English as a foreign language. The journals have similar topic of which is about politeness.
The theory of politeness is adopted from Brown’s and Levinson’s theory. The three journals
have the same perception that politeness is very important because it is a fundamental part of
culture which shapes human behavior within a society. The journals try to explore the practice
of politeness which was done by teachers and students. The practice of politeness by teachers
was observed in terms of greeting, giving instruction, giving motivation, giving evaluation,
and managing the class in the teaching-learning process. The practice of politeness by
students was observed in terms of getting attention, requesting, and thanking. The three
journals use class observation as the method in conducting research. Each journal has some

This journal observed interaction between students and teacher when conducting the
research; it did not just observe the teacher, so the researcher knows well about the
interaction; how teacher applies politeness in teaching and how students respond the
English as a foreign language, so it is not about the theory, but also the positive effect of
applying the politeness in the process of teaching and learning English as a foreign
language.
This journal has expired references since it used old journals as its references which were
published more than ten years before it. It should use current journals as references.

considering three factors; those are: formality of address phrase, degree of imposition,
and directness.
This journal focuses on pragmatic and politeness features, and the researcher tried to
overlook all grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors and kept in mind that the
requests are coming from a foreigner, grammatical and pragmatic features are integrated

norms; a clear indication of the importance of cultural and context awareness in teaching

This journal needs to give more explanation about the analysis of examples that it gives.
