OBJECTIVES

1. Provide GUIDELINE for contractors/agents/end-users regarding OLTC


maintenance preparation (auxilliary equipment)
2. To make sure contractors/ agents / end-users have a minimum
equipment for OLTC maintenance according to MR standard service
procedure
3. To make sure both MR and contractors / agents / end-users carry out
the OLTC maintenance without any interruption and delays and meet
the minimum requirement during the service job.

MR MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Crane or lifting device including operator for lifting the diverter switch insert

MR MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

New mineral insulating oil in accordance with IEC 60296 minimum 600 L
including for cleaning of OLTC

The on-load tap-changer is ready for service if the


average value of mineral oil is ≥ 50 kV / 2.5mm at a
temperature of 20 °C ± 5 °C

MR MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Oil pump with hoses and connections for oil change (draining and refilling)
* Common tools for pipes and oil handling work must be included

Suitable work table for maintenance of the diverter switch insert

MR diverter switch weight


ranging between 80KG – 150
KG. Proper table for service

Brushes, absorbent, scotch brite and non-fuzzing rags for cleaning

Empty containers, buckets or tray for cleaning of OLTC parts

MR MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Ladder, suitable for climbing the transformer


Wherever possible a leaning ladder which extends at least
1m above the point of contact to allow the user to hold on when
climbing over

ADDITIONAL PREPARATION (OPTIONAL)

 Plastic foil to catch dripping oil

 Voltage supply

 Work surface - ideally a workshop - with sufficient light

 Suitable means of transportation to transport the diverter switch insert to


the workshop if necessary.

ADDITIONAL PREPARATION (FOR INDOOR TYPE
TRANSFORMER)

 Proper staging or scaffolding for climbing up the transformer or where is


necessary
 Overhead crane or lifting lugs on top of OLTC to install chain block for
lifting diverter switch
 If overhead lifting device not available, proper and stronghold scaffolding
need to be erected for lifting diverter switch during the service

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Measures for working safety and environmental protection:

Deenergizing and proper (visible) grounding of the transformer (HV and


LV side) including all further necessary safety measures for working on
electrical equipment
Avoiding personal injury by erection of scaffolding, properly fixing the
ladder, wearing safety shoes, etc.
Taking necessary preventive measures to avoid pollution of the ground
water by spilling transformer oil
(sufficient containers for cleaning the diverter switch and filling in the old
oil, etc.)

WARNING: The user of the plant should perform the following safety measure.
The transformer must be switched off, isolated and secured against reclosing. All
terminals must be grounded visibly (by means of ground cables or ground switches).
The working area should be marked clearly.
MR personnel will only start the inspection after all these safety precautions have been
carried out.
