5.3.5 PROGRAM CONTROL Function
This function skips the processing of the program blocks marked with a slash in front of the
block number , e.g. /N100, during the execution of the program.
This function allows to execute a program with a special feed rate, the dry run feed rate, which
is defined in the setting data.
The programmed feed rates for G01, G02, G03, G33, G34, and G34 are overridden.
The dry run feed rate is also active in blocks with G95.
a) If there is only one override switch for both the feed rate and rapid traverse

7 Data Interfaces
7.1 Introduction
The SINUMERIK 805SM-TW is equipped with two serial interfaces for data transfer:
• The first interface is a universal interface (V.24/20mA) and can be used for different
devices.
• The second interface (V.24) is usually assigned to one specific device.
:

Notes:
The RS422 adapter can be used with the second interface.
The parameters for definition of the interface characteristics for both interfaces are entered
in the PARAMETER menu (see chapter ’’Parameters").
Among others, a diskette unit (DG-SM) can be conencted to interface 1 or 2 (see chapter

Please note:
A specific calling of certain data through the control is not possible
during data input!
> - ......
... .
Notes:
During input via punched tape, the input data are checked for single errors.
All characters of a punched tape code have a common identifier.
• In the ISO code, the number of holes is always even.
• In the EIA code, the number of holes is always odd.
The control automatically recognizes the correct code when reading the first "%" (ISO) or
"EOR" (EIA)I
The criterion "even number of holes" or "odd number of holes" is used, as from the second
character of the program, for character parity check.
When repeatedly reading in a program already available in the program storage, a complete
program comparison is effected as a further check.
When an error is recognized, the reading-in process is stopped, and the error is displayed on
the screen.

After activation of the DIRECTORY function, the diskette unit version, the free storage space
on the diskette in kByte and the storage capacity of the diskette in kByte are displayed
in the first line of the table of contents, e.g.: DG-SM 2.0 583/1440 •
This chapter describes the functionality as from version DG-SM 2.0. The diskette units
previously supplied have a limited functionality.
The data or functions are transferred or executed via the secured procedure 3964R (see also
function manual COMMUNICATION, SINUMERIK 805SM). For that purpose, set the 3964R
mode of operation on the diskette unit.
Furthermore, the RECEIVE and SEND modes of operation can also be set on the DG-SM. In
the RECEIVE mode of operation, all data read out by the SINUMERIK 805SM via the corre¬
sponding interface, are stored in the file SETUP805.DAT. The contents of this file can be
transferred from the diskette unit to the control in the SEND mode of operation. The RECEIVE
and SEND modes of operations make it possible to save all data necessary for a complete
start-up of the SINUMERIK 805SM and to load these data again into the control.

Directories and subdirectories cannot be created on the diskette with
the MASS STORAGE function. It is, however, possible to work with
directories, if the directory structure has already been set up on the
diskette with an external device (e.g. PC, PG, etc.).
On the diskette in the DG-SM, the following directory and file structure is filed, for example:

8 Maintenance
•Generally, PCB’s should not be touched unless work has to be carried out on
them.
•Before touching a PCB, the person carrying out the work must himself be
electrostatically discharged. The simplest way to doing this is to touch an
electrically conducting earth-grounded object (e.g. a bare metal part of a
switchboard or the protective earth contact of a socket outlet).
•The signal voltages may be applied to the PCB only after it has been connected
to the supply voltage.
•If the use of non-conducting packing containers cannot be avoided, PCB’s must
be wrapped in a conducting material before being put in them. Examples of such
materials include electrically conducting foam rubber or household aluminum foil.

The front side of the CRT and operator panel may be cleaned. When lightly soiled, you may
use a gentle household dishwashing detergent or industrial agent "Special Swipe". Those
agents will remove graphite marks too.
The agents containing the substances listed below, may only be used for a short time and with
extreme caution:
9 Monitoring
9.1 Introduction
The control permanently monitors essential functions and detects faults in the NC, PLC and
machine control early. This provides an additional damage protection for the machine,
workpiece, and tool.
In case of fault, the machining is interrupted, the drives are brought to a standstill, and the fault
cause is stored and displayed as an alarm message. At the same time, the NC outputs an
interface signal to the PLC signaling that an alarm is on.
The following is monitored:
• Read-in
• Format
• Feedback cable
• Encoder and drive
• Contour
• Spindle speed
• Enable signals
• Voltage
• Microprocessor
• Serial Interfaces
• Data transfer between NC and PLC
• Back up battery condition
• System memory
• User memory
Furthermore, the PLC user has PLC alarms and PLC messages at his free disposal. The
corresponding texts are stored in a subroutine defined via machine data.
9.2
Alarms occurring during the machining process in channel 2 are
• NC alarms:
POWER ON alarms
RS232 alarms (serial interface alarms)
RESET alarms - pertaining to the axis
RESET alarms - general
ACKNOWLEDGE alarms
• PLCPLC
alarms
system and programming alarms
PLC OEM/user alarms

