Replay & Realtime Monitoring System 1. Overview
Users Guide 1.1 Access Rights and Configuration

1 Overview

1.1 Access Rights and Configuration

The installation of the Replay & Realtime Monitoring System may only be carried out by a user with NT
Administrator rights. After the installation it is necessary to set user rights for using the system.
Therefore set the needed rights for the replay folder (default: C:\Program Files\Replay).
The detailed system requirements may be found in the chapter Installation.

1.2 Selecting Data from the Local Archive

To replay a dataset start the application VDR Data Replay and choose the option File -> Open in the
main menu bar. Afterwards a new window VDR Archive will be open.
VDR Archive displayes the downloaded datasets and offers the possibility for dataset management.
Choose the wanted dataset by a double-click or press the open button. Then select the replay period and
confirm by clicking the Apply button, the dataset will then be loaded for replay.

1.3 Download Data

For downloading a dataset are two options available.

Only downloading a dataset - start the program VDR Archive and choose the option File -> New... in the
main menu bar. A new window VDR Data Transfer opens.
If starting the program has finished, the download source should be chosen (e.g. VDR Harddisk or Final
Recording Medium) and the time periode should be adjusted by using the trackbar. After you press the
button Transfer the download of the data starts. For special download settings, choose the option Extras
in the main menu bar before starting the download.
Download a dataset with the VDR Data Replay - start this application and choose the option File ->
Open archive. The program VDR Archive starts. The download procedure is the same as described
above.
Data which where downloaded from the VDR are temporarily stored in the Replay System local archive.
Once the data has been downloaded, you can use VDR Archive to archive permanently. Data that has
not been archived will be overwritten by a next download from the VDR.
Up to ten datasets may be stored in the local archive. After that, in order to store additional data, existing
entries in the local archive must either be delete or exported. Datasets that have been exported may be
imported back to the local archive and replayed at any time.

1.4 Graphical presentation of data

On the left hand side of the VDR Data Replay screen there are tabs containing different information. The
actual number and contents of these tabs depend on the equipment onboard the vessel. The following
data may be presented throughout the replay period.
• Machinery operating parameters e.g. power, revolutions, rudder angles

3.2 Navigational Information

On the right hand side of the Replay & Realtime Monitoring System the
ship's navigational information will be displayed together with information
about any objects tracked in ARPA.
The navigational information shows the following properties:
· time (local time, time UTC, current date)
· Position (latitude, longitude)
· Speed/Course (speed, course, and heading
Data, relating to any tracked objects, are shown in the ARPA Targets
field. The number in the header shows the number of currently tracked
objects.
The target properties of the selected target will be shown:
· Number in ARPA System
· Distance
· Bearing
· Course over ground

3.2.1 Priority Adjustment of Navigational Information

Most of the ships have more than one interface and therefore also more than one NMEA telegram for the
displayed navigational information.
In standard case a priority list is used for every navigational property. Thereby the available navigational
information with the highest priority is displayed on the right side of the replay system and the own ship
target is drawn with this information on ECS. All other navigational information from further NMEA tele-
grams are shown on the additional nautical sheets at the left side of replay system.

But sometimes it could be from interest to draw the

own ship target and display navigational information
with a lower priority.
In this case the automatic priority list can be overs-
teered. It can be configured using a configuration
menu opend by clicking Computing Adjustment in
the category Settings of the main menu bar.
In the now opened configuration window are shown
all navigational information which are used to draw
the own ship target on the ECS.
For every item is shown a list of NMEA tele-
grams. The above telegram has the highest priority,
the following telegrams lower priorities
Only in the actual replay / monirtoring available NMEA sentences are enabled, all other sentences are
hided. In standard mode all items are configured as automatic and the NMEA sentence with the highest
priority per item is activated as base for navigational information.
To oversteer this configuration for an item the checkbox Automatic has to be disabled for the wanted
item. Than it is possible to change activation between the enabled NMEA sentences for this item.
This procedure can be done for one, ore more or all items of the configuration window. After the config-
uration is closed, the changed configuration will be active and the own ship target will be drawn with
different navigational information.

4.1 VDR Archive / Dataset Management

The VDR Archive is a dataset management application, which allows to archive, edit, import and export
different datasets. For starting the VDR Archive double-click the shortcut on the desktop.

First of all it is necessary to get a dataset, therefore are two options to get data. First option is to down-
load this data from a VDR, FRM or a Removable Volume. The second option is to import data from a
backup file (*.bck file).

4.1.1 Current Dataset

If there are datasets in the list available, it is possible to archive these datasets. Furthermore it is also
possible to delete these datasets. To protect a dataset from being overwritten, it can be archived in the
local archive by checking the according checkbox, marked in the figure below.

Fig. 4-1 Current Dataset

The local archive is located under the installation path of the Replay System. If the data is not archived,
it will only remain available until it is overwritten by new data loaded from the VDR.
Datasets that have been archived already have a checked Archived checkbox. Archived datasets can
be removed from the local archive by un-checking the checkbox to mark it for overwriting. Or by choosing
Delete from the file or popup menu to remove it immediately.
