CMR Law School (CMRLS), established in the year 2003, is an integral part of the CMR
Group of Institutions that strives to attract and facilitate the foray of enterprising, smart, and
intelligent young individuals into the legal profession. The Law School seeks to emphasise on
the integration of enterprising initiatives and creative programs in the curricular activity,
transcending conventional academic orientation so as to inculcate within each of its student,
a vibrant and more real outlook towards life and career.
Since its inception, CMR Law School has gone from strength to strength establishing itself as
one of the premier law schools in the country. The Week Magazine ranked CMR Law School
as the 2nd Best Private Law College in South India in their recently conducted survey of the
best colleges in India. CMR Law School has consistently been recognised as one of the Top
Law Schools in the country, consecutively from the past 6 years. CMR Law School organises
a Biennial National Level Moot Court and National Level Cross-Examination Competition
which has been by far the only one of its kind. The CMR Memorial Guest Lecture Series has
been successful in inviting distinguished legal luminaries including the present and former
Governors of Karnataka, judges of the Supreme Court and the High Courts, successful trial
and corporate lawyers from all over the world.
Our students have an excellent track record in academics consistently securing top ranks in
the examinations conducted by the Karnataka State Law University. In addition to
achievements in academics, our students also participate in various National and
International competitions including various National level Moot Court competitions, Debate
competitions and Model Parliament competitions where they have won laurels for themselves
and for the institution. The college also has several student-run clubs on campus for various
activities providing students multiple platforms to express themselves and excel in different
fields.
CMRLS has a dedicated cell to impart Pre-placement Training and Life Skills to the students.
Subject matter experts are brought in to train students on various aspects to groom them as
a thorough professional and to be industry ready. Every Student at CMRLS is trained to
become a full professional and a highly accomplished citizen. CMRLS constantly strives
towards encouraging each individual to go beyond themselves to choose a progressive path
towards knowledge, commitment and success.
CMRLS has made the transition from being affiliated to Karnataka State Law University to
being a constituent department under CMR University. The nascent institution hopes not only
to emulate our past deeds, but to progress further and reach greater heights in our eternal
quest for perfection. Apart from the 5 year integrated B.A. LL.B, B.B.A LL.B and 3 year LL.B
program, CMRUniversity, School of Legal Studies also offers 1 year LL.M program in
Constitutional Law and Commercial Law. Besides which there is also a 1 year Post Graduate
Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights and in Air and Space Law.

management studies, engineering, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, education, teacher
training, etc. CMR Law School (CMRLS) established in the year 2003 is an integral part of
the CMR Jnanadhara Trust. Currently in its fifteenth year, the law school has surpassed our
expectations and has come to be recognised as one of the best in the country.
Students at CMR Law School are exposed to a rigorous regimen of academic and co-
curricular activities besides being encouraged to participate in several extra-curricular
events. Apart from having provided them with one of the best environment in their academic
pursuits and having nurtured them for these past years, we seek to facilitate their foray into