1) If alarm i (battery error) occurs with the control being switched on, it can after battery change also be
acknowledged with the QUIT softkey or the RESET key.
2) The sign "*" serves as an identifier (0 = 1st axis, 1 = 2nd axis, etc.)
3) As from SW2, the number of user PLC alarms or user PLC messages depends upon PLC-MD24 or
PLC-MD25, respectively.
In the STANDARD operating environment (STANDARD BOF), however, only the alarm or
message with the lowest number (highest-priority alarm) is displayed in the alarm and message
line. A list of all pending alarms and messages, or of the NC alarms, the PLC alarms or the
PLC messages only, can be called in the DIAGNOSIS menu by pressing the corresponding
softkey.
Notes:
• The block number indicates the NC part program block in which the error occurred.
• The ordinal number (ORD) indicates the sequence in which the alarms occurred. The

Checked: - At POWER ON
- After MD change
Effect: The conversion factor 1 is being assumed
Explanation: The position controller resolution (MD5002) and the input resolution do
not match (ratio greater than 10).
Remedy: Correct MD5200, switch the NC off and on again.
10 L2 module failure
13 RAM error
Explanation:
- Last block is declared invalid.
Received EIA character has the right parity but is not defined by EIA
code.
Remedy: Check the tape:
Check EIA codes for and
Attention! Since the " = " character is not defined in EIA code, the following files
cannot by read in:
- %TEA1 (NC Machine Data)
- %TEA2(PLC Machine Data)
- %RPA (R Parameters)
- %TOA (Tool Offsets)
- %ZOA (Zero Offsets)
- Main programs and subroutines with R parameter calculations
Cause: Received part program block has more than 120 characters. Only real
characters are counted, no spaces, no CR, etc.
Effect: - The serial transfer is interrupted.
- Last block is declared invalid.
Remedy: Divide the block into two or more blocks.
Cause: Interface signal "Cycle lock" is active; it was attempted to read-in the
NC or PLC machine data texts without password.
Effect: Data has not been stored
Remedy: - Reset Q78.3 in PLC status screen.
- Enter the password (NC asks for it when machine data are
changed).
Cause: The PLC tries to start the data transfer after it has been started already
on the NC.
Effect: Data is not stored.
Remedy: Stop and start the data transfer again.
Checked: Cyclically
Effect: - NC START is blocked
- Cmd. val. relay is off (cmd. val. = 0)
- NC READY 2 is taken away
- Controller enable is taken away after time set in MD156 (enable
relay is off)
- Follow-up mode is switched on.
Explanation: The differential signals in measuring circuit
- are not phase-synchronous
- are short-circuited to the ground
- are missing
Remedy: - Check if connector on the measuring PCB is plugged in firmly. You
may check the PCB using dummy feedback connector.
- Check the differential signals with an oscilloscope.
- Replace the encoder.
Checked: Cyclically
Effect: NC START is blocked.
The current program is processed until completed.
Explanation: If an measuring system outputs this signal, e.g. EXE, the measuring
PCB signals an error to the NC.
Remedy: Check the measuring system.
(In preparation)
Checked: Cyclically
Effect: - NC START is blocked
- Cmd. val. relay is off (cmd. val. = 0)
- NC READY 2 is taken away
- Controller enable is taken away after time set in MD156 (enable
relay is off)
- Follow-up mode is switched on.
Explanation: - The control has output higher speed cmd. value as per MD264*.
- The motor could not follow the command value.
Remedy: - Check if MD264* value is greater than MD268* value
- Check the drive
- Check the measuring system
- Are all the ground wires connected to one point on the NC?
- Check drive amplifier
- Check position controller orientation (are act./cmd. switched?)
Checked: Cyclically
Effect: - NC START is blocked ,
- A " +" or is displayed in field.
- Axis motion is not possible
Explanation: Drift exceeded 500 mV, i.e. the value NC can compensate for.
Remedy: - Effect drift compensation in MD 272*.
Operation:
-- Select service menu in data area.
- Press DRIFT COMP softkey for the respective axis.
- Check drift comp, on drive amplifier.
- Check drive amplifier.
- Check grounding system.
Cause: The SYNCHRONIZATION function has been selected via the G-function
G151 or via the SYNCHRONIZATION ON signal (A85.7), and the
sychronous axis (slave) has been programmed.
Effect: NC START is blocked.
Remedy: Check the part program.
Deselect SYNCHRONIZATION function, traverse synchronous axis, re¬
select the function.
Checked: Cyclically
Effect: - NC START is blocked
- Cmd. val. relay is off (cmd. val. = 0)
- Controller enable is taken away after time set in MD156 (enable
relay is off)
Explanation:
- Follow-up mode is switched on.
The PLC issued an EMERGENCY STOP signal to the NC.
Remedy: - Check if Q78.1 is equal to 0 in PLC STATUS screen
- Check if EMERGENCY STOP cam is reached or EMERGENCY
STOP switch is on.
- Check the PLC program.
Attention! According to the regulations a hard-wired EMERGENCY STOP switch-
off must be available (with relay) in addition to the software switch-off
through the control.
Explanation: The software pre-limit switch has been reached and the axis speed has
been reduced.
Remedy: - Check the program.
- Check MD0; pre-limit switch.
- Check MD1; speed behind pre-limit switch.
Cause: An axis speed higher than the max. axis speed (MD 280*) was preset.
Effect: Speed is reduced to max. speed.
Explanation: • The programmed speed is higher than the path speed resulting from
the max. speed.
• For thread cutting (G33), a spindle speed and thread lead were
programmed which would result in an axis speed higher than the
max. axis speed (MD 280‘).
• One of the following data is higher than the max. speed:
- Conventional feed (JOG)
- Conventional rapid traverse (JOG)
- Incremental speed
- Reference-point approach speed
Remedy: - Program a slower path speed.
- Check MD 280* max. path speed.
- Check MD296* in reference-point approach.

