READING

1 Read the text and check () A, B, or C.

Hi Rosie,

Thanks for your email. Here’s more news from us in Montreal. It’s snowing here, and the
view from the window is beautiful. Of course, it’s very cold, but that’s normal for winter in
Canada. What’s the weather like in Florida?

James is working in Toronto right now but just for one week. He usually works in an office
here in Montreal. His new job is great, and he’s really happy. I am still looking for work, but
I’m happy too. I take the dog for a walk, do some housework or go shopping, and I send a lot
of emails! I’m going to an Italian cooking class on Tuesdays, and I can cook a lot of different
pasta dishes now. I’m also free to help Jessica with all her school work.

Montreal East High School is really different from Jessica’s school in Florida, and she has a
lot of homework every day. She’s happy because she can walk to school here – it’s near our
house – and she sometimes comes home for lunch. She is on the basketball team and
knows a lot of girls from playing sports.

Harrison is eighteen now. He’s studying business in college, and he’s also taking a French
class twice a week in the evenings. He can speak it pretty well now, and that’s good because
a lot of people speak French here, and some of his college classes are in French. He studies
hard, and I think he feels pretty stressed sometimes. He still lives at home, but he’s thinking
about moving into an apartment with some friends this summer.

I’d love to see you, so yes, let’s plan your visit in May. My Canadian friends say that the
weather is usually sunny and warm here in spring. We can do a walking tour of Old Montreal
or go to the Botanical Gardens. How long can you stay?

Write back soon!

Charlotte

Example: It’s sunny and hot.
