Episode 1 The Teacher We Remember

Analyze
1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos
that you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
The following skills are possessed by a great teacher: knowledge and comprehension of the
subject matter. They also incorporate the local community into their lesson, which instills in the
pupils a sense of the interconnectedness of everything and the importance of real-world learning.
They also help students study in a way that allows them to share best practices and cultivate a
passion of learning that lasts a lifetime. Additionally, they have traits that make a successful
teacher, like a willingness to listen to kids, communication skills, collaboration abilities, the ability
to adopt, and patience. Additionally, they have qualities that make for good teaching, such as an
engaging classroom presence, that help them become better teachers every day.

2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

Yes ! Is there a reason for this, was the abilities, knowledge, and traits that professional
associations and/or organizations expressly appreciate are known as professional competences.
Or to put it another way, it would not be appropriate for non-professionals to utilize. We must keep
in mind how these skills will affect our future profession.

3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a

lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades?
Explain your answer.
I think it is adequate to be able to supervise a class, organize and carry out lessons, evaluate
student learning, compute grades, and report them. They will be better able to do their duties if

3|Page
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

they possess professional competencies. In addition to imparting knowledge in the classroom, a

great teacher will be able to inspire and motivate students to go beyond what is taught there. I
firmly believe that excellent instructors possess subject-matter expertise and are able to interact
with learners in a polished and competent manner. Therefore, in my opinion, having the necessary
professional competences is more than enough to make someone an excellent teacher.

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important, personal qualities or professional

competencies?
Both professional and personal traits are crucial for a teacher, and I believe that without either of
them, a teacher would be lacking. Teachers must possess certain personal traits, such as effective
communication abilities, in order to comprehend the needs of their students. Professional
characteristics or abilities are also necessary since they enable you to understand the core
teaching strategies, tricks, and practical experience needed to cope with a variety of students. A
teacher who possesses these two traits also has an advantage because they will help them
become an excellent instructor. Indeed, teachers is a whole package if they have the two
characteristics.

5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

I believe that the teachers we remember the most are the ones who are kind to us. A mentor who
made an imprint on lives especially my science teacher way back on elementary days. Moreover,
the teacher who can establish a good rapport with us. A teacher who is patient enough to explain
things or concepts. And lastly a teacher, who is committed to instructing and motivating us to
study.

1. OBSERVE In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as the
ability to listen well to the needs of her students and professional competencies like assessment
and scaffolding were least not displayed and as a result, students were / class was experiencing
such difficulties.

2. REFLECT The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies (mentioned in #1)
maybe caused by dearth of knowledge the teacher may not have explored much when it comes
to knowing the various personal traits and professional competencies a teacher must possess.

3. PLAN I would like to address the problem (mentioned in # 2) by conducting an action research
on the coping mechanism and challenges of high school students particularly grade 7 student.

4. ACT
a.) The main objective of my action research is to identify the complexities and coping
mechanisms in high school students, particularly grade 7student.

b.) My specific research questions are: What is the age, gender, and monthly household income of
the students? What difficulties do individuals encounter while they learn their subject? What coping
mechanisms does the respondent employ to aid in their subject learning?

c.) To answer my specific research questions, I will use the descriptive method to answer my
specific research questions because the main purpose of the study is to determine the
challenges and coping strategies of high school students, particularly grade7 student.

Personal characteristics as well as professional competencies
were imparted to me. Also, I discovered that applying
professional competency in teaching produces a more
encouraging environment for students and generates a broad
horizon of knowledge for them, making them feel safe in the
knowledge they obtain from the teacher. Another thing I learnt is
that as a professional teacher, you must seek out all your
students' requirements in order to provide or provide them the
necessary treatment for their challenges. I also learnt that as
future educators, we must prioritize what is best for our children
above all else because it is one of the most crucial components of
becoming a teacher. It also offers me an understanding of how
these two characteristics assist you strive toward your goals
while also working efficiently with your students. I understood
that to reach the standards of a great teacher, you must display
specific competencies. I also realized that having both
characteristics would help me become a better teacher in the
future. Another issue is that it would be perfect if I possessed
these two traits because they would be quite useful to me as we
will be practicing teaching very soon. Developing these abilities
or attributes through the course I'm now doing will be highly
valuable to me.

I understand how difficult it will be, but I am willing to put in the

effort to enhance these skills through the degree I am pursuing.
So, I will strive to develop all the competencies since each one
has opportunity for improvement, and I want to grow well in each

And lastly, I want to share my teacher I remember most, she is ma’am Evelyn Catayong
Adao my science teacher way back on my elementary years. She’s inspires me to become
a science teacher, she taught me a lot of learning both in the body of knowledge and in
life, and I become an apple to her eyes since that I’m one of her outstanding pupils in
her class. To make the story short, on my high school graduation I was surprised that
she was our guest speaker. From being my science teacher now she is a DEPEd
Personnel/Supervisor and a Phd.holder, she is now a Doctor of Education. One thing I
cannot missed when after the graduation ceremony right on the momentum we cross our
way she said, “Congratulation to one of my simple but terrible pupils, you can reach the
summit of your dreams” and I saw on her face the proudness of my achievement
(because I’m one who got Latin honor). Before we bid goodbye she said, “Lampasan mo
pa ako, you can do great”, words that I never forget, words full of “PAGTAPOD” and
those words one I always carry on my shoulder in strengthening myself against
tribulations.

