Auto Cad Assignment

Engineering drawings are technical drawings used to communicate design and construction plans. They include plans, elevations, sections, and technical drawings using principles like orthographic and perspective projections. Plans show the layout and dimensions of a structure from above. Elevations display the width and height of external surfaces. Sections cut through a structure to reveal interior details. Technical drawings specify dimensions, materials, and other details needed to build a design accurately. Civil engineers, contractors, and other professionals use engineering drawings as blueprints to construct buildings and infrastructure.

GROUP ASSIGNMENT C AND E

Civil engineering drawing is a graphic representation of an object or part of it which is a result

of creative thought by an engineer.

For example when someone sketches a map giving direction to some other person is known as
graphical communication.

It is widely used as a universal engineering language because it involves use of visual materials,
to relate ideas.

Applications of engineering drawings

They are used in any setting which involves design and in subsequent forms of conversion
process

They are most commonly applied in manufacturing engineering and construction.

Surveyors, civil engineers and sanitarians use technical drawings to document their work eg
layout of new divisions or the making of boundaries for piece of property

Contractors and construction personnel use drawings as their blue prints in converting
architectural and engineering drawings into reality.

Types of engineering drawings

1. Artistic drawings;

These are complex drawings ranging from simplest line to most famous paintings used to
express feelings, beliefs, philosophies and ideas of the artist and to understand them, one needs
to first understand the artist.

Artists normally take subtle or abstract approach within their communication drawings which in
turn gives rise to various interpretations.
2. Technical Drawings

The technical drawing, on the other hand, is not subtle, or abstract. It does not require an
understanding of its creator, only an understanding of technical drawings.

A technical drawing is a means of clearly and concisely communicating all of the information
necessary to transform an idea or a concept in to reality. Therefore, a technical drawing often
contains more than just a graphic representation of its subject. It also contains dimensions, notes
and specifications.

Types of Technical Drawings

Technical drawings are based on the fundamental principles of projections. A projection is a

drawing or representation of an entity on an imaginary plane or planes. This projection planes
serves the same purpose in technical drawing as is served by the movie screen.

A projection involves four components

1. The actual object that the drawing or projection represents 5

2. The eye of the viewer looking at the object

3. The imaginary projection plane

4. Imaginary lines of sight called Projectors

The two broad types of projections, both with several subclassifications, are parallel projection
and perspective projection.

Parallel Projection

Parallel Projection is a type of projection where the line of sight or projectors are parallel and are
perpendicular to the picture planes. It is subdivided in to the following three categories:
Orthographic, Oblique and Axonometric Projections.
o Orthographic projections: are drawn as multi view drawings, which show flat
representations of principal views of the subject.

o Oblique Projections: actually show the full size of one view.

o Axonometric Projections: are three-dimensional drawings, and are of three different

varieties:
1) Isometric,
2) Dimetric
3) Trimetric.
Perspective Projection

Perspective projections are drawings which attempt to replicate what the human eye actually sees
when it views an object. There are three types of perspective projections: One point, Two-point
and Three-point Projections.

TERMS USED IN ENGINEERING DRAWINGS

Plan

Plan is a set of drawing or two dimensional diagrams used to communicate building or

fabrication instructions.

It is drawn by assuming the structure to be cut at 1.5m above ground level.

Length and width of rooms are all shown on the plan and even the plinth projection is also
included.

The parts of the structure above the cutting plane are presented by dotted line.

Elevation.

Shows width and height of the structure.

Front and side views are drawn to show frontal and side views of the structure within an
elevation.

The shapes of windows, doors, verandahs ,openings, sunshades and parapets are shown in there
true look.

Section.

Here the structure is supposed to be cut by vertical plane and the cut section is drawn which is
termed as a section, it shows the height of rooms, depth of foundation, types of roofs ,
floors ,thickness of walls and plinth height etc.

Section also show types of materials used in construction.

Reference

A flat surface that is typically used for drawing 2D sketches in 3D space.

Coordinate system

Is a set of planes and axes used to assign coordinates to features, parts and assemblies.
