ARCHITECURE Concentration

Project TOR Structure

The course work will be distributed over three chapters as follow, the first two chapters are group work,
while the third is individual.

• Chapter one: Site analysis and context studies.


• Chapter two: Core aspects and analysis of similar projects.
• Chapter three: Pre-design studies

Phase 1: Macro scale analysis & thematic approach – GROUP WORK

Chapter One: Site analysis and context studies

o Egypt’s Vision 2030.


o Climate Change challenges, issues, and indicators.
o Comparative city analysis.
o Site selection criteria.
o Relation with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
o Relation with current Governmental Plans.
o On Macro Scale: site analysis.
- Accessibility and movement pattern (Hierarchy of roads and Circulation Pedestrian
–Bicycles – Vehicle - Bus stops - Heavy traffic – Service- etc.).
- Parking, dimensions, setbacks, restrictions…. etc.
- Legal aspects.
- Sensory analysis (visible, auditable, tactile, olfactory, sea view…etc.).
- Land Budget and ownership
- Urban aspects (empty plots, green areas, surrounding activities and land uses,
publicservices, values, etc.).
- Architectural analysis (Styles, solid and void, softscape, hardscape, colors…etc.).
- Environmental analysis (climate analysis, and its considerations (Wind analysis,
natural hazards, floods, sun path, humidity, etc.).
- Natural and geological analysis (site topography, site contours, drainage, type of
rocks,trees…etc.).
- Socio-economic aspects (cultural activities, population, crafts, age, festivals, family
structure, income, values, beliefs, employment.).
o SWOT Analysis
- Site analysis aspects.
- Points of attractions and urban development status.
- Socio-cultural aspects.
- Economic aspects.
- Infrastructure and services aspects.

Chapter Two: Core aspects and analysis of similar projects

o Accessibility and design for all.


o Transit oriented development technology and appropriate technology (AT).
o Sustainability strategies and Net Zero Carbon (NZC)
o Human aspects, social connectedness, and environmental psychology
o Analysis of similar projects.

Structure (guide to study similar projects)

§ Basic data (name, type, location, designer, building gross area, site
area,budget).

§ Site criteria (main reasons for selecting this site).
§ Project concept and methodologies.

§ Bubble diagram sketches.

Phase 2: Pre-design studies & Project Schematic Approach - INDIVIDUAL

Chapter three: Project Master Plan Proposal


o Selecting micro scale sites.
o Micro scale analysis in relation to macro scape
o Define the design problems and constrains.
o Theme and design concept
o Design program (detailed space program)
o Concept architectural presentation.
o Master plan zoning and study sections.
o 3D schematic design showing not only form but also internal relations.
o Schematic master Plan
o Ideas of accessibility
o Ideas of sustainability
o Ideas of AT and relation to human aspects
