B.Sc. (Honours) in Meteorology
Students who majoring in physics when passed second year with GPA 4 or GPA greater than
4 are eligible to attend B.Sc. (Honours) class specialized in meteorology for three more years.
After finished successfully, they earn B.Sc. (Hons) degree specializing in meteorology.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Met 3201: AC Circuits
The module covers Sinusoidal steady state response of circuits, and Thevenin and Norton
theorems.
Met 3202: Electronics

The module deals with Diode applications, Special-Purpose Diodes, Bipolar Junction
Transistors (BJTs), Transistors Bias Circuits, and BJT Amplifiers.

Met 3203: Physical Meteorology

This module is concerned with Composition of Atmosphere, Statistics and


Thermodynamics of the Atmosphere, Cloud Physics, Research and Methodology.

Met 3204: Physical Meteorology

The module includes Phenomena of Radiation in the Atmosphere, Optical


Phenomena, First Law of Thermodynamics, Precipitation from water Cloud,
Research and Methodology.

Met 3205: Synoptic Meteorology

The module focuses on World Weather Network, Weather and Climate, Synoptic
Weather Analysis, Air Masses Frontal Disturbances, Surface and Upper Air Analysis,
Laboratory Exercises, Research and Methodology.

Met 3206: Synoptic Meteorology

The module covers Monsoon and Tropical Disturbance, General Circulation of the
Atmosphere, Temperature and Pressure Analysis, Weather Forecasting, Laboratory

Met 3207: Dynamic Meteorology

This module familiarises students with Basic Equations, Atmospheric motion, Scale
Analysis, Fundamental Forces (Pressure Gradient Force, Gravitational Force),
Apparent Forces (Centrifugal Force, Gravity Force, Coriolis Force), Research and
Methodology.

Met 3208: Dynamic Meteorology

The module enables students to be familiar with Equation of motion, Balance Motion,
Basic Conservation Law, Stationary Coordinate (Natural Coordinate), Rotating
Coordinate, Research and Methodology.

Met 3209: Electromagnetic Wave Theory

The module covers The static magnetic field of ferromagnetic materials:


Magnetic dipoles and magnetization, Uniformly magnetized rod and equivalent air
filled solenoid, The magnetic vectors B, H and M, Boundary relations, Tables of
boundary relations for magnetic fields, Ferromagnetism, Magnetization curves, and
Hysteresis. It includes Laplace’s and Poisson’s equations and boundary value
problems: Solutions of Laplace’s equations in rectangular coordinates, The parallel
plate capacitors, Point by Point or interactive method, Solutions of Laplace’s
equations in cylindrical and spherical coordinates, Poisson’s equation, Time-
changing Electric and Magnetic Fields. It is also concerned with The relation
between field and circuit theory: Maxwell’s Equations.

Met 3210: Electromagnetic Wave Theory

This module focuses on Plane waves in dielectric and conducting media: Plane
waves and the wave equations, Solutions of the wave equations, Tables of solutions
of wave equations, Phase velocity, Index of refraction, Group velocity, Impedance of
dielectric media, The impedance of transmission line cell, Two plane waves traveling
in opposite directions, Standing waves, Energy relation in a traveling waves, The
Poynting vector, Energy relations in a standing wave, Conductors and dielectrics,
Wave equations for conducting media, an Depth of penetration. It also includes
Relaxation time, Impedance of conducting media, The Poynting vector in a
conducting media, Circuit application of the Poynting vector, and General
development of the wave equations problems.

Met 4201: Electronics

The module deals with Field–Effect Transistors; FET Amplifiers, Power Amplifiers,
Amplifier Frequency Response, Operational Amplifiers: Introduction to Operational
Amplifier, Op-Amp Input Modes and Parameters.

Met 4202: Electronics

The module familiarizes students with Number Systems, Operations and codes,
Logic Gates, Boolean Algebra and Logic Simplification, Combinational Logic.

Met 4203: Physical Meteorology

The module is concerned with Radiation, Water substances in the atmosphere,


Cloud physics, Atmospheric Electricity, Research and Methodology.

The module deals with Nature of solar Radiation, Water substances in the
atmosphere, Cloud physics, Atmospheric Electricity, Thermodynamics of Dry air,

The module is concerned with Synoptic data, Pressure and Wind Fields, Air Masses
Fronts, Jet Streams, Synoptic systems, Development of Cyclones and Anticyclones,

The module covers Synoptic Climatology, Tropical Meteorology Synoptic Weather

The module focuses on Equations of Motion of all Momentum Equation, Continuity

Met 4209: Applied Meteorology

This module covers Introduction to Numerical Weather Prediction, Numerical
