Activity 5. Answer

This document analyzes data on the operating times of three brands of scientific pocket calculators before needing to be recharged. An ANOVA test is conducted to determine if there are significant differences in the average operating times between the brands. The ANOVA results show an F value of 5.41 and a p-value of 0.018, which is less than the significance level of 0.05. However, based on the decision rule, the null hypothesis of no difference between brands is accepted since the p-value is greater than 0.05. Therefore, the analysis finds no significant difference in the operating times of the three calculator brands before recharging.

Activity 5 (Analysis of Variance, F-test)

1. The following data represent the operating time in hours of the 3 types of scientific pocket
calculators before a recharge is required. Perform the Analysis of Variance (F-test) at 0.05 level
of significance. Test if significant difference exist in the average operating time before recharge.

Brand
A B C
4.8 6.7 7.6
5.6 6.9 7.2
4.7 7.2 7.6
6.2 5.8 6.8
4.4 5.4 6.3
6.9 6.3
4.8

STEPWISE METHOD:
I. Problem: Is there a significance difference on the operating time hours before time of
recharge?

II. Hypothesis:
Ho: There is no significance difference in the average operating hours before time of
discharge
Ha: There is a significance difference in the average operating hours before time of
discharge.

III. Level Of Significance:

α= 0.05
df= (k-1) and (N-1) – (k-1) = 2 and 15
IV. Statistics: Analysis of Variance (one-way)

P = 0.018.

Anova: Single Factor

V. Decision Rule:
F the P-value is less than or equal to 0.05 level of significance, reject Ho
P value is 0.018 is greater than 0.05, accepted Ho

VI. Conclusion:
The computed F-value was 5.41 with degrees of freedom of 2 and 15 at 0.05 level of
significance.
Having computed the p-value of 0.018 which is greater than the 0.05 level of significance
mark, the null hypothesis must be accepted.
Therefore, there was no significant difference in the operating time hours before time of
recharge. I Hence conclude that brands A,B and C were effective in their respective operating
hours before and after recharge.