Today, legal profession has become more challenging and has undergone an ocean of
change. The pivotal role of any legal education lies in shaping students to develop a healthy
mind equipped with aptitude for academic excellence to cater to the challenges of the
profession in a balanced and harmonious way. Keeping this goal in mind the CMR School of
Legal Studies has vibrant placement cell designed to meet the trends of fruitful cases in law.
The placement cell hopes to grow from strength to strength over a period of time. Its vision
is to help students to get placements of their choice on successful completion of the
course. The major task of the cell is to establish a link between the students’ fraternity and
the legal arena, coordinating and largely responsible for laying the foundation for students
who are in the threshold of their career. The placement cell works as a liaison between the
students and law firms, corporates, judges, executives, advocates and other interested
recruiters. It inter alia, would set a platform or pre-placement interviews to nurture and
polish the interpersonal skills of the student community.
The CMR National Moot Court Competition is one of the flagship events, seeking to
discover and nurture talented young law students by providing a platform to hone their
skills of research and advocacy. The current edition, was held on 5th ,6th and 7th of
October, 2018, wherein the event was inaugurated by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Shivraj V.
Patil, Judge (Retd.), Supreme Court of India. The competition witnessed a participation
of Law Schools from all over the country. The valedictory function was preceded by the
final rounds, wherein the Guests of Honour including Hon’ble Mr. Justice Budihal R.B,
Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka, the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice K.N.
Phaneendra, Judge, High Court of Karnataka, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Krishna S.
Dixit Judge, High Court of Karnataka, Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.M. Shyam Prasad, Judge,
High Court of Karnataka, and Sri. Udaya Holla, Advocate General of Karnataka, judged
the event.
MoU WITH NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIA UNIVERSITY
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Vice Chancellors of both CMR
University and National Law School of India University, seeking to foster an Academic
Collaboration that will encompass exchange of students and members of faculty between
the two parties as well as other academic activities, research and publication, in addition to
development of joint training and research programmes that will be pursued in a
collaborative spirit.
The one day Faculty orientation program aimed at the facilitation of updating the knowledge
and information amongst law teachers teaching Criminal Law, in colleges and schools of
law in and around Bangalore. Further the program contributed to the enhancement of the
teaching and learning methods besides enabling further research in the said area. The
lectures included “Constitutional foundation of criminal justice system under tension”, by
Prof. B. B. Pande, Senior Professor of Criminal Law, Former Professor, Delhi University and
Human Rights, Chair Professorship of the National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi.
“Collection of Digital Evidence in criminal trials”, by Shri. Pronab Mohanty, IPS, Deputy
Director General, UIDAI, New Delhi. “The Importance of victim compensation in the criminal
justice system” by Justice A. V. Chandrashekara, Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka
and Judicial Member, Karnataka Administrative Tribunal, Bangalore. “Teaching Criminal
Law” by Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Pune.
TRAINING PROGRAM ON MEDIATION ADVOCACY
CMR University, School of Legal Studies organised a training program by master trainers in
Mediation Advocacy, including Ms. Susheela Sarathi, Ms. Shoba Patil, and Adv. Vijay
Kumar, on 8th and 9th of September, 2018. The program was inaugurated by Hon’ble
Justice B.S. Patil, Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka and Hon’ble Justice A.V.
Chandrasekhara, Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka. The program aimed at imparting
the practical knowledge of Alternate Dispute Resolution Mechanisms, mainly Mediation.
Participants from various parts of Karnataka had participated in the program.
The event began with Prof. (Dr.) T.R. Subramanya, Dean School of Legal Studies,
welcoming the Chief Guest, and the gathering to the event. The Graduation day address
was delivered by the Chief Guest, Justice B.S. Patil, Hon’ble Judge, High Court of
Karnataka who also later awarded the certificates to the graduating batch. Justice L.
Srinivasa Reddy, Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka and Chairman, Governing
Council, CMR Group of Institutions, administered the oath to the graduates and Shri. K.C.
Ramamurthy, Chairman, CMR Group of Institutions, delivered the Presidential Address.
CMR NATIONAL SEMINAR, 2017
CMRLS hosted a National Seminar on the 30th of November 2017. The theme of the
Seminar was “Marking the Position of Women in the Criminal Justice System”. The selected
papers will be published in a special volume in the form of an edited book with ISBN
numbers. Authors of the selected papers were given the opportunity to present their papers
during sessions on the day of the Seminar. The event had a vivid participation of students,
research scholars and teachers from across the country. The Best Paper Award was shared
by two participants.
The inaugural edition of CMR Law School Asian Parliamentary Debate 2017 flagged off on
the 12th of April, 2017 and witnessed the participation of 22 teams from top colleges in the
city including NLSIU, Bishop Cottons, ULC and School of Law, Christ University. The core
adjudicators included Mr. Karthik, Mr. Nishanth S and Mr. Ashwij Ramaiah who are
experienced debaters and have established themselves as exemplary adjudicators in
various debate competitions. The day began with the briefing by the core adjudicators and
was followed by the demo debate simultaneously to which the adjudicators’ test was
conducted. Following this, the first two preliminary rounds were held until 5pm.
CMR MEMORIAL GUEST LECTURE SERIES
The CMR University, School of Legal Studies hosted the First CMR Memorial Guest Lecture,
for the Academic Year, 2018-19, by Dr. Lobsang Sangay. Hon’ble President of Central
Tibetan Administration (CTA), on the topic “India and Tibet: Ancient Roots to Modern
Times”. The lecture focused on the millennia old relationship that has been existing between
India and Tibet. Dr. Lobsang Sangay, narrated how the Indian subcontinent drifted across
the oceans from the African Continent and crashed into the Asian mainland thereby creating
the Himalayas. “India from then, have been pushing us to reach higher and higher”, he said.
Dr. Lobsang Sangay was given a traditional Tibetan welcome by Tibetan Students studying
law at the CMR University’s School of Legal Studies. He also interacted with all the students
and left them with inspiring words and great memories.
Dr. M.K. Nagaraj augmented our students on what is Narco analysis test, how the test is
conducted, what are the other different investigation methods. In his talk he discussed
about Traditional method– First degree method / Interrogation method rules, Second
degree method/Scientific method (Brain mapping test/p300 test, Polygraph test/Lie
detector test, Narco analysis test/Serum test, Third degree method etc), Constitutional and
legal aspects of Narco analysis test. He mentioned many landmark decisions relate to
execution and adoption of different testing methods. He educated our students about the
decriminalization of Narco analysis and its validity after 2010 judgement (Smt. Selvi & Ors. v.
State of Karnataka).
PROF. R.S DESHPANDE - ‘ON LEARNING ECONOMICS’
Deshpande, with his vast and varied experience enriched the students
on how to learn Economics. He stressed on practice of institutional
economics. He began the lecture with the basics of Economics subject
and went on to the practical aspects of how the Economics in practice
differ from country to country. His talk aided with lively illustrations
which not only kept his young audience engaged throughout but also
helped them grasp the importance of economics. He enlightened our
students about the bright-side of Managerial and institutional economics
and visualized different dimensions in this field.
Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Member of Parliament, had spoken to the students of CMR Law
School on 27th April 2018 regarding the economic conditions prevailing in India. He had
depicted a wider and more serious scenario with respect to the economic affairs of the
Country. He had also emphasised on the importance of environmental protection and
pollution control. Mr. Jairam also took time to answer questions from students and provided
an insight to various other topics as well.
CMR Law College organized a guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Sairam Bhat, Professor of Law,
NLSIU, Bengaluru on 10th May 2018. The landmark judgment in Justice K S
Puttaswamy (Retd.) v. Union of India, was analysed and discussed wherein the
aspects of possible infringement to privacy by government as well as other private
parties was illustrated. The judgment has rendered India to be the only country
in the world, where Privacy is a fundamental right, an intrinsic right
protected under Article 21 of the Constitution of India.
With her vast and varied experience, Adv. Susheela Sarathi enriched the students on the
various aspects of Mediation. She began the lecture with the very basics of what Mediation
is and went on into the practical aspects of how the Mediation proceedings are conducted.
Her interactive session aided with lively stories and live cases not only kept her young
audience engaged throughout but also helped them grasp the importance of Mediation as
an Alternate Dispute Resolution Mechanism.
CLUB ACTIVITIES
The cultural team of CMR University, School of Legal Studies commonly known as
“CYGNUS” aims to encourage student’s interest, participation, and responsibility in the
ingenious field through a medium of creative art and literary. The inventiveness is to provide
social, cultural and recreational activities for the college community. The Club provides
inspiration and opportunity to students to work on individual and group activities. The club

