5 Examples of Filipino Strength

Filipinos have strengths like being optimistic, hardworking, passionate, hospitable and respectful. However, these strengths can also be weaknesses. For example, being too optimistic can slow coping, and being hardworking can mean working far from family. Cultural factors like customs and social status can also turn strengths into weaknesses. Customs promote resilience even in bad situations. Lower social status means less options after calamities. To address this, Filipinos should practice self-reflection and analysis to make ethical, thoughtful decisions that consider the common good of all people.

1.

Give 5 more examples of Filipino strength of character

a. Optimistic
b. Hardworking
c. Passionate
d. Hospitable
e. Respectful

2. Take two of the examples of Filipino strengths you listed above and show how these
strengths can turn into our weaknesses at the same time, to our own disadvantage.
a. Optimistic
-Filipinos are hopeful, cheerful, and full of smiles even in bad times. I'm
optimistic because I have God who'll help me in difficult times and many
Filipinos are religious, each of every one of them have their hopes up because we
have God. Filipinos are full of hope, and we're always positive in any
circumstances. This strength can also be a weakness as it slows down the coping
mechanism of people. Being optimistic even in bad times shows how Filipinos
have nothing to do other than being hopeful ang positively waiting for better
things to come.
b. Hardworking
-Filipinos are very hardworking just to provide means for living. We are
admirable on how determined we are in doing our jobs and tasks. Some people
want to work hard even it means working far away from their family. They are
alone in a faraway place, interacting with strangers, and living a life far from what
it used to be. Some choose to be an OFW who's very willing to work hard in
another country for their family. This don't actually represent a weakness but
rather than a sacrifice to provide more and give their loved ones a better life.

3. Cite two cultural factors and explain how they turn our character strengths into
weaknesses. Illustrate with examples.
a. Customs
-Filipinos often follow the customs or what we are used to do. Sometimes
customs affect why our strengths turns to our weakness in a way of invalidating
what you feel when something bad happens. We are used to be resilient, to adapt
quickly and just smile even if the situation is bad. Example is after typhoon
calamity, victims have to think positively and doesn't have the time to think about
what they feel because they have to recover. This is one of the customs in our
country, to be resilient and to be resourceful.

b. Social Status
-Majority of the Filipino families are from the low income or middle-income.
That's why social status is one of the factors why our strengths can become our
weakness because in real life, when you earn less than what you need gives you
less options to do what you have to do. Example are those calamity victims who's
from the low-income family, they have no means to build a new house
immediately so they can only be positive and hopeful that good days will come.

4. What steps would you take to address this problem, in order to change the culture you
cited in #3 and help our nation become more ethical group of individuals instead of
immoral people.
-I think Filipinos should learn on self-reflection and analysis to assess the
situation more carefully and thoroughly. To address the situations in number 3,
one must start from herself before analyzing the surroundings and think carefully
on what you've done or what you could have done. After this, one can now
analyze the situation of her surroundings to decide better while prioritizing the
good of all. One should have a sense of a common good and be an ethical group
of individuals to do more ethical actions than many can benefit.
