1.1 Introduction
Level 1 laboratory activity refers to condition where the problem and ways &
means are guided and given to the students. However the answers to the
assignment are left to the students to solve using the group creativity and
innovativeness. The activity is hope to slowly introduced and inculcate
independent learning amongst students and prepare them for a much
harder task of open-ended laboratory activities.
In this laboratory activity, student will be exposed to the apparatus and
appropriate methods to carry out the voltage value (V) and air flow (m/s) for
different configuration in an air condition and the ventilation system used in
the building.
1.2 Objective
The objective of the test is:
PREAMBLE To determine the relationship between voltage value (V) and air flow (m/s)
for different configuration.
2 Problem Statement
In the past, most buildings had windows that opened; airing out a stuffy
room was common practice. In addition, indoor-outdoor air pressure
differences provided ventilation by movement of air through leaks in the
building shell. However, most of new office buildings are constructed
without operable windows, and mechanical ventilation systems are used to
exchange indoor air with a supply of relatively cleaner outdoor air. The rate
PROBLEM
STATEMENT at which outdoor air is supplied to a building is specified by the building
code. Supply rates are based primarily on the need to control odors and
carbon dioxide levels; carbon dioxide is a component of outdoor air, but its
excessive accumulation indoors can indicate inadequate ventilation. In this
laboratory, the group will be required to prepare a report of the laboratory
results highlighting the relationship between voltage value (V) and air flow
(m/s) for U-shape and Y-shape.
3.1 Apparatus
3.2 Procedures
Procedure for ventilation system:
1) Switch on the Main Switch of the Ventilation Trainer B500 Unit for U-
shape configuration.
2) Turn the voltage into any THREE (3) different levels and measure the
current (A) and voltage (V).
3) Determine the velocity at each diffuser in u-shape configuration (at
least three reading) by using Hand Held Anemometer
4) Repeat step (ii) and (iii) for Y-shape configuration.
5) Tabulate the observed data.
6) Plot the graph voltage (V) versus airflow/velocity (m/s).
