5
Mode = 3Median -2Mean
= 3×33.5 – 2×32.8
= 34.9
Here the situation is Mean<Median<Mode which shows that distribution is skewed to left or negatively
skewed. As shown in Diagram:
Question no 03:
Let us take the following frequency distribution
Class Interval Frequency C.F X Log X f.LogX

30-40 4 4 35 1.54 6.16

40-50 6 10 45 1.65 9.9

50-60 8 18 55 1.74 13.92

60-70 12 30 65 1.81 21.72

70-80 9 39 75 1.87 16.83

80-90 7 46 85 1.92 13.44

90-100 4 50 95 1.97 7.88

∑f = 50 ∑f.LogX=
89.85

Find Median, Mode and G.M

a) Median = l + h/f × (∑f/2 – C)

Here l=60, h=10, f=12, C=18

Median = 60 + 10/12 × (25-18)
Median = 65.81
b) Mode = l + [(fm-f1)/(fm-f1)+(fm-f2)]×h
= 60 + [(12-8)/ (12-8) + (12-9)] ×10
= 60 + 5.71
= 65.71
c) G.M = Antilog (∑f Log Xi/∑f)
G.M = Antilog (89.85/50)
= Antilog (1.797)
G.M = 62.66