Reflect
Based on the readings you made and the previous activities that you have done,
1. What significant ideas or concepts have you learned about action
research?
I learned that for the education of learners to be delivered or of higher quality,
action research is necessary. Action research enables us to think critically and apply new
knowledge right away in the classroom. Action research can help us identify problems. It
also aids in the formulation of a remedy to the identified issue. Action research might be
useful in situations where additional means is required.
2. Have you realized that there is a need to be an action researcher as a future
teacher? YES _____ NO _____. If yes, complete the sentence below.

9|Page
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

I realized that In the future, I would benefit by conducting action research. Action
research, in my perspective, will help me understand better the problems that may strike
us within the near future. Another advantage is that it will help me show up with a viable
solution to the underlying problem. Action research actually helped us to realize that such
problems are inevitable in any teaching and learning process. Indeed, action research

creates possibilities for innovative ideas.

Write Action Research Prompts

OBSERVE From what teaching principles of theories can this problem be anchored?
o I have observed and noticed that Action Research begins with a problem or a problematic
situation.
o Write an example of problematic situation that you have observed and noticed.

Since we are in this so-called "new normal," I have seen that students has low level of
participation during online classes when learning through distance learning. I can say that I am
one of those students. There may be more distractions than usual when students study from home
or another location, especially if family and possibly younger siblings are present. Even if you are
in a online class, your parents possibly command you to do chores or anything, which would forbid
you from fully engaging in an online class. In fact, students don't participate much in the virtual
class discussions, and the current environment makes it impossible to develop some necessary
skills.

REFLECT What have I realized? What do I hope to achieve?

I realized that for every teaching-learning problem, there is a solution. Write a probable solution to
the problematic situation above. We have an online learning environment, thus it is preferably
adding a virtual reality laboratory. Students can still participate in the learning process in this
manner, much like having video tutorials. Another benefit is that even if they lack actual
experience, they can still develop the necessary abilities. However, it is much better if students
can finish the assignment by themselves. Let's just go with the flow because the pandemic is
already underway and make the seemingly impossible happen.

PLAN What strategies, activities, innovations can I employ to improve the situation or solve the
problem?
 As a future action researcher, I can plan an appropriate intervention, such as searching
online for a free virtual reality testing facility. I think that by looking, I will be able to help
students participate and gain the required abilities. Additionally, I'll make sure that the
entire class has access to any free virtual reality labs I find so they may engage in some
hands-on activities. In addition, I will oversee their use of the virtual reality lab to make

10 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

sure students can acquire the skills needed for the topics. That is the strategy that, in my
opinion, will help them overcome their low participation issue.

ACT If I conduct or implement my plan, what can be its title?

 If will implement my doable plan in the future, my title would be incorporating a virtual
reality lab into science lessons to increase and improve science students' performance.

ABSTRACT
An action research study was designed to evaluate the
effectiveness of providing metacognitive support to
enhance Year 9 students’ metacognitive capabilities in
order to better understand science concepts related to
light, environmental health, ecosystems, genetics,
ecology, atoms and the Periodic Table. The study was
conducted over three years involving 35, 20 and 24
students in each year. The interventions included

Notice
What concepts have been emphasized in the task and infographics? Give at least four.
1. Understand what action research is and how it is used in the field of education.
2. Learn about the various models and how to conduct Action Research.
3. Know what an action research's key components are.
4. Distinguish about the various Action Research methodology.

Since the 3 models are all for action research, what are the common elements of the three?
They have the same characteristics, which is what they have in common. They also have a cycle
that includes elements like observing, reflecting, planning, acting, evaluating, and modifying.

11 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

The elements I mentioned above are a common way for action researchers to collect data. Action
research tests ideas as they are produced, providing real-time feedback on what works and how it
works.

Key Components
OBSERVE The Problem: Many constraints hinder science teaching activities in
Saudi Arabia and restrict students' innovative skills, such as the
limited duration of science courses, teachers' schedules, and many
students in the laboratory, which leads to their inability to follow
through on the experiment.

REFLECT Reflection: To improve scientific instruction in Saudi Arabian middle

schools, a virtual lab was designed as an alternative to science labs
in this study. The Virtual Science Lab (VSL) is a web-based system
in Arabic that allows students to conduct laboratory experiments in a
safe and interactive setting.

PLAN Plan of Action: The VSL was created with the primary purpose of
facilitating science instruction by moving the entire environment
from reality to virtual. This transformation comprises the
replacement of heavy equipment with graphical tools that are easier
and faster to maneuver due to drag and drop functionality.
Furthermore, the VSL requires technical help rather than a science
technician. Furthermore, the VSL uses technological equipment
such as computers, the internet, components, and specialized
software that is substantially less expensive than that used in HOLs.
The VSL is a web-based platform meant to introduce Saudi middle
school pupils to a safe and interactive lab environment. It
establishes a virtual learning environment in which students can
conduct experiments through the internet either individually or in
groups. It also aids science instruction by providing communication
and collaboration facilities for teachers and students, much like any
other e-learning system. It also allows teachers to create new
experiments to increase their students' knowledge and perform
laboratory assessments to track their students' development.

ACT Implementation: A pre-test was undertaken with five second-year

middle school students from various schools in Jeddah to assess
the efficiency of using the VSL and to compare it to HOLs. The

12 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

students were supervised by researchers while they used various

computers. Before commencing the computer test, students were
asked about their knowledge and understanding of the basic ideas
of several science experiments taught in HOLs. According to the
data, 60% of the students struggled to understand the primary
objectives of the supplied experiments, and only 40% did so well.
The students were then instructed to repeat the experiment using
the VSL on their own. A post-test was performed to assess their
experience with the virtual world while the experiment was being
carried out.

