Process
Skills:
OBSERVING
Learning Competency
Demonstrate skills in
observing a given
event and/or object.
OBSERVING
• It involves the use of the senses
to gather information about an
object or event.
• It is a description of what was
perceived.
Process of Observing
Qualitative
Observations
Observations are made
that involve the use of
your senses (sight,
smell, touch, and
hearing) to yield results.
Process of Observing
Quantitative
Observations
• Observations made
using measuring
instruments such as
rulers, balances,
graduated cylinders,
beakers, and
thermometers.
Process of Observing
Quantitative
Observations
• Objective collection of
data which primarily
focused on numbers
and values – “ it
suggests” associated
to, or depicted in
terms of quantity.
Process of Observing
Change
Observations
• Observations that
could be the result of
crushing, pounding,
burning, cutting,
decaying, and more.
Observe and Gather More!
Objectives:
After performing this activity, learners
will be able to :
a. Identify the three processes of observing.
b. List down some examples of different
processes of observing based on the
activity.
c. Demonstrate the skills of observing given
the object.
Observe and Gather More!
Materials
• candle / match
• pen and paper
• ruler
• timer
Observe and Gather More!
Procedure
1. For safety precautions, prepared fire
extinguisher (or water) before starting the
activity.
2. Set your candle in a wide space.
3. Lighten your candle for 3 minutes.
4. After blowing out your candle. Write at
least 5 observations on the table provided.

Guide Questions
1. Does the candle activity help you
differentiate the different
processes of observing?
2. Based on your own opinion, can you
give your own definition of
observation?
3. What are the different processes of
observing?
