IMPLEMENTATION OF SAFETY MEASURES ON PFI CONSTRUCTION SITES (INDUSTRIAL PLATFORM)

INTRODUCTION

In themanagementcompanies, industrial security, in the broad sense, generally consists of

guaranteeing thesecuritygoods, people and also thesustainabilityof the company.

In industrial companies, whose activities presenthazardsand thereforerisksproven or plausible,

industrial safety then focuses on the analysis of these risks and their control.

It is in this sense that the company PLATEFORME INDUSTRIELLE (PFI) in order to ensure
the safety of its workers submitted us to the theme entitled << IMPLEMENTATION OF
SECURITY MEASURES ON PFI CONSTRUCTION SITES ˃˃

For a better presentation of our work, we will focus in the first part on the presentation of the
structure that hosted us and the context of the given project. This first part will also give us
the opportunity to talk about the certain activities and projects carried out by the companies
thereafter in a second part we will speak about the role and the importance of an HSE service
in a company in order to set up in a third part security measures related to the types of
business activities. And at the level of the fourth part, it was a question of applying its
measures on one of the projects of the OLAM site.

CHAPTER 1: PRESENTATION OF THE RECEPTION

STRUCTURE

I. COMPANY PRESENTATION

PFI (industrial platform) is a company specializing in the fields of industry, created in 2017
by Mr. Zamblé Bi Zamblé Michel on the initiative of former workers of mechanical
construction structures and the national industrial chessboard.

Company with limited resources (SARL), with a capital of 1,000,000 FCFA, PFI has assigned
itself since its creation the mission of stimulating a new dynamic in this sector, by
implementing innovative ideas.

It is based in Ivory Coast more precisely in Marcory. It is one of the companies offering its
services to different sectors of activity in the national market. The company specializes in
various fields such as piping, boilermaking, metal construction, maintenance, mechanical
installation, etc.

II. PRESENTATION OF THE TOPIC

The end-of-cycle project aims to meet a particular need of a company in a technical field. As

The theme submitted to us is entitled < IMPLEMENTATION OF SECURITY MEASURES

ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITES OF PFI (INDUSTRIAL PLATFORM >.

II.2. Interest

The interest of this theme is to ensure the safety of workers, improve working conditions in
order to increase the productivity of the company while giving it a good reputation.

II.3. Work to do

- Identification, analysis and assessment of the risks related to the various activities,

- Proposal of risk prevention and recovery measures

- Application of appropriate measures on a project

III. PFI ACTIVITIES

➢ The main activities

To impose itself on the market of industrial services in Ivory Coast, PFI strives to offer a wide
range of activities to its customers; thus meeting all the possible needs of companies using its
services. Among all its services offered there are some that observe a strong demand from

CHAPTER 2: IDENTIFICATION AND ASSESSMENT OF

RISKS

I. IDENTIFICATION OF RISKS FOLLOWING EACH

ACTIVITY

In industry, there are several risks to which every man is exposed.

And among all its risks, we can mention among others:
- Traffic and travel risks
- The risks of manual handling
- Physical risks
- The risks of fire and explosion
- Chemical risks
- Biological risks
- Electrical risks

For the identification of risks, it will be a question in a table of presenting all the risks relating
to the activities in question.
TASKS RISK FAMILY DESCRIPTION OF THE RISK

II. BASICS OF RISK ASSESSMENT

Risk assessment is used to plan control actions in the company, taking into account
priorities. When risks cannot be eliminated or reduced immediately, they must be
classified as objectively as possible according to their importance, in order to prioritize
preventive actions.

▪ The assessment will be made on the basis of 3 parameters which together will
make it possible to assess all the risks and know who to prioritize in order to be
reduced or eliminated urgently

Its parameters are:

- Gravitywhich characterizes the importance of the damage induced by the risk.

It will be assigned a rating ranging from 1 to 4 depending on the level of severity
1-low/2-medium/3-grave/4-very serious

- The probabilitywhich characterizes the possibility of this happening.

It will be assigned a rating ranging from 1 to 4 depending on the level of probability
1-very unlikely/2-unlikely/3-likely/4-very likely

- Thecriticalitywhich is expressed as the product of probability and severity.

