Comparison of propofol and ketamine combination (ketafol) and propofol and fentanyl
combination (fenofol) on effect of sedation and analgesia in the colonoscopy: A randomized

clinical trial, at alajah national university hospital .

The title is clear ambiguous involving the PICO criteria

P: colonoscopy patient.

I: fenofol and ketofol

C: comparison between fenofol and ketofol

O: analgesia effects

The researcher conducts experiment with intervention to determine the effect of combination of
propofol and ketamine and the effect of fentanyl and propofol (sedation effect) for patient
undergoing colonoscopy at al-najah university hospital.

Back ground critique:

The researcher write about the relationship of many variables in colonoscopy procedure using
anesthetic drugs combination and comparison between of them on analgesia effect .the flow of
knowledge was conducted in a good way to the readers. The variables were included in the back
ground and the introduction. The researcher wrote down that the combination of propofol and
ketamine has synergetic effect when its used during the colonoscopy procedure ,the researcher
provided us good information about the relationship between the variables. Most of the
information are cited well and written down in the background .

Problem statement critique:

The problem statement convinced clearly and having a ability to persuade because the study is a
great understanding of factors which are very important for improving the quality and morbidity
for patients who are going to do colonoscopy . This Statement of problem does build a cogent
and persuasive argument for the new study as the consideration of giving sedatives during
colonoscopy procedures and the combination of tow sedatives has significant synergetic effect
on pain reduction.

The researcher guided us to importance of giving sedative drugs to such a patients who are going
to do colonoscopy procedures, and this topic has no significant information in previous
studies ,the researcher tells us in her problem statement the population are patient to do
colonoscopy , the intervention included sedative drugs ,and the comparison for between tow
combination of sedatives ketafol and fenofol drugs , the outcome is not clear enough in her
problem statement, So it is very important to study those aspects and find out the drawbacks and
rectified them so the residents feel safer, secure and live their life happily in nursing home. The
match between the research problem and the quantitative design and tradition used in the study is
good. The researcher used the true experimental (interventional) method in order to explain the
analgesia effect by giving tow combination of sedative drugs during the procedure.

PICO IS MENTION IN HER PROBLEM STATEMENT EXCEPT THE OUT COME IS NOT
CLEAR.

Goals critique:

The researcher tells us kind of specific aims but the aims is not enough to be measured ,this
study should include more aims , the firs aims which she has mentioned about “ better pain
management and patients comfort after abdominal surgery” is not related to this study.

Research question: what effect of sedation and analgesia dose efficacy of ketofol versus fenofol
for colonoscopy patient?

The researcher has asked a reliable question its should generate and assessing evidence for
sedation dose has synergetic effect for analgesia for colonoscopy patient .

Frame work:

Conceptual frame work

The researcher provided a conceptual definition of the key concept of potentiation aspects of
analgesia effect caused by sedative drugs on such patients who underwent colonoscopy
procedure , This helps the reader to understand what relationship of sedative drugs on analgesia
effect by mixing tow drugs together ,. The researcher did not stated philosophical basis of this
study in introduction. The author did not make any conceptual framework for this study, he just
compare and contrast the content on one research theory to compare the content of the study.

The figure of the researcher was is not clear enough by connecting the variable’s together

Literature review :

The research adequately summarized that had been conducted on the relationship of the
sedative drugs on analgesia effect , but The author clearly stated the gaps in the
knowledge, in previous study it was identified that to provide dose dependent of sedatives
on analgesia during the procedure instead of using pure pain killer or pure opioids , to
minimize the risks and decrease morbidity , the researcher did not stated logical view of
this study in literature review ,The researcher did not make clear conceptual framework
for this study, she just compare and contrast the content on one research question to
compare the content of the study.

Methods

 Research design : this is quantitative design ,the researcher used randomized double blind
trial which is a good design .
 Setting : at al-najah university hospital .
 Method : randomized double blind .
 Sample : patients who transefered to colonoscopy aged between 15-70 years old .
 Sample size : 300 patients
 Sampling : it’s not mentioned .
 Data collection method : all patients under inclusion criteria .
 Data collection tool :protocol but it’s not mentioned by the researcher .
 Data collection method : is not mentioned by the researcher .
 Reference’s was written rightly, there’s enough reference to her study
 There’s nothing written in her study .

CONCLUSION

The study provides the intervention of mixing sedative drugs compared between fenofol
and ketafol on analgesia effect in colonoscopy, overll,this was good quantitative design to
explore the the sedatives on analgesia effect ( synergetic effect ) , to fulfill the patent
needs during colonoscopy ,however study sample was taken enough 300 pateint reffered
to alnajah hospital and used double blind clinical trail .
