GOLD FOUND IN TUBE TUNNEL

Hundreds of pounds worth of gold has been found by tube workers working on the
London underground. The gold was discovered last night by workers digging
foundations for the new Crossrail project.
Tube worker Colin Cole said ‘I am stunned. The gold was seen by one of my
collegues and he called me over to have a look. At first I thought it was a piece of
copper but when we dug a bit more we realised it was something else. Then the
supervisor was called.” The metal has been formally identified as gold. Although
its value is not confirmed, it is thought to be worth hundreds of pounds. Different
theories about where the gold is from are being discussed my historians and
academics. It is believed it may date back to Roman times. Historian
Janice White said ‘At the moment lots of questions are being asked but we have
very few answers. We will need more time to discover the origins of this gold.’
Other people are wondering if the workers who found the gold will be rewarded ‘It
seems right that they should be recognised’ said Sam Vickers, a commuter from
Islington ‘after all, they made the discovery.
