OBJECTIVES:

1. To achieve global competence in the various fields of engineering;

2. To continually revise and upgrade the curricula in keeping abreast with worldwide
technological developments;

3. To provide for the development of the faculty and staff to handle better all the
demands associated with the academic programs;

4. To provide new academic programs with options to respond to the needs of the
industry, government, community and environment;

5. To upgrade the laboratories and expand physical resources to permit


increased access to appropriate engineering hardware and create
opportunities for “hands-on” experiential learning;

6. To develop a sense of commitment for service to the community through applied


research, extension, consultancies, seminars and workshops;

7. To develop Christian values in students;

8. To provide opportunities for leadership training to students through co-curricular


activities in preparation for their jobs; and

9. To identify source of funds for financial assistance to deserving students through


scholarships.

Course Code: GE 10A

Course Title: WHOLE PERSON EDUCATION

Course Credit: 3 units

Prerequisite: None

Course Description: This GE will integrate and unify our institutional graduate outcomes (IGO) where a good Silliman graduate is a: creative critical thinker,
transformative Christian witness, effective communicator, and an independent, reflective life-long learner. Visible outcomes and operational indicators of our 5 C’s
(Church, Classroom, Courts, Culture, Community), FIRE (Faith, Instruction, Research, Extension), Service Learning, Institutional Heritage, Code of Christian Collegiality,
Volunteerism, Wellness, among others, will be delivered and effected as the university’s whole person education is infused into the OBE system. This will also
complement and enhance the graduate attributes of the different disciplines and programs.

Course Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students are expected to have:

1. Develop as a graduate with a defined and authentic identity


2. Understand the role of the mind, body, and spirit in the holistic human experience
3. Achieve new capacities and perspectives
4. Develop a sense of responsibility and compassion towards others
5. Acquire a diverse skills set for better personal and professional prospects
6. An ability to understand professional and ethical responsibility

Course Requirements:

1. Lectures / presentations. Students are to participate in lectures and class presentations.


2. Students should pass all examinations.
3. Students are expected to attend the class on time and all the time.
4. Requirements/work to do must be submitted and done on time.

EVALUATION

Evaluation will be based on regular exams, assignments, midterm exam, and final exam or its equivalent, presentations, creative outputs/projects and
reflections. Class interactions and participation are also included. Experiential learning though our 5C’s kind of education and site visits (when possible) that
will facilitate an in-depth understanding and awareness of our institutional heritage will be part of the learning experience.

LEARNING PLAN

- The course will be delivered mostly online, with some face-to-face modalities.
- Reading assignments can be done asynchronously.
- Outputs, depending on its nature, may be online or face-to-face.
- Group discussions and group activities will be face-to-face.

Grade cut-off → 60% equivalent to 2.0

CLASS POLICIES:

1. Attendance will be checked during required meetings.

2. A student who gets a grade below the cut-off needs to retake the subject.

3. Students must have a working video and audio device for online sessions.

4. Each student is expected to participate in class. The effectiveness of learning is a responsibility of both the teacher and the student.

5. Appropriate and good behavior is expected at all times, face-to-face or online. Respect for one another must be observed.

6. Deadlines must be met accordingly.

7. No make-up exam or activity will be given except for excused absences. A medical certificate will be required for absences due to sickness.
