Argumentative Essay - Sample

University education should be free for all students according to the document. Making education free would allow gifted students from financially disadvantaged families to follow their career choices and become leaders. It would also grow the number of people with well-paying jobs, helping the economy. While some argue universities cannot survive without student fees, the government should invest more in education to make it accessible without financial worries.

University education should be free for all students.

Nowadays, a lot of teenagers graduate high school and apply for a job,
without continuing their studies. That is not because they don’t want to, but
because they don’t have the financial support of their parents. In my opinion,
children shouldn’t worry about money when it comes to their education.
To start with, there are a lot of gifted students who don’t have access to
university education because of the financial conditions in their families. If
university education were free for everyone, these teenagers would follow the
career they choose and become the leaders of tomorrow. An example is one of
my neighbours’ children whose her parents couldn’t afford to pay taxes to a
university after their daughter finished high school. Fortunately, she got a
scholarship, finished medical school and is now a doctor in France who saves
lives every day. She couldn’t have done any of that if she hadn’t received
university education.
Moreover, making university education free would grow the number of
people with chances to get a well paid job and this would help the economy of
country because we all know that better jobs mean better lives. For example,
there are a lot of people who went to university, learned a lot and then started a
business, employed local people and developed the economy of the city they
lived in.
On the other hand, some people say that university education shouldn’t
be free because the cost of maintaining a university, of paying the teachers’
salaries and buying the equipment necessary to teach students is very high, so if
students didn’t pay taxes for their studies, universities couldn’t survive
financially. However, I think that the government should invest more money
into education and this way, help students go to university without worrying
about the taxes.
To conclude, I believe that universities should be free because that
would not only help students who can’t afford to pay taxes to have a chance at
education, but it would also help the economy of the country.
