09 OHV Recording VI Test Data - HyperTerm

The document describes how to access and record traction inverter VI feedback test data from open haul trucks equipped with TMC or IMC inverter control cards. The procedure involves placing the truck in rest mode, forcing a VI test, connecting a laptop to the inverter port, running a terminal program to capture test output, performing the VI test, and emailing the captured file to the specified engineering addresses.

Recording TMC/IMC VI Feedback Test Data

Objective: To describe how to access and record traction-inverter VI Feedback test

data from OHV AC Trucks equipped with the following traction inverter
control cards:

 17FB179 (TMC)
 17FB172 (TMC)
 17FB138 (IMC)

Procedure:

1.) Perform the following:

a.) Place the truck in REST and wait until the REST lamp is illuminated.

b.) Connect your laptop’s serial port to the PSC’s PTU port, and using the AC
truck’s wPTU program, change parameter VI_TEST_FORCE to 1.
Setting this parameter permits a VI test to be conducted each time the
truck is taken out of REST. NOTE: With this parameter set, the inverter
TEST status at the bottom of the wPTU’s Real Time Data screen will
always immediately change from COMPLETE to WAITING, even after
a successful VI Test sequence.

c.) Now connect your laptop's serial port to the monitor port of the Inverter of
concern.

d.) Exit the wPTU program and invoke your laptop's applicable terminal
emulation program (HyperTerm, SmartTerm, ProComm, etc.) and enable
file capture mode. (Note: If this is the first time you have used
HyperTerm, reference setup instructions in the Appendix before
proceeding).

 If using HyperTerm program, begin capturing text by

selecting 'Transfer->Capture Text' at the top of the HyperTerm
window. When prompted, enter a filename where you would
like to store the data – for example, C:\xxxxxYYY.txt

 Suggested filename: xxxxxYYY.txt

where: xxxxx is the Mine name (e.g., PD)

YYY is the Truck number (e.g., 234)

e.) Enter several X characters until the INVCPU> prompt is displayed.

f.) Enter V keystroke to command the Inverter to output its version

information, allowing you to confirm that you are connected to the desired
inverter.

2.) Now perform the following:

a.) Take the truck out of REST so the system controller will request a VI
test for the inverters. Wait until the mid-voltage (200 v) and high-voltage
(700 v) VI tests have completed.

b.) If the expected inverter fault logs, continue with step (c). Otherwise,
place the truck back into REST, wait until the REST light is illuminated,
delay an additional 10-20 seconds, and then repeat step (a) .

c.) Enter T F K keystrokes to command the Inverter to display

comprehensive Inverter configuration and VI Feedback test information.
Keep hitting the <spacebar> until no further screens of data are
displayed.

d.) Enter several X characters until the INVCPU> prompt is again displayed.

3.) Exit the file capture mode (thereby saving the data to disk) and exit the terminal
emulation program.

If using HyperTerm, this is accomplished by selecting

'Transfer->Capture Text->Stop'

at the top of the HyperTerm window. All text which was output to the
screen is now transferred to the file you specified at the start of the
session.

4.) Finally, forward the resulting data file via E-mail to GETS OHV COE
Engineering:

Appendix: Instructions for First-time HyperTerm Setup

Because most Windows-based laptop computers have HyperTerm included, attached are
instructions for setup and operation.

Before beginning, make sure your serial cable is connected to the TMC/IMC and to your
laptop, COM1.

Note: Instructions surrounded by single quotes are either text for you to enter,
or, text that is displayed on the screen. Do NOT type the quotes.

1. Locate HyperTerm under ‘Start Menu -> Program Files -> Accessories ->
Communications’, click on the HyperTerminal folder, then click on ‘Hypertrm.exe’

2. When the ‘Connection Description’ Dialog comes up, type in ‘ohv_truck’ for the
name and click ‘OK’

3. When the ‘Connect To’ box comes up, select ‘Direct to Com1’ under ‘Connect
using:’

4. In the next screen, select :

 9600 under ‘Bits per second’
 8 under ‘Data bits’
 None under ‘Parity’
 1 under ‘Stop bits’
 None under ‘Flow control’

When done, click ‘OK’ and you should be connected, through COM1, to the inverter.

5. Now enter several ‘X’ characters. If you do not see the ‘INVCPU>’ prompt, click the
picture of the Phone with the receiver off, then the one with the receiver on to reset
the communication port, and then try entering several ‘X’ characters again.

6. When closing HyperTerm, you will be asked if you want to save the session settings.
Choosing Yes will save your current HyperTerminal session settings. In the future,
you can start your communication session by simply clicking on the ‘ohv_truck.ht’
icon after accessing ‘Start Menu -> Program Files -> Accessories -> Communications
-> HyperTerminal’.