Example:
N10...X60 B15 LF (Z axis 1s missing)
N20...X90 B10 LF
Explanation: If TRC or CRC active (G41/G42), the functions G33, G34, G35, G59,
G92, and M19 S.. may not be programmed.
Remedy: - Program G40 function.
- Deactivate TRC/CRC using G41/G42 D00.
Checked: Cyclically
Effect: - NC START is blocked.
- Command value relay is de-energized.
- Command value is set to zero.
- NC READY 2 is switched off.
- Spindle enable is taken away after time as per MD4470.
Explanation: see alarm 132*.
Remedy: see alarm 132*.
Note: Axis measuring circuit alarms occurring in the sequence after the alarm
- -
CONTROL LOOP SPINDLE HARDWARE, are recognized, but not
displayed.
Checked: Cyclically
Explanation: A measuring system featuring "system dirty" signal has signaled it
to NC.
Effect: NC START is blocked.
Remedy: Check the measuring system.
Explanation: The NC can substitute one axis in the programmed plane. If more than
one axis is missing, NC cannot make an approach in this plane.
Remedy: - Check the positioning block for missing axis error.
- It is not allowed to de-select approach in a block following its
selection (tangent cannot be calculated).
Explanation: The soft approach/retract movements are related to the selected plane
G16, G17, G18, or G19.
Remedy: Check if plane was changed in the block where this function was
programmed. Check the next block too.
Cause: The leading axis and the synchronous axis have moved away from
each other by more than the distance indicated in MD 168 (maximum
path difference).
Effect: NC START is blocked.
Remedy: Check MD of the leading axis and the synchronous axis. After acknow¬
ledgement of the alarm, the path difference has to be traversed back.
Cause: The leading axis and the synchronous axis have the same axis number.
Effect: NC START is blocked.
Cause: The BLOCK SEARCH function has been started in a part program with
programmed synchronous axes.
Explanation: More than 5 geometry parameters have been programmed in one block,
i.e. axes, interpolation parameters, radii, angles, etc.
Remedy: see alarm 3000.
Explanation: The PLC started the 2nd V.24 interface without the corresponding option
being available.
Remedy: - Use the 1st serial interface.
- Retrofit the C62 option (2nd serial interface).
Explanation: A function which is not available with the control has been programmed.
Remedy: - see alarm 3000.
- Retrofit the respective option.
Checked: When TRC/CRC is active but not in the block where it was activated or
deactivated.
Explanation: - The path calculation results in a movement in opposite direction than
programmed.
- When TRC/CRC is active, max. 1 intermediate block is allowed.
Contrary to processing a program in channel 1, in the display of the
finished part (channel 3), a block with @a01 is also counted as an
intermediate block. This may cause this alarm.
Remedy: First program the @a01 and then activate TRC/CRC.
