LPW 2022-23

1. The document provides instructions for students for their Machine Design practice laboratory work. It lists 11 points covering requirements like bringing necessary books and materials, recording design work, drawing neat designs, including title blocks and bills of materials in set formats, clearly dimensioning mating parts, planning work in advance, and incorporating teacher feedback. 2. The document then provides 4 problems covering designs of single and multi-plate clutches, centrifugal clutches, hydraulic presses, and internal expanding brakes. It gives specifications for each design exercise and states any additional data needed may be assumed. Students are to complete the designs and drawings. 3. The instructions aim to guide students in properly planning and executing their machine design laboratory work

Machine Design I (2ME501) (LPW)

Instructions to students for Machine Design Practice:

1. All the students should come with a book on machine design, data book, calculator, notebook
etc.
2. The design work carried out for a particular major problem should be recorded during each
practical turn and the concerned teacher's check/signature is to be obtained.
3. The drawing work should be neat and clean.
4. The title block should be drawn as per IS Code of drawing. (SP 46)
5. The bill of material should
• Contain the name of the exercise done (i.e. e.g. Design of steam stop value etc.)
• Have the specifications of standard items (such as screw, bolts, bearings, seals, washers,
etc.) as per IS.
• Have the indication of materials used for components as per IS (i.e. e.g. C 40 or 50)
6. The dimensions of mating parts for assembly must be clearly mentioned (with tolerance
if applicable) and checked.
7. Planning for the term should be done in advance.
8. Teacher will give schedule for the work to be done during semester and student will plan their
activity so as to meet the schedule.
9. Report writing should contain data of a problem, diagram of the design to be carried out with
notations assumptions made, references used, sketc hes of components designed as the
design progresses and at the end.
10. Student should make all corrections given by the teacher and submit the drawing sheet in bound
from as desired.
11. Due weightage will be given to the students for their understanding, diligence, quality of work
and regularity in laboratory work.
