The document provides instruction for a geometry lesson focusing on 2D and 3D shapes. Over 4 days, students will review shapes, play identification games, use positional language to describe shapes, and create an original product showing their understanding of shapes and positions. The lesson aims to help students recognize different types of shapes and their attributes and use movement to explore shapes and positions.

Todays Standard:

Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders,
and spheres).

MGSEK.G.1 Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative
positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.

Welcome to Geometry!
Day 1
Hello class! I want everyone to be excited about our geometry topic
this week because it is one of my favorites and we can get very
creative with it. This week I will give everyone the opportunity to
review all the different types of shapes we have discussed in the
classroom with examples, graphic organizers, games, and videos.
You will even have a chance to create your own activity at the end of
the week to see how much you have mastered your knowledge about
shapes!
Objective
I can recognize different types of shapes and their attributes.

Before we start, answer the following questions.

How are you feeling today?

Happy
Frustrated
Sad

What is your favorite shape?

Day 2
Game Day
Objective
I can recognize, determine, and compare shapes through various
objects.

IT’S GAME DAY!

I know everyone in class loves online gaming.
Game 1: Click here to play the Three Dimensional Figures
Game on SplashLearn.

As you play, you will be able to earn coins for correct answers!

Game 2: Click here to help Peg + Cat solve their problems

around town with your knowledge about shapes.

Take these quizzes to test what you know and for extra practice.

Remember: It is just practice. You can take the quizzes as many
times as you want.

Day 3
Learning Positions
Objective
I can use movement to explore shapes and recognize the
positions of above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and
next to.

Now that we have tested what we know about shapes, we can

describe objects using movement and positions.

We use something called prepositions to describe positions.

Day 4
Creation Day
Objective
Create an original product to show your understanding of shapes and
recognizing positions.
What’s a math teacher’s favorite kind of tree? Geometry.

Choice 1: Using your shape blocks provided in your math kit,

arrange shapes on a flat surface. Take a picture of your arrangement
or draw a picture of it. Write three mathematical statements using the
prepositions that describe your arrangement.

Example: The square is above the circle.

Choice 2: This takes two people!

Using the chart below, pick a number as your starting position. Use
directions (above, below, next to) to move around the board. Write
three directions to find your ending position. When you are done
describe the object and the shape.

Example: Move one spot to the right. Move two spots below.
1 4 7

2 5 8

3 6 9
