Contemporary Issues in Science and Technology


Direction: Students will use inquiry skills to examine the science and technology issues
that impact the contemporary world. Included in the project will be the analysis of the
historical, cultural, economic, and geographic factors that have raised certain science
and technology issues to levels of concern in our nation and around the globe. Students
will engage in research and problem solving in order to better understand and assess
significant current issues.
Objectives:

• Develop proficiency in using the skills and tools of inquiry;


• Analyze and understand the roles played by individuals, groups, and
organizations on contemporary events and issues;
• Analyze and understand the relationship between history, geography, and politics
and contemporary events and issues; and
• Creatively propose a solution to contemporary issues in Science and Technology.
Concept Guide:

Students do not have to answer this in a bullet form, this is your guide while
making the project. This can serve as a support for the analysis of the project and to
focus your attention to key details of your selected issue.
1. Analyze the use of persuasion, argument, and dispute when discussing the
selected science and technology issue.
2. Distinguish between facts and inferences, and evaluate the relevance of data. 3.
Examine how groups, organization and individuals influence solutions to society’s
problems.
4. Analyze the role of media in shaping world events and influencing public opinion
in the selected issues.
5. Trace and explain the historical development of the selected issue. 6. Describe the
relationships between historical events and contemporary issues. 7. Identify and
explain the connection of science and technology issue to geography and issues of
culture, economics, and politics.
8. Recognize the impact and the effects of the contemporary issues on human
society.
9. Explain and analyze the major implications of the issue to local, national, and
international events.
10.Propose solutions to critical problems and evaluate the impact of their proposed
solutions by integrating multiple sources of information from diverse formats and
media.
Format: There is no required format. You can pass in any format as long as I can open
and check your project.

Grading:

• Understanding of Content (40%) - Shows a sophisticated understanding of the


themes in the work.
• Creativity (35%) - Creatively and uniquely presented.
• Required Elements (10%) - Includes all of the required elements as stated in the
directions/instructions.
• Effectiveness and Organization (15%) - Project is engagingly organized and
presents material that is captivating for the viewer.