CRITICALITY (C) = SEVERITY (G) X PROBABILITY (P)

The results of the criticalities will then allow us to define intervals in which the results of the
products (G x P) will be the levels of criticality.
12-16: very high/6-9: High/4-3: Medium/1-2: Low

Thanks to its results, a level of priority will thus be given to each risk in order to proceed with
the reduction or elimination of its risks.
IMPLEMENTATION OF SAFETY MEASURES ON PFI CONSTRUCTION SITES (INDUSTRIAL PLATFORM)

III. RISK ANALYSIS

Following the assessment, the analysis will consist in a table of exposing all the risks and
consequences of each activity in order to affect the criticality indices and therefore to know
the levels of criticality linked to each facet of the activity.

As an example below, the analysis table relating to the boilermaking activity is presented.

IV. DISCOVERY OF EXISTING PREVENTION MEASURES

After carrying out the analysis and risk assessment, well before drawing up our table which
will affect the preventive measures to be adopted for each activity, it will first be necessary to
present some means of prevention that exist.

In the industrial world and outside, there are several means of safety and prevention against
risks and accidents and we can list among the different existing families:

➢ PPE which includes several categories (protective equipment for the body, head,
hands, etc.) ranging from head protection (helmet, goggles, etc.) to feet (safety
shoes, etc.) Depending on activity to be performed

- TRAINING

Agents must benefit from information or safety talks on:

- The risks against which the PPE protects them, the instructions or instructions
concerning the PPE and many others.

- VERIFICATION OR CONTROL

There are various mandatory PPE checks:

- A visual check before each use Report and renew Defective or expired PPE and
others.

V. APPLICATION OF PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND

RECOVERY MEASURES TO PFI ACTIVITIES

Following the identification, evaluation, analysis and discovery of means of prevention

against the various risks discovered, a final table will finally be drawn up to present all the
means of prevention corresponding to each risk and each activity and also a presentation of
the means of recovery in the event of the occurrence of its risks.

CHAPTER 3: APPLICATION ON A PROJECT (OF THE OLAM
CUSTOMER)

PROJECT: REPAIR OF A LEAF OF THE MPF SAS ENTRANCE GATES

After all this theory phase, it is important to test the veracity and functioning of this process in
the field in order to ensure that the prevention measures found are adapted to the realities on
the ground.

It is with this in mind that we will proceed for this project to the complete process of
identification, evaluation, analysis and assignment of the measures to be undertaken during
the execution of each stage of the project.

For this project, the task was to repair a leaf of the gate of one of the entrances to the OLAM
factory. The different stages were:

- Dismantling the old gate

- Reconstruction of new support
- Welding of the new hinges and reassembly of the gate

IV. DURING THE WORKS

Beyond the implementation of its preventive measures, the most difficult step is to have them
applied and respected by the agents who are most concerned.

Therefore, in the project execution phase, a pre-project instruction meeting was held with the
agents in order to present to them the measures that they will have to adopt in each phase of
the project.

And so During the execution of the project we have ensured:

- Control and verification of all documents and permits

- Mandatory compliance with all safety instructions and rulesinstituted.
▪ And carry out a safety assessment with all those responsible for the project

Overall all instructions were followed, we had

- 0 accidents
- 0 complaints

And the project went perfectly.

▪ General report of the project

The objectives have been achieved, but it is important to continue to work together in
order to always ensure the safety of the staff, the well-being of our agents and therefore
the sustainability of the company.
IMPLEMENTATION OF SAFETY MEASURES ON PFI CONSTRUCTION SITES (INDUSTRIAL PLATFORM)

CONCLUSION
Through these three (03) months of internship within the company PLATEFORME
INDUSTRIELLE, we were able to acquire a better knowledge of the industrial field, the risks
incurred by the agents and industrial personnel on a daily basis and the search for appropriate
measures in order to ensure safety. In order to carry out our mission, we have followed the
following approach:

- visit all PFI company sites to understand the risks to which employees are exposed on
a daily basis;
- identify risks;
- analyze the risks;
- assess the risks;
- propose prevention and recovery measures;
- apply the measures on one of the projects at OLAM;
- assess the performance of its measures and the impact on the execution of the work.

Indeed the effectiveness of these recommendations could not be verified on all the company's
sites because of the limited duration of the internship, but we received a favorable response
from the supervisor.

We think that this experience offered us a good preparation for our professional integration
because it was for us an enriching and complete experience which reinforces our desire to
practice in the field of industry.