What have you understood about the concept of Action Research and how will these be utilized in
your practice? To improve educational practice, the action research process is applied. Its
methods include acting, analyzing it, and reflecting on it. It is a method of obtaining evidence to
change procedures. Action research plans are also created, implemented, revised, and
implemented again, providing for a never-ending cycle of reflection and adjustment. In addition, I
will use these in my practice teaching to put all these strategies into action.

Reflect
As a future teacher, is conducting an Action Research worth doing?
As a future educator, I can say unequivocally that conducting action research is worthwhile.
Why? In practical educational environments, action research creates knowledge around inquiry.
Action research enables educators to learn through their activities in order to grow personally or
professionally. The process of action research is distinct in educational research because of its
participatory nature.
How can AR be useful for every classroom teacher? Action research is beneficial to both students
and teachers. The various benefits of this phenomenon include professional development. Such a
development results from collaborative action work. Action research also improves the culture
adopted in the school.

Write Action Research Prompts

14 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

OBSERVE Remembering my classroom observation in FS 1, I noticed that there are many

questions that I raised in my mind. These include:
a. How can we foster group effort and collaboration during a discussion?
b. How can we encourage students to actively participate in the discussion?
c. How can we assist students in engaging in a hands-on activity?

REFLECT Thinking deeply about those problems, perhaps something must have been done
to solve the problem or answer the question, like:
a. By assigning them a task in which each member must contribute and collaborate with the
other members of their group.
b. By asking the students what their thoughts or opinions were on the topic.
c. By experimenting, learners can apply what they have learned in the lesson to master their
experimenting skills.
d.
PLAN Now that I am in FS 2, I plan to make a plan for my solution to problem (choose from a, b, c)
because some skills necessitate hands-on practice. We must remember how important it is to
master the necessary abilities. We cannot just assume that giving students the theory and
concepts will result in them learning the skills. Remember that most pupils learn best when they
can accomplish the task personally. John Dewey stated that "learners learn best through
experience."

ACT My action will come later, given enough time in FS 2 or during my Teaching Internship.

What five problems have you identified from the words that you have encircled? Make a
statement. Write in the space below.
The problems I identified are:
1. Comprehension. A lack of concentration when reading will result in poor
comprehension.
2. Bullying. Intimidation is still a prevalent for many students.
3. Motivation. A lack of motivation results in stagnancy.
4. Reading Difficulty. Many students struggle with reading especially grade 7.
5. Connectivity. Poor internet connectivity affect many students' academic futures.

MAKE A CHOICE FOR YOUR ACTION.

I choose B. Show video lessons to help enhance reading skills.
The Video was upload in instructor messenger.

Can you also choose letter B. Show video lesson as a SOLUTION for the same PROBLEM? Yes
Explain: I suppose that choosing B, which is to present video lessons as a solution to the same
problem, can also assist learners in improving their reading skills. A video lesson is also an

18 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

effective strategic intervention tool for teaching accurate pronunciation to a student; they can read
it while hearing how to pronounce the words.
What about letter C as a SOLUTION to the same PROBLEM? Why?
The creation of learning tasks, which I think to be the best option, can enhance reading abilities in
a way that makes it practical for teachers to use. Teachers may also keep a close watch on their
learners' academic development, figure out which words are the most challenging for them to read,
and create the most effective strategic intervention materials.

Notice What have you noticed of the problem identified above?

Students frequently struggle with reading particularly in the school we observe. The
pandemic we are experiencing is one hindering students' ability to learn to read and comprehend
what he/she read,
Can there be more than one solution to the problem? Yes Explain: The aforementioned issue has
several solutions because depending on just one would not be sufficient to address it. Keep in
mind that every issue we face has a variety of solutions. We only need to investigate it and get
these answers to come up with different solutions for the same issue, we need to be resourceful,
adaptable, and creative. It should always include backup plans for solving issues since, for
instance, a treatment might be effective in one class but not in another.

Reflect
After reading the two scenarios given above ( FS 2 Book, page 33), how would
identifying problematic situations, and finding solution to these problems help you
become a better teacher? Explain:

Being vigilant as a future teacher to spot troubling circumstances is crucial. In a way that
by allowing oneself to focus on the specifics that take place in our environment. By enhancing
ones’ capacity to look and observe attentively, recognizing problematic circumstances in the
classroom and getting-up with feasible solutions would help eventually become a better educator.

Write Action Research Prompts

Using any one example of problems in this activity, answer the AR prompts that follow:
OBSERVE What problematic situation prevails in the classroom? Connectivity, involvement, home
life, and social standing are all potential trouble spots in the classroom that could affect how well
both teachers and students are teaching and learning. According to scenario two, Sir Ryan's
students also hailed from a low-income metropolitan area, with the bulk of them coming from
disorganized homes. There is a chance that they are not paying attention to every lesson that
teacher Ryan is teaching, that there are more students dropping out, that there are more students
absent, and that they are uninterested in the lessons.

REFLECT What changes do you want to achieve? I want to start by giving them a purposeful
teaching-learning experience while also interacting with them mentally and socially. In addition, I
want them to take part in all activities and understand that there is help and hope out there for
them. I want them to know and believe that I will do the best I can to help them grow in learning
and cooperate better and have a more fulfilling educational experience. Ultimately, I want people
to adopt a different perspective and have confidence in their capacity to change for the better, for
themselves.

