To answer it in a word, NO it doesn’t damage your
battery.
It is basically due to the fact that current is
pulled and voltage is pushed.
Now, assume our phone charger supplies 5V 2A
and your phone is designed for 5v 1A.
So, even if your phone charger supplies
5V 2A , your phone will only receive 5V
1A.
Now, instead if your phone charger
supplies 10V 2A , your phone will receive
10V and 1A as all the 10V is pushed into
the phone and only the required 1A is
pulled from your charger by our phone.
So, the conclusion is even

Nothing happens really. The phone will charge
exactly how its designed to, unless you're using a
faulty charger.
All science discussed here, let me show the
practical scenario.
Whichever charger you plug into, the phone
decides how much current is drawn.

Charging a battery faster doesn’t make much
difference except you have the battery charged
much faster.
Let’s make this a bit more simple to understand -
if you had some AA batteries for example and
they were rated at 2000mA, this means they can

Actually,it does matter at which rate you are
charging your mobile battery. Be it 1 Amps, 2
Amps or 4 Amps. Battery will charge.
Any battery, be it a mobile battery or a car
battery, is design to charge at specific safe
current. To be true , its better practice to charge

Over rated source(adapter) in terms of current is
fine….please note over rated in terms of “current”
not “voltage”. A higher voltage may damage your
system.
Providing higher rated current source is like
someone has 2 million $ (similar to 2A adapter)
and he just need 1 million $ (his load) for home
and other expenses….so he is safe as it full fills
his expenses. He has reserved extra in case there
is little more load on him(varying load condition).
This shows that whichever charger you plug into

Assuming the given values in th Direct Current
analogy and not the Alternating one.
The no load voltage and full load voltage are same
if the magnetizing current and losses are
neglected. Due to this concept, it can be said that
the voltage is independent of load except some
dip in practical considerations.
Now looking over to current, the output current
always depends upon the load connected to it.
Example.
If a 230V, 60W bulb is connected and 230V,
1000W geyser is connected to the supply then it
would operate at same voltage ratings but the

Damage? No.
Shorten the life of the battery? Yes.
A battery should always be charged as slowly as
practical. If you have the time, slow the charge.
The battery will last longer.
If you are in a rush, go ahead and charge it faster.
Just know that each time you do that, you are
reducing the total number of charge cycles that
the battery will accept before it becomes useless.
In everyday practice, I use a fast charger in my
car and a slow charger overnight.

The external device is not really a charger. Yes,
everyone calls them that. It is not what they are.
The charger is built into the phone. It controls
how much current at what voltage goes to the
battery.
The external device is a power supply, usually
fixed at 5 volts.
The charger in the phone is programmed by the
phone maker and may, or may not draw more
current from the “charger” you plug into the wall
if it can supply more.
But in any case, the phone maker should only
allow a safe charge rate.

the battery?
No, it will not. Mobile phones have built-in
charging circuits that manage how much charging
current will reach the battery. If the wall-charger
you select is able to put out more current than the
phone's charging circuit is designed to take, that
built-in circuit will limit the current to the safe
amount.

Nothing will happen if charging circuit inside
mobile is designed with proper factor of safety,
and charging will be little faster. But fast charging
reduces battery life in long run. Say , if your
battery is working 4 hours today, then after 2
years, if charged with recommended charger, it
will last for 3 hours, and if fast charger is used, it
will last for 2-2.5 hours.
It is just an adaptor . It always provides same
current output. Its not a charger. Charger charges
lithium batteries in specific pattern

Well it depends on how you charge the battery.
If you are talking about scenario where the
battery is being charged without any monitoring
or controlling mechanism then the answer is
"YES" there will be a damage. But in case you
have any intelligent charging system just like
mobiles or laptops, then answer is "NO".
Let's see some details, in many answers it is
mentioned that "Devices won't take more current
just because our source is capable of delivering
more current." it is absolutely correct in case of
passive loads. But when Reading

Answer: No!
Reason: When a charger or any power source is
rated, say in your case as 5 V, 2 A or 5 V , 1 A, it
simply means that it can supply a maximum
voltage of 5 V and a maximum current of 2 A or 1
A.
Now, the amount of current drawn from the
source depends upon the load (here your
battery). A load draws only the required amount
of current from the source. When your phone
charges faster with 2 A charger because it is able
to draw a larger amount of current as compared
to the 1 A charger BUT within it’s operating limits.
