Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies
ENTREPRENEUR (än-trə-p(r)ə-ˈnər) - “a person who
starts a business and is willing to risk loss in order to
make money”
one who organizes, manages, and assumes the
risks of a business or enterprise.
COMPETENT (ˈkäm-pə-tənt) - proper or
rightly pertinent, having requisite or adequate
ability or qualities

1. Opportunity Seeking- always looking for an


opportunity to create profitable ventures.

They demonstrate the following behaviours:

- Seize unusual opportunities to start a new business, obtain


financing, equipment, land, work space or assistance.

1. Goal Setting – remember the word SMART here (Specific,


Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound) in setting
goal as an entrepreneur.

- Set goals and objectives which are personally meaningful


and challenging;

- Articulate clear and specific long-term goals; and


- Set measurable short-term objectives.

2. Information Seeking – a successful entrepreneur always


seek information to improve his/her business in short
information to innovate.

-Personally seek information from customers, suppliers and

-Do personal research on how to provide a product or

3. Systematic planning and Mentoring – ability to create a


well organized and efficient plan that is logically sound,
simple and practical.

-Plan by breaking large tasks down into sub-tasks with clear
time-frames;

-Keep financial records and use them to make decisions.

1. Persuasion and Networking – Making people believe in


you or your products

They demonstrate the following behaviours:

-Use deliberate strategies to influence and persuade others;

-Use key people as agents to achieve own objectives; and

-Take action to develop and maintain a network of business


contacts.

no matter how it is difficult.
They demonstrate the following behaviours:

Environment and Market

Marketing environment implies the atmosphere of


the market which consists of the internal
environment, micro-environment and macro-
environment. It manages the various forces and
factors of the organization that influences their
marketing management skills to develop and retain
favorable transactions with its recognized customers.

ASSIMILATION
ENVIRONMENT FACTORS

1.Natural and Physical Environment – refers


to actual or physical location of the business.
2. Demography – refers to size or population
of your potential market.
3. Culture – refers to people way of life.
4. Government Regulation – legality of your
business,
5. Economy – effective management of
production consumption and trade of
limited goods or services.
Opportunities in Animation

At some point that some animators tend to leave the country to


work in studios like in Singapore or Malaysia for a better pay there
are some company that welcomed freelance work arrangement. In
free-lance you set rates, set time, have contracts to agree upon.
Now assess your PECs and decide to start your own animation
business you can have it in the comfort of your home. Or rent a
small space for your animation business.

Here is a sample business plan that can give you idea to jump start
your plan.
1. Identify and decide the kind of service you want to do.
2. Build a Team
3. Create a working Name.
a. It should reflect what your business is all about
b. It should create a goof impression and can be easily
remember
c. It should suggest that you are running a company and not
just one man show.

. Create a business Plan – A business plan does not necessarily have to


be long but rather should contain summary that defines what you think
is needed to launch your business. The following are the elements.
a. Business Concept -defines the business as a whole and gives
insight on what product or service will be sold, its target market, the
products USP, and how you achieve it.
b. Financial Overview- a projection or estimate of your yearly
income and expenses to see if in fat the business is profitable
c. Capital Requirements – states the amount of money you will need
to start the business and to operate, expand as well as the source.
d. Company Legal Status – states relevant information about the
company itself. The kind of business entity it will have whether
proprietary, partnership or corporation.
e. Goals and Milestone- refers to target indicators that the company
must achieve in order to manifest any development if the business has
become a success.

In case being an entrepreneur is not your forte and still
wondering on what career you are leading to there are
some other option you may start a career in animation like
the following area;
1. Mechanical animation
2. Science and Engineering
3. Forensic animation
4. Medical animation

6. Computer Game animation
7. Web and graphic animation

The following are some position that you can get into if you
will be entering in an animation industry;
1. In-between Artist – creates the transition images for the
character movement between two key frames.
2. Character rigger – manipulates the geometry of the
character as its moves or interact within a scene.
3. Render wrangler – monitors an controls the rendering
process with either one or few rendering computers up to
hundreds of computers as in a “rendering farm”
4. Stop motion animator – uses different modeling media like
puppets or clay to produced animated films.
5. Background Painter-responsible for creating backgrounds
for animated film.

6. Lightning Technician – creates light rigs for shots and is
responsible for ensuring the correct lightning and shadow effects
in the animated film.
7. Correct Key artist- develops the color scheme for the back
grounds used in animated film.
8. Storyboard artist – responsible for drawing the scenes that will
be used in the animated film.
9. Concept artist – creates the overall visual concepts for an
animated film.
10. Independent film maker - produced animated film outside of
major animation studios.

Knowing different career path in animation choose at


least 3 career that interest you and explain it via
recorded video of yourself for maximum of 2 minutes in
3 parts.

animation is your chosen track.

Part 3 | What are your plans in the two years of stay in