PLAN
What strategies will you use to improve the situation? To improve the current situation, I plan to
visit them at their home on a regular basis in order to get to know them personally and establish a
positive rapport with their parents. I will schedule a meeting with the parents and form a group
called the "Parents-Teacher Association." As a teacher, I will be adaptable and sensitive. Both
parents and students should be able to express their concerns. To gain their trust, I will position
myself as a role model because I believe that cultivating a positive attitude in the classroom begins
with me. And I will reinforce and reward positive behaviors because praising students for their
positive behavior is a simple yet powerful way to motivate them to do their best. These strategies
will assist students in meeting all of their needs and bringing them to the classroom. I know it's
difficult, but if the teacher and parents are working toward the same goal and heading in the same
direction, it will all be worthwhile in the end.

ACT
What would be the title of your Action Research should you conduct the study?
"Strategic Intervention and Effectiveness Towards Social Status of Grade 10 Students in General

it will be beneficial to parents and students alike. I will get permission to perform this study from

When it comes to face-to-face learning, the following are probable problems; There is no such
thing as flexible learning, Travel time from home to school, inadequate learning resources,
allowances for expenses, peer destruction and these are the most likely issues that will arise in the
two learning situations.
REFLECT
What solutions can I think of to solve the problem?
I must interact with the students as a teacher by going to their houses and asking them how they
are and how I can help them. and must be equipped with both a plan A and a plan B to
accommodate all the students' academic requirements and interests. I also need to talk to the
parents to find out what their circumstances are right now. I need to develop a mindful mindset and
be innovative. The future of the students is in my hands, so I must be flexible in all I do.
PLAN
How should I do it?
To fulfill the assignment and support the children in their needs, I must apply my effort and
willingness. The teacher is critical in overcoming these challenges. And the precise activities that I
can take are as follows: first, I must seek the principal's assistance and advice before taking the
necessary action. Second, I'll talk to the parents about their current position. Third, I intend to seek
the intervention and assistance of local leaders. Fourth, as a teacher, I shall develop all
educational materials. To accommodate all of them, I shall adapt all my teaching abilities based on
their demands and circumstances. These solutions are designed to be used in a two-learning

Learning
Environment”

FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

Learning happens not only in the classroom but also in other

places and contexts throughout life. However, most life's lessons are
learned inside those four walls. This is especially important while laying
the groundwork for children's future learning. To encourage young
children to enjoy learning new things, it is crucial to provide a favorable
learning atmosphere. Due to how much time students spend there each
day, schools are regarded as their second homes. Beyond having the
appropriate school supplies and furniture, a conducive learning
environment is made up of several significant components. When
combined, these elements ought to create an environment where students
feel free to discuss various ideas with their peers and teachers while also
feeling at ease researching their own interests and those of various topics.
Having a comfortable physical space where children can sit comfortably,
see and understand what their teacher is saying, as well as socialize with
their fellow classmates is one of the major components of a conducive
learning environment. Every child is different. Student A might easily
grasp the lesson just by looking at the board and listening to what the
teacher says. Student B, on the other hand, would prefer having visual
aids to understand the content of the lesson properly. Then, Student C is
the type who gets the lessons when an actual experience is involved. The
point is, the pace and manner of learning of each child are different.
It is a responsibility as a teacher to create a setting that promotes
pupils to learn according to their own pace, learning style, and despite
differences. Establishing norms and guidelines in the classroom can assist
in guiding children toward joining a group. In support of the second
argument, it's important to create a learning atmosphere where kids feel
like they are a part of a community, no matter how different they are from
one another. Children can comprehend early on that people come from
different families, have different values, views, and religions, and that
each person is unique.
This uniqueness is something that has to be accepted, respected,
and even celebrated. A student who feels confident in himself despite
being different from others is one who belongs to an effective learning
community. All these three components can help foster a conducive
learning environment that celebrates the uniqueness of every student. As a

a space that encourages every
student not only to learn but have fun while respecting everyone around

Participate and Assist

Given the concepts and the infographic, can you participate and assist in a face-to-face
learning environment?
As a future teacher, I may participate in and contribute to a face-to-face learning environment by
creating a welcoming, comfortable, and conducive classroom where students feel free to

participate in class and ask questions. Students are encouraged to connect with one another,
express their opinions, and give comments on material or lessons. To improve the quality of their
task output, I will also let students work both independently and in groups to build their social,
creative, and analytical thinking abilities. Moreover, I think I will be able to use a range of teaching
techniques that will greatly benefit and aid in a face-to-face learning setting because we are using
this new curriculum. I think I can use technology to make my classes more interesting for my
students and to inspire them to consider and discuss what they have learned.

What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning environment now?
I think that the use of technology in the classroom, which creates productive learning
environments, is causing changes in the face-to-face learning environment. There are locations
that must be reserved, among other things, and it affects how chairs and tables are set up.
From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How will you do it?
The overall design of the classroom is where I think I can make the biggest improvements, and I

REFLECT How would I solve the problem? By establishing and enforcing the classroom
management, rules and policies that students need to achieve a good and relaxing classroom
environment.

