Statement of Purpose SSI
With the rapid advancement of embedded system and sensor networks, intelligent
autonomous systems are providing robust controls and assistance to the general consumers in
today’s world. The academic and industrial prospect of integrated smart systems is huge. As a
passionate researcher and academic into this field I have been looking for the suitable post
graduate program to conduct research and enrich my knowledge in this field. I believe the
Smart System Integration Plus program has the perfect blend of specialized knowledge and skill
development platform to help me develop my career towards my passion.
Researching into how smart system works, their construction from the system level, integrating
them into application field had always made me passionate since my undergraduates. Following
my passion, I studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering, from where I graduated with a
Magna Cum Laude.
During my undergraduate years, I had been actively involved into research works and technical
projects. My research supervisor was Dr Feroz Ahmed, Dept. of EEE, IUB. Under his supervision I
conducted a published research on modeling a smart energy monitoring and management
system. The model was designed to reduce rolling blackout in Bangladesh, by neutralizing
spatial electrical load balancing through monitoring electrical consumption of HVAC
components. Collaborating with the IUB robotics club I worked on building several applications
for andro-humanoid robot NAO for its system to perform different human like operations. As a
part of my undergraduate thesis, I worked on an interdisciplinary project, by building a myRIO
based medical telepresence robot, where I had the opportunity to work with a team in which
knowledge of different engineering disciplines was essential. The research was published in
ECCE ’17 and IEEE Xplore.
I took my passion into smart system outside classroom, through participating into different
national and international programs, workshops and contests. I was selected from a list of
nationwide applicants and participated into a 5-days workshop named “The Maker’s Lab”
conducted by MIT Media Lab and Toru. The workshop was organized to developed “Design
Thinking” into smart systems and to get acquainted about some of the specialized works being
done in MIT Media Lab in this field, and to participate into building miniaturized prototypes of a
small sensor-based activity monitoring system. One of the achievements of which I’m proud of
is becoming Runner up in Nasa Space Apps Challenge 2016. The application which was
developed in the 36-hour hackathon was “Guardian of the air”. The app was designed with
smart sensor-based devices that can monitor air pollution and can provide insights to travelers
about different health issues they may face while commuting to that area. The project also
received global nomination and was also a finalist of the APICTA ICT Oscar Award 2016, held in
Taiwan.
Apart from academics, researches and achievements I strongly believe one must also acquire
the skill of leadership, actively participate into the community and get involved into different
co-curricular activities. I was actively involved into IEEE voluntarily, and was also the President
of the IEEE IUB Student Branch for the year 2016. This role helped me gain distinctive
experience into organizational leadership skill, and how to run technical and community based
voluntary works and projects. Apart from IEEE, I conducted numerous technical workshops and
courses in IUB on using different technical tools for engineering courses.
After my graduation to acquire professional experience into the technological sector I joined
Decipher Tech as a System Analyst. From my professional experience I have learned the process
of “Design Thinking”, how to develop and build solutions for the consumers that may provide
assistive services and automate their different tasks. One of the projects, where we worked
with IBM was to construct a system that records audible noises of factory machineries and
detect mechanical issues or defects by analyzing the audio signal. I was assigned into building
the system of the spectral analyzer and defect detection using machine learning.
My mission to pursue higher education into smart system is to improve my global knowledge
and intellectual ability in this science and continue building up my career in this rapidly
progressive sector. In the future, with my acquired knowledge and experience I can actively
participate into the advanced development of integrated smart systems, which are already
serving our homes, cars, offices, devices and so on.
Thanking you
