• Direct contact with vegetation, in and around the built environment, is one of the most successful
strategies.
• Nature-filled spaces reduce stress, improve comfort, and promote healing of the occupants.
• This biophilic element focuses on use of shapes and forms that are naturally found in nature.
• This principle includes representations and simulations of the natural world on buildings, both internally and
externally.
• Spaces that simulate natural features or imitate organic forms of nature rather than sticking to the straight edges and
right angles typically found in modern architecture are preferred
• This is achieved by having central focal points, patterned wholes, and clear boundaries in the building design.
• For ex. A central focal point offers reflection, stillness, and the chance to experience the soothing tones of wind
chimes.
Principles of Biophilic Design
4.Light and Space:
• This biophilic element focuses on using light and space to evoke a desired human reaction.
• The use of light and space is a crucial element of biophilic design, and there are many ways they can
be incorporated into a space.
• The use of natural light in abundance creates stimulating, dynamic, and sculptural forms in the space.
• At the same time, spaces can be used to create a sense of openness, diversity, harmony and a link
between indoor and outdoor environments.
• It refers to the linking of the culture with ecology and prominent geographical features.
Principles of Biophilic Design
6.Evolved Human-Nature Relationship:
• This biophilic principle is focused on fundamental aspects of our relationship with nature and how
they can be reflected in the built environment.
• This can include a sense of safety and protection, a balance of variety with regularity, fostering
curiosity and exploration and engendering a sense of accomplishment.
Advantages of Biophilic Design:
• Aids our physical and mental wellbeing.
in nature.
• Design restrictions.
• Durability concerns.
• Financial restrictions.
• Psychological barriers.
• Functional difficulties
Workplaces:
• Wellbeing improves by 15%
• Productivity increases by 6%
• Performance is increased by 10-25%
• 15% reduction in absenteeism
Educational spaces:
Optimising exposure to natural daylight can
• Increase speed of learning by 20-26%
• Improve attendance rates by 3.5 days/ year
• Improve test scores by 5-14%
Use of Timber walls reduce heart rates by 8600 beats per day
Implications of Biophilic Design
Healthcare:
• Recuperation improves by 8.5% in natural views
• Natural light reduces pain resulting in reduction of pain care medication by 22%
Housing:
• 7% higher sales and rental value
• Crime reduction by 7-8%
Hospitality:
• Nature views increase room prices by 23%
• 36% more time spent in nature filled lobbies

GLUMAC SHANGHAI OFFICE,CHINA -FEATURES
• Renovation of spaces in a historic building with minimum environmental
impact.
• 63 percent of water reduction from baseline through innovative low-flow
fixtures
• Achieving Net positive water by harvesting and recycling rainwater each year,
• Applying specialized task-ambient lighting fixtures with multiple controls to
achieve Radiant floor system for heating and cooling incorporate with
dehumidification unit to create comfortable indoor environment yet reducing
heating & cooling load.
• Energy reduction by 50 percent compared Achieving Net-positive energy, PV
produces 53,000 kWh, the space consumes less than 40,000 kwh per year.
• Indoor Air Quality control, even when outside is above 300, VOC, Humidity,
CO2 levels are all indicating good and healthy.
• Healthy material selection, zero hazardous chemicals is throughout the space.
• Responsible industry & appropriate sourcing, local manufactured, recycled &
salvaged material that reduce the damaging environmental and social impacts.
• Achieving zero carbon footprint by offsetting 100 percent of the embedded
carbon in the project.
• Biophilic design a natural surrounding will in turn help people to sustain and
love life and work.

GREENACRE PARK,NEWYORK USA -FEATURES
• Greenacre park provides a hierarchy of places for withdrawal
from
environmental conditions or the main flow of activity,
in which the individual is protected from behind and overhead.
• The experience at Greenacre park is enhanced through
the capacity to see, hear, and touch water.
• These non-visual sensory stimuli engender a deliberate and
positive reference to nature, living systems, or natural processes,
creating a restorative atmosphere.
• The promise of more information entices the individual to
travel deeper into the environment, providing opportunities
for exploration and discovery.
• The design of Greenacre park makes it an ideal space to relax and
recharge, or to get some work done. These uses are supported by
the
biophilic experience of the space. Key patterns have the
potential to support the following positive health responses