Describe the physical environment: The physical
environment refers to the overall design and

layout of a given classroom and its learning centers. Teachers should

organize the space, furnishings, and materials in the classroom to maximize
learning opportunities and engagement for all students. To do so effectively,
teachers can use the Universal Design for Learning concept, which emphasizes
that the environment and the materials contained within it should be accessible to
all. Making this accessibility possible may entail providing books at various
reading levels, placing materials on a shelf within easy reach, or providing
enough space for a wheelchair-using child to move around the classroom.
Describe the psychological environment : The psychological environment is
without a doubt the most difficult and one-sided in nature. Teachers express their attitudes,
excitement, values, and principles within the psychological environment. When they begin
their educational journey, most students expect to be encouraged and assisted in their learning.
The psychological environment in the classroom promotes the exchange of ideas, opinions,
and attitudes, as well as the asking of questions and the investigation of concerns.
Describe the social environment: The term social environment refers to how a classroom's
environment influences or supports interactions
between young children, teachers, and family
members. A well-designed social environment
encourages positive interactions between
adults and children and allows adults to help
children achieve their social goals. Teachers
must plan activities that take the following
factors into account in order to create a classroom environment that promotes positive social
interactions.

Episode 7 Making On-line or Virtual Learning Environment

Safe and Conducive

Notice
Unlike the traditional face-to-face classroom, online or virtual environment is a bit difficult to
manage. It is because Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is imaginary and not in the physical
sense. It has no corners or walls and it can be set up with the support of technology.
As a teacher, what have you discovered to be easy to implement in your virtual class?
I realized as an observer in an online class it was challenging to handle, but we must find a way.
Even though everything is done online, the first thing I'll do is set up rules and controls. My
students' participation will be logged, and I will use synchronize and offbeat to ensure that they

32 | P a g e

have adequate time to complete their tasks. It would be wonderful for three times its current price,
according to the thinking.
How did the students show their active participation in the lesson?
Students shows active involvement in the lesson by arriving on time for an online virtual class and
always participating in the class by raising their hands or clicking the raise hand icon. They also
pay close attention, ask penetrating questions, and actively participate in all activities, but this is
not always the case.

Analyze
Which of the following is/are your analysis/analyses of on-line learning environment?
Check one or more.
______It was difficult to observe the physical behavior of the students.
______It takes time for students to learn how to use the platform.
______Students who are alone in their home space find difficulty to make responses.

Reflect
As a future teacher I feel that on-line learning environment can be safe if the teacher
employs appropriate innovation. We knew it was critical to define online security for
students, so they know what to avoid and report when doing classwork online. This
understanding equips students with the knowledge and skills they will need to develop
secure online habits in the future. It also teaches students how to use the internet
responsibly and ethically, which can help them stay safe even when they are not
doing schoolwork. This is, in my opinion, instructive.
I think that teaching in a virtual learning environment will be interesting and exciting for me
because I will be able to present my lessons using a variety of software apps and online tools.
On the other hand, I believe virtual teaching is complicated because I only have a basic
understanding of how to use digital learning platforms. As a result, I'll have to go to webinars or
seminars to learn how to use those apps.

OBSERVE Identify the problems brought about by the on-line learning environments.
Social Isolation. Limited access to technology. Individuals who are computer illiterate are unable
to access the system.
REFLECT How would you solve this problem?
This issue could be addressed in the classroom by developing a strong innovation integration
approach. I was aware that there are factors beyond the teachers' control when applying learning
innovation. External difficulties must be dealt with at the organizational level, and the majority of
changes are ongoing. The term "access restriction" refers to issues caused by a lack of hardware
or a network. Implementing instructional innovation is only achievable if a teacher's school has
appropriate resources and a fast internet connection. The government must help our pupils cope
during this time of difficulty. I agree that no one, even in an emergency, should be denied an
education because children are our hope for a brighter future.
PLAN What initial plan do you intend to do to solve the problem?
The most crucial thing, according to experts, is to maintain in touch with teachers and keep them
informed of developments. They ought to be sympathetic and understanding of the circumstance,
even if it means taking backup course recordings. Encourage students to put in their best effort,
stay focused, and avoid anything that can impair their ability to study. There are different levels at
which you can interact and speak with you. Plan breaks and adhere to your learning schedule to
prevent missing live lectures or sessions. Furthermore, you might only require a fast internet
connection at home. Remember where you may turn to your company for help, as well as any
unique problems with software and equipment for engaging learning. Students should have access
to tools that can support their research.

Establishing My Own Classroom Routines and

Episode 8 Procedures in a Face-to-Face Remote Learning

Participate and Assist

To ensure that I can carry out perform my task efficiently and effectively in
participating and assisting my cooperating teacher in establishing routines and procedures
in the classroom or in remote learning, I must be guided by the following questions:
1. How will I gain student attention in the classroom /remote learning?
2. What are the routines and procedures that I need to establish before, during and after my
classes whether on a face-to-face or remote learning?
3. What verbal and non-verbal communication will I use to signal that students need help/attention
in the classroom / remote learning?
4. How must students get/secure the needed work materials and books and others in the
classroom / remote learning?
5. How will students transition to group work and other cooperative activities in the classroom /
remote learning?
6. What procedures must be followed by students who need to attend to personal necessities in
the classroom/online classes?
7. What rules must be set for students who finish task early/ and for those who cannot complete
work on time?
8. What procedures must be observed for tardiness / early dismissals?
9. What procedures must be done when submitting homework/ performance tasks in the
classroom / remote learning?
10. What procedures must be employed in movements into and out of the classroom/remote
learning?

Having these guide questions in mind, consult your Resource Teacher on the possible assistance
or participation that you can do to help her/him in doing the classroom routines. Complete the
matrix for the routines that you can employ before, during and after classes in the
classroom/remote learning to ensure order and discipline in your classes. List down the problems
which you have encountered while implementing these routines.

