Pastors Corner
Now That Is Talent! I admit it! I am practically addicted to watching talent shows [mainly Britains Got Talent and Australias Got Talent with a little of Americas Got Talent]. I love to watch the goofy things people come up with and call it talent. I cringe at those who think they have talent and go on stage and make a fool out of themselves. But, above all of that, I love when a person comes out and the judges write them off as a disaster until they open their mouth and pure beauty and amazing talent come spilling forth. To watch the judges faces and see their utter shock is the best! I got to thinkingwhat if we treated people like that? What would happen if we began to watch for the talent in people? Not just the outward, easy-to-spot talent, but the real God-given talents that so many people have. First, would our eyes be open to it? Second, would we stand in amazement at their abilities? We talk so much about the talents that God has given us [using the parable in Matthew 25 usually] and the faithfulness that each of us need to have in using those talents for the masters glory. That, however, becomes so inward focus and we are much like those who think they have a certain talent but really dont and therefore struggle through a performance. [In saying that, everyone has been given talents, gifts, from the Lordit is the figuring out what exactly it is that can take time and discernment]. Rather than being inward focused let me challenge all of us to look for the talent in others. Most times they dont even see the talent. On the shows, the judges are most impressed with those who dont even realize how good they really are. We need to be the one who says, wow, you do that amazingly! or I didnt know you had that in youyou should use that ability in such and such a way. So on and so forth Ill give you an examplelisteningnow there is a rare talent. Next time someone really listens well to what you have to saythank them! Trust me, I have a lot of people to thank! Go find some talent!
In Christ, Pastor Matt

VBS Praises and Thank You

Inside Out & Upside Down on Main Street: Where Jesus makes a difference every day was the theme for this years VBS Week! Each day at Main Street the kids participated in the excitement of Sidewalk Celebration, experienced Jesus parables at Parable Productions, created service and craft projects at Fun Factory, enjoyed snacks and learned more about the Word on the Street at the Brown Bag Bistro, and played great games at Firehouse Fitness! And, through it all, they learned that Jesus life and loves makes a difference every day! New wacky friends at Main Street Heidi Claire, Chef Pierre mon Frre, and Justin Time helped kids learn why Main Street had been turned inside out and upside down. Kids explored and experienced stories Jesus told about everyday people in everyday situations. But His stories were anything but ordinary! Kids were challenged to retell Jesus stories, take a new look at what the Bible says about gratitude, compassion, forgiveness, grace ,and faithfulness, and let Jesus make an amazing difference in their everyday lives. We are grateful for everyones help! Thank you for your prayer and support of our VBS ministry. A big thanks to everyone who has donated time, supplies, and money! VBS Missions Project Tokens for Tornados

Throughout VBS week the kids brought offering for Tokens for Tornados. This was part of the EFCA TouchGlobal Crisis Response program helping with their Tornado Relief efforts.

During the week and with the offering taken on Sunday, $563.87 was raised and will go to Harvest Youth Center, a Boys and Girls Christian Club that serves community kids in Harvest, AL that was devastated by one of the 23 tornados that ravaged northern Alabama in the 24 hours after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27th. Melvin who runs the Harvest Youth Club said, We have about 103 homes. Only a dozen are being lived in right now. Harvest Youth Center is providing free meals all day and trying their best to supply basic needs of the community. Even with the devastation, Melvin has a hopeful outlook. This will draw us as a community closer to God. God allows things to happen with the ultimate outcome that He gets the glory and it prepares us for His Kingdom.

A Heartfelt Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped with Scotts viewing reception and funeral lunch. The Body of Christ at Keene was a shining spotlight on Jesus Christ. His love shone through you all, and His hand upon our church during this difficult time has been vividly evident. To Him be the glory! He is our strength and our comfort.

A Back To School Prayer

Our Lord and Heavenly Father, You have promised to watch over Your children and our loved ones wherever we may be. Bless and protect the millions of children and young people who are starting a new school year. Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of our children. They are so precious in Your sight, for You were once a child. You know Lord the many temptations and peer pressures that come to our young people every day. Shield them O Lord and guide them. Help them find godly friends who will support, encourage and uphold them to Christian faith. Our Heavenly Father, we are grateful to You for the many schools opening their doors to millions of students across the globe. Bless the teachers with true wisdom and may they teach not only academic instructions, but proper morals and love of God and higher authority. As they open their mouths to relay knowledge and wisdom, may their words be filled with inspiration and encouragement, that their students will be strengthened to use their knowledge in developing their talents and abilities to make a difference for the betterment of this world. Show us parents, teachers and students a special measure of Your grace, and lead us in the right paths. Help us not to lean in our own understanding, but in all our ways, may we acknowledge You. Give us all true wisdom which finds its joy in You. Dear Lord Jesus who has been our Teacher, help us to remember that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. May there be more prayerful parents, teachers and students who will stand up for You. May we cling to the truth, and may our lights so shine brightly that the world of learning may be reminded that knowledge is fleeting, but godly wisdom is eternal. Thank You O Lord of wisdom, our Sovereign and Mighty God, who shows us the Way, The Truth, and The Life through Jesus Christ, Our Savior. Continue to teach us our ways, bless our growth in grace, and give us deeper understanding of Your good and gracious will. To the Greatest Teacher who ever lived, Our Savior and Friend Jesus, may Your will be done according to Your promises. Amen. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding. To Him belongs eternal praise" Psalm 111:10 written by Gloria Tiquia
