Composting Guide

This document provides instructions for setting up a composting system to turn kitchen and yard waste into useful fertilizer. It recommends using container bins for small spaces or piles for larger yards with shade. The compost should be layered with green nitrogen-rich materials and brown carbon materials, keeping it moist but not soaked. The pile should be turned regularly to aerate it and speed decomposition. The compost is ready to use when it is a dark brown color and breaks down easily, typically after 4-6 weeks.

I have prepare a quick guide or what I called “A beginner’s guide to Composting”

Composting is easy and knowing how to set up a garden composting

system can take your gardening effort to the next level.

Here are some simple tips on how you can start composting and turn
your kitchen and household waste into useful purpose.

Para s sa mga hnd masyado malawak ung bakuran or ung nakatira lng sa appartment
we can use this type of BIN/Container. As you can see na my mga butas butas sya kc
kailangan un para ating compost for aeration/oxygen para my madaanan ung hangin.
Kng my malawak nmn kayo na bakuran you can opt for a garden compost
pile or bay, like this. All you have to do is Choose an area of your yard
with some shade so the material doesn’t dry out…So dito ung ideal size is
nasa 3 by 3 or 5 by 5 3ft tall and 3 feet deep. So it also depends din
sa ability ng person to turn the pile…. kc halimbawa kng ako parang
mahirap syang bungkalin kng 5 by 5 or 3 by 3 so kng ako mas
prepare ko cguro ung sa BIN/CONTAINER lng…

2. Know what to compost

There are two broad categories that you can put in your compost bin
or pile – green and brown.

Green materials are known to supply nitrogen so these includes fruit

and vegetable scraps, used tea, coffee grounds, grass clippings,
green plant cuttings, and other food scraps. And our Brown materials
are known also to supply Carbon that produces heat to our compost..
things like straw, paper and cardboard, dry leaves, woody prunings
and sawdust.. are what we called brown material.

3. Sothere are several types of things you should leave out of your
compost pile if you want to have a successful and safe fertilizer in
the end so that if your end goal with composting is to produce a
useable fertilizer for your plants, you should also carefully
consider what you compost and the potential harm it can do to
your plants.

4. Layer the material

Whether you’re using a composting bin, or building up a garden
compost pile, it is important to know how to layer your compost.

Sa mga my malalawak na bakuran or is your using a large container

Start with a base layer of twigs or stem of a tree, or old potting mix to
encourage air circulation and provide drainage.
Follow with layers of green and brown material — say garden
clippings and kitchen scraps, then leaves and wet paper.

When layering, try to add two parts brown material to one part green.

So E Alternate ung pglagay so brown, green, brown green until malagay na ntn
lahat sa ating compost bin/container.

Ay Add water pala after each layer to keep the pile moist but not too
wet. Finish with a layer of soil to help reduce odours.

Remember that the smaller the items are, the faster they will
decompose.

5. Occasionally turn your compost mixture to provide Aeration

This helps speed up the composting process and keeps things airy, which cut the risk of things getting
smelly.
We have to regularlymonitored it para ma sure na hnd mg watery or nag ddry and
kailangan dn na haluin or bungalin atleast 2 to 3 times week.

So Covering the compost at the top will keep in heat and moisture,
which are essential for the composting process.
6. All done!
The compost is ready for use when it’s a rich brown colour and crumbles
easily. This could take a few months, depending on the size of the bin or pile.

So pag hnd na visible ung mga raw/waste materials na ginamit ntn it means
ready ng gamitin ang ating compost.

So evntaully after 4 to 6 weeks my compost ka nag magagamit sa ung mga plants.

So itong Compost ntn is a great soil conditioner that adds nutrients and helps
your garden retain moisture. It can also reduce the need to add fertiliser and
make your plants more resistant to disease.

Thats all for my report and if you have questions, comment ,suggestion or
ideas that you can share the floor is yours. And thank you for listening.