Our cooperating teacher gives us the chance to talk with her about any potential help or
participation we might provide to help her with the online class routines. She wants that we create
both the lesson plan and the PowerPoint presentation. We were able to help her lessen her load
as a result.
Problems encountered while implementing the routine:
1. Students are still arriving late for class, despite the agreed-upon time.
2. Poor internet connection and signal stability.

38 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

3. Problems of unwanted echo and background noises both from the teacher or from the student
reciting most often are distracting.
4. Short attention span was problem may not be technical; but a problem that remains universal. It
takes self-discipline to be attentive and focused in a regular classroom setting.

Notice
After doing your classroom routines and formulating your procedures, state what you
noticed by answering the following questions:

 How did you feel after employing your classroom routines and establishing your
procedures in the classroom / remote learning? Although some students are loud, the
class flow is fairly structured and smooth, which made me feel better. Students won't put
their microphones away because they are so absorbed and involved.

 How did your students respond to your classroom routines and procedures? Students in
an online class demonstrated positive behavior because they were attentive, active, and
involved in the routines and procedures.

 What was the feedback of your Resource Teacher on your classroom routines and
procedures? The feedback from my Resource Teacher on the classroom routines is to
improve and maintain more of the routines. Aside from that, she was pleased that I had
finished the task.

 Was there a change in the classroom environment / teaching-learning process after you
have implemented your classroom routines and procedures? The installation of classroom
procedures has resulted in a shift in the classroom atmosphere; the class flow is
somewhat smoother, and I have seen that there is now connection with the learners.

Analyze
1. What factors/ conditions prompted you to establish those classroom routines and
procedures?
The learners' lack of connection was one of the factors that prompted me. I want to
strengthen our bond and relationship as we spend the next ten days with them.

2. Was there a marked improvement in classroom management after employing your

classroom routines?
Classroom management has improved noticeably, and as the class develops, everything
becomes more ordered, and the students become more engaged and energetic.

3. Did the teaching-learning process improve? Justify your answer.

Yes, the teaching-learning process has improved as a result of the learners' organization,
order, and participation.

Notice
After reading and reviewing the classroom remote learning management plan from different
sources and creating your own plan, answer the following questions.

1. What salient component have you noted? As teachers, I believe we must always be mindful of
each student's requirements. We must always consider students' degree of comfort when teaching
and reflecting. This episode will concentrate on classroom procedures and routines.
2. Why is there need to utilize the information to create your classroom management plan? I think
it's important to use the information to develop my classroom management plan because it will be
easier for me to manage my classroom effectively for a variety of students if I have options for
rules and procedures that are more beneficial to students.
3. What were the significant things that you noticed when you were implementing your plan?
The most significant lesson I've learned from implementing my plan is that organization and
management of the classroom depend on planning. The classroom management plan helps
students concentrate on what they are studying and comprehend what is expected of them. The
provision of a safe and productive learning environment while minimizing distractions within our
school is one of the main objectives of this plan.
4. Were there items in your classroom / remote learning management plan which were not tailored
to the needs of your students? How will you improve on this? No, and I think that in order to get
better, I should concentrate on the materials that they will actually utilize rather than just display in
the classroom.

Analyze
1. What elements in your classroom/remote learning management plan were mostly
followed/complied?

45 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

The cleanliness of the classroom and the students' moral character were mostly followed;
respecting teachers and students, using positive language, and so on.

2. What elements in your plan were the most difficult to implement? Why?
"Be on time" was the most difficult aspect of my plan to implement because some
students have multiple household choirs and are frequently late for class.

Reflect
What were your realizations after creating and implementing your classroom/ remote
learning management plan?
I see the value of having a management plan for the classroom. It serves to help students
improve their minds so they can have strong moral character, in addition to reminding
them of their academic obligations. It also aids my students in concentrating on their
schoolwork because there are no outside distractions.

1. What factors did you consider in writing your lesson / learning plans?
I considered the ages of my students when creating my lesson/learning plan to make sure
that the language and activities I chose are appropriate for them. Because I want my
pupils to be able to convey what they have learned in class, I am also considering

50 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

combining other activities into performance objectives. To encourage my students to

learn, I want to make my lessons more interesting and engaging.

2. What difficulties did you meet in writing your lesson / learning plans?
I'm having trouble imagining how I'll present the lesson and what activities I'll include in
my lesson plan because we're doing an online class. Because I'm unfamiliar with
how to make online lessons engaging, I'm having difficulty deciding on specific
strategies to implement.

3. What feedback was/were given by your Resource Teacher in your first draft lesson /
learning plans?
My resource teacher was unable to review my draft lesson plan due to a lack of time and a
hectic schedule. But she's ecstatic that I passed the semi-in-depth lesson. I'm also
confident that my learning strategy can be improved.

4. What were the best features/areas for improvement of your/lesson learning plans?
In my opinion, the best part of my lesson is when I allow students to solve
problems in a variety of ways, such as drawing or using a place value chart. I believe it
has the potential to promote learning because students will collaborate to explore and
discover things on their own. Meanwhile, one aspect of my lesson that I can improve is the
way I will present the lessons. I need to improve my teaching strategy to avoid boredom.

Reflect
Why is lesson planning an integral part of the instructional cycle?

