C.
What is teaching?

In education, teaching is the concerted sharing of knowledge and experience, which is usually organized within a
discipline and, more generally, the provision of stimulus to the psychological and intellectual growth of a person by
another person or artifact

Discipline is the process of training a worker so that he can develop self-control and can
become more effective in his work.

 Foster learning
 Attends to people’s feelings, experience, and holistic needs.
 Go beyond what is given like curricular standards and actual teaching time.
 Provide intervention in order to prevent failure.
 Approach teaching and learning as a process and not just a product.

 The Department of Education now, really doing their best to continue quality education
in our country. They provide different Learning Delivery Modalities to be used in the
education system though we are experiencing andemic. We need to do our art and fight
for the challenges that we are facing now, ang continue to shorten the education in our
country. All of us are adjusting to our situation and still we need to adapt and adjust to
it, for the betterment of the quality education that we want. We need to value
patriotism, “bayanihan”, being patient, understanding, resourceful, God-fearing, & be
open -minded. Though we're experiencing this now, we don’t forget that there are still
opportunities knocking. Lease don’t forget that ;Teachers are arguably the most
important members of our society. They give children purpose, set them up for success
as citizens of our world, and inspire in them a drive to do well and succeed in life. The
children of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and teachers are that critical point that
makes a child ready for their future.

What is Profession?

A Profession is a disciplined group of individuals who adhere to ethical standards and who hold themselves
out as, and are accepted by the public as possessing special knowledge and skills in widely recognized body of
learning derived from research, education and training at high level, and who are prepared to apply this
knowledge and exercise these skills in the interest of others

The word “discipline” is derived from the Latin word “disciplina”, which means
teaching, learning andgrowing.
Megginson offer three distinct meaning of the word discipline:
* Self-discipline
• Necessary condition of orderly behavior
• Act of training and punishing.

Being a member of a Profession is also being ‘professional’. A profession is generally seen an indicator of
integrity, ethics, trust, and expertise.

"A teacher shall maintain at all times a dignified personality which could serve as
model worthy of emulation by learners, peers, and others." (Code of Ethics, Article XI,
Section 3)

Dignity is our inherent value and worth as human beings; everyone is born with it.

Duly licensed professionals who possess dignity and reputation with high moral values as well as
technical and professional competence. In the practice of their noble profession, they strictly adhere
to observe, and practice this set of ethical and moral principles, standard and values.
(Preamble Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers)

Respect, on the other hand, is earned through one’s actions.

"Every teacher shall merit reasonable social recognition for which purpose he shall behave with honor and
dignity at all times and refrain from such activities as gambling, smoking, drunkenness and other excesses,
much less illicit relations."
(Code of Ethics Article 111, Section 3)
"A teacher shall place premium upon self-respect and self-discipline as the principle of personal behavior in all
relationships with others and in all situations."
(Code of Ethics, Article XI, Section 2)

What is Teaching as a Profession?

Teaching as a profession is a group of well-trained, knowledgeable, skilled, expert and ethical individuals who
are the guiding light of students to realize their full potentials.

“Teaching is a noblest profession”

Education is a fundamental aspect in the development of a country. If the youth of a
society is educated, a future is born. Teachers provide the education that improves
quality of life, therefore bringing so much to both individuals and society as a whole

Teachers are beacon of hope for society to continue, progress, and innovate towards the future by
considering the mistake and success in the past and analyze the current actions of people in order to pave the
path a better tomorrow.

The role of a teacher is to inspire, motivate, encourage and educate learners.

"As teacher, (one) serves as an example to his/her pupils

Consequently xxx teachers must adhere to the exacting standards of morality and
decency. xxx A teacher both in his official and personal conduct must display
exemplary behavior."
He must freely and willingly accept restrictions on his conduct that might be viewed
irksome xxx

the personal behavior of teachers, IN AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM, must be beyond
reproach xxx they must observe a high standard of integrity and honesty."

provide a safe, and friendly experiences for learners.
 Teachers should follow the directions and instructions of school administrators and higher DepEd officials in
achieving the goals of education.
 Teachers should treat co-teachers and another school personnel with courtesy, consideration, and mutual
respect.

We all know that The State recognizes the vital role of teachers in nation-
building and development through a responsible and literate
citizenry.Towards this end, the State shall ensure and promote quality
education by proper supervision and regulation of the licensure examination
and professionalization of the practice of the teaching profession. According
to Article 1, Section 2 in REPUBLIC ACT NO. 7836

“We Heal As One, We Learn As One”

Teachers are charged with providing a foundation for life in the complex, diverse and
uncertain economic and social environment of the current times. It is the goal of teachers to
develop students with the skills and knowledge necessary not just for lifelong learning but
more specifically for the KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY.

Teachers truly are the backbone of society. They are role models to children, offer guidance
and dedication and give young people the power of education. Because of teachers, countries
are able to further develop socially and economically. Next time you or your community
achieve something great, take a moment to think of and be grateful for the teachers who
made it possible.