Teachers combine the objectives of the curriculum with pedagogy and knowledge of their
teaching situation during lesson planning. If you ask ten teachers about the advantages of
lesson planning, you might hear ten different responses. Various viewpoints exist
regarding how far in advance a teacher should plan classes. Some advice planning a
week in advance, while others advise doing so a month in advance. But ultimately, the
objective is to produce excellent learning outcomes for kids. Although creating thoughtful
lesson plans requires time and consideration, the investment can pay off in a variety of
ways. In this article, we'll look at the thing’s teachers can consider while organizing
lessons in order to ensure success for themselves, their classrooms, and—most
importantly—their students.

After creating my lesson plan, I understood
that as a teacher, I must create a lesson plan that

measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound,
as well as a lesson plan that makes students feel
the lessons were delivered to them in the proper

lesson design must promote interesting student-

I also came to the realization that developing a
lesson plan is crucial since it acts as a guide for

achieving the lesson's goals. I feel comfortable

Using Robert Gagne’s Events of Instruction, what did you notice in the following segments
of learning:

 How did the students react to the activities/various elements to arouse their interest?
Different exercises and directions elicited different responses from the students. There are
some students who favor educational games over lectures. Some students actively
engaged in the discussion by contributing their questions, opinions, and insights. Of

course, there were those kids who preferred group and partner activities because they
were shy.

 Were the students focused when you were stating the learning objectives at the beginning
of the lesson?
Yes, students were all listening attentively because I already caught their attention at the
beginning of the lesson. I have prepared presentation and they were able to read the
objectives clearly while explaining these with them.

 How did the new learnings relate with what they really know?
New learnings can be applied and relate with what they already know. Students can focus
on the relevance of the new knowledge they have gained to the prior knowledge. In this
way, learners can generalize, reflect and self-explain the concepts and ideas they have
learned and know. They can also identify the gaps of their prior learning with the new
learnings.

 Did you notice some students who needed assistance? What did you do?
Yes, there were students who needed assistance that is why I employed pair and group
activities. In this way, students who were shy and not confident to asks questions and
share ideas on discussion can do so on peer teaching and group tasks.

 Did the students find difficulty in applying the theories/concepts learned to real life?
Actually, students got the opportunity to apply what they had learnt by writing an essay
with the proper structure. As a student teacher, I was able to provide opportunities for
students to work together and learn from one another while applying concepts they had
previously learned about multidisciplinary teams and teamwork. Additionally, I was able to
create activities that link deeper connections and similar idea organization.

 How did your students react to your feedback?

Learners reacted to my feedback positively, they accepted my opinions and suggestions
wholeheartedly on how they can improve their outputs based on my constructive
criticisms.

 What pieces of evidence can prove that the students had retention of learning?
Since they were able to complete the homework I gave them, I was able to determine that
the students had retained the information. Even though there were some unavoidable
grammatical faults in their thesis statement, at least they were able to develop a strong
thesis statement.

FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

After you participated or assisted in using resources/instructional materials in teaching-learning,

described what you observed and experienced by answering the items below.

1. How did you prepare for this activity?

I prepare for the usage of resources in teaching students by doing the following:
I amassed a library of high interest reading materials to train our students. I spend time in the
library sampling and organizing specialized resources for my educational approach. I
compile a list of articles that pique students interest in specific topics and places. I provide
students with accurate and up-to-date information, as well as bookmark useful and entertaining
websites on the Internet.

2. Describe how you or the teacher utilized the resources/instructional materials. Narrate your
experience as you participated and assisted.
When I make an offer, I include deliberate learning aids that aid students in understanding key
ideas and concepts in general. Effective teaching materials are carefully developed, well-
structured, and tailored for teachers target audience. They are written and planned to make
them simple to comprehend and use by the intended audience. Effective teaching strategies
include learning, practicing, reflecting, working with other teachers, paying great attention to
students and their work, and sharing what they notice. I always include some feedback in the
learning activities, questions, and exercises I assign to my students, no matter how open-ended
or intimate they may be. Regularly engaging in the same kind of learning activity can get boring
and lifeless after a while. Create fresh challenges that reinforce each section of your learning
materials to liven them up. Effective use of pertinent learning resources helps students build
their learning methodologies, values, attitudes, and general talents in addition to receiving in-
depth knowledge on a particular topic.

3. What were your feelings and thoughts while you were assisting with the use of
the resources/materials?
While assisting with the utilization of resources and tools, these are my feelings and ideas. I felt
secure and well-informed. Because these materials and resources will aid me in my efforts to
serve. It will serve as a guide for me and provide me with ideas for instructing my students.
Then it was simple for me to teach. Because of the materials and resources that are visible in
their eyes, this will help my students understand the teachings.

4. Describe how the students responded and participated.

It's not necessary for everyone to participate in the same way or at the same time to increase
student engagement. Instead, it aims to create a setting where every student has the chance to
learn and where topics and ideas are studied in-depth from a range of viewpoints. Speaking up
louder than others will be certain students. This diversity is explained by variations in learning
preferences and personality types. For instance, some students who don't speak up often in
class are reflective learners who first formulate their thoughts and questions in their minds
before speaking.
Analyze

FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

If this is a problem with the execution or delivery of the lesson, you should determine which
activities in your lesson were successful and from which your pupils learned. For example, if it’s
game, did your kids enjoy it and participate in it? What exercise, for example, did you see that your
kids could readily follow?

What part can be improved?

According to the source, in terms of the teacher, I believe she would have modulated her voice
properly so that students could easily hear what she was saying and also been enthusiastic with
her voice so that students would be totally focused. She would also have incorporated comedy so
that pupils would be more engaged in the session

What would you have done differently? What would I change? What will make it better next time?
When used next time, the energy generated by voice, voice modulation, and humor integration will
make the debate more dynamic and complete.

How does this connect with what you know about selecting and using instructional materials?
Prior to entering the field, I was unaware of the importance of learning materials in achieving
learning objectives. I've recently recognized that there are numerous factors to consider when
selecting learning materials for students, all of which must be linked and aligned to support your
learning objectives. We must also consider student demands and learning styles, as well as
produce resources that are clear and accessible.

Reflect
1. How ready am I in selecting and developing resources/instructional
materials in the teaching-learning process? I am certain that the resources
I have created will meet the needs of my students. I understand how
critical it is to rely on reliable sources for accurate information and to design materials that
are appealing and interesting to children. I am aware that it is vital to plan ahead of time in
order to have effective learning materials that will aid in the growth of students, allowing
them to retain, integrate, and apply what they have learned
2. What do I still need to learn to select and develop resources/instructional materials in
teaching effectively? The foundation for what students can accomplish, understand, and
learn is laid out in instructional resources. They have the power to either motivate or
irritate students materials for instruction must be carefully considered, developed,
structured, enhanced, and implemented as a result, it is critical for a teacher to have
sufficient knowledge in selecting acceptable educational materials to guarantee that the
material is accurate and relevant to both the subject and the learners. These materials
should be reviewed by the teacher prior to selection and should be defined as described
in the learning outcomes and individuals preferences and learning styles that impart
knowledge in a variety of ways must be considered by teachers mixed media learning is
more engaging and accommodates a wide range of learning styles, in addition, I must

64 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

learn to ensure that the contents meet the learning objectives by providing students with a
broad variety of materials to supplement and enhance the curriculum when generating
materials. The resources should supplement rather than replace the work of the instructor
in the classroom. Finally, I need to increase my capacity to make stuff more intelligible
and accessible by studying and practicing. Assuring that learners have the prerequisite
knowledge to comprehend the teaching materials .

3. What can I do to learn more about and practice the use of resources, and
instructional materials? Instructional materials provide the major content that students will
encounter, understand, and apply during a course. Students can be motivated or
demotivated by them. This is especially true for online courses, which rely on a well-
planned and comprehensive library of educational materials that students may
access, explore, absorb, and refer to as they advance through the course. As a result,
such resources must be appropriately prepared, selected, structured, developed, and
used in a course for maximum benefit. Instructional materials should be prepared and
selected with both breadth and depth of knowledge in mind in order to enhance student
learning. The following sections cover the four main categories of criteria that teachers
employ when selecting instructional materials: accuracy and visual appeal, alignment to
standards and depth of knowledge, simplicity of use and support, and engagement and
capacity to meet student needs.

OBSERVE
1. Doing this episode on selecting and using resources/instructional materials,
what problematic situation / challenges/area of improvement did I find? I have found that
selecting resources/instructional materials, suitability, precision, materials used and
accuracy are one of the problems in selecting this area.
PLAN
2. What strategies/solutions/means can I employ to improve the situation/solve the problem?
Principles for teaching problem solving
Model a useful problem-solving method. Problem solving can be difficult and sometimes tedious.
Show students by your example how to be patient and persistent and how to follow a structured
method, such as Woods' model described here. Articulate your method as you use it so students
see the connections.
Teach within a specific context. Teach problem-solving skills in the context in which they will be
used (e.g., mole fraction calculations in a chemistry course). Use real-life problems in
explanations, examples, and exams. Do not teach problem solving as an independent, abstract
skill.

65 | P a g e
FIELD STUDY 2 Participation and Teaching Assistantship

Help students understand the problem. In order to solve problems, students need to define
the end goal. This step is crucial to successful learning of problem-solving skills. If you succeed at
helping students answer the questions "what?" and "why?", finding the answer to "how?" will
be easier.
Take enough time. When planning a lecture/tutorial, budget enough time for: understanding the
problem and defining the goal, both individually and as a class; dealing with questions from you
and your students; making, finding, and fixing mistakes; and solving entire problems
in a single session.
Ask questions and make suggestions. Ask students to predict "what would happen if ..." or
explain why something happened. This will help them to develop analytical and deductive thinking
skills. Also, ask questions and make suggestions about strategies to encourage students to
reflect on the problem-solving strategies that they use.
Link errors to misconceptions. Use errors as evidence of misconceptions, not carelessness or
random guessing. Make an effort to isolate the misconception and correct it, then teach students
to do this by themselves. We can all learn from mistakes.

ACT
3. If you will conduct action research, what will be the title “An excellent title for an action

Work on my Artifacts
Attach pieces of evidence of what you accomplished in this episode.
In this episode, I achieved a lot in terms of sharing my own
thoughts on what should be in the learning materials you
teach. It should have accurate and meaningful content to
engage students in an environment where they can learn and
grow. It's also crucial that you, the teacher, can develop a
good lesson plan so that the students won't get bored and
focus on the lesson and not on other things. Second is elicits
student interest and engagement, you need to know. Students
should be the focal point of the lesson; you must ingratiate
them with the material so that they learn and comprehend it
equally and comprehensively. Another aspect of instruction
that we should always keep in mind is one that is inclusive
and free from cultural bias. Since classes typically include
both boys and girls, it is important to avoid creating conflict
by coming up with biased learning scenarios. We also need
to have a conductive yet equal teaching style. If you put any
of that into practice, your teaching and learning will be
fantastic.