Also known by the name ‘Loquitur’, the Debate and MUN club of CMR University, School of
Legal Studies is dedicated to assist the students in inculcating analytical skills and help
them master the art of public speaking. It aims to catalyze the intellectual development of
the students through research into multi-faceted subjects cutting across several disciplines
outside the normal academic subjects enabling them to express their views with tact and
eloquence. The achievements of the club includes :

THE MOOT COURT CLUB
Moot Courts are an indispensable part of a legal education. Moot Courts help students gain
valuable experience in advocacy and research, which are a prerequisite in any advocate’s
repertoire. Moot Courts have always been a focus for the college from its inception, having
won numerous accolades in several moot court competitions across the country. The Moot
Court Club is committed to keeping with this tradition. The following are the achievements
of the Moot Court Club in 2017-18:

The Writing Desk Club of CMR Law School has been instrumental in enhancing the writing
skills of students especially by encouraging to write and publishing the same. The club
invites articles from students and provides for a platform for such articles in the form of a
newsletter named ‘CALAMUS’. The club has recently published ‘CALAMUS, 2018’.
SOCIAL IMPACT CLUB
The Social Impact Club is an undertaking by CMR University, School of Legal Studies to
help facilitate change in the society. The club facilitated the cycle rally hosted by
Greenpeace India in collaboration with several colleges across Bangalore. The club also
hosted the Blood Donation Camp co-organized by Lions Club International. The turnout
was unprecedented with 56 eligible donors. the club organised a Legal Aid Camp at
Electronic City and has recently been a part of the protest against the Bishop who was
accused in sexual harassment case.
THEATRE CLUB
The Theatre Club goes by the name ‘Tramedy'. It aims to promote the various activities of
theatrical artistry, knowledge and performances and instil confidence and a love for
performing among the students. The upcoming event by this club is the theatre fest,
Theatron 2019, where various colleges will come together to display their talents in
theatrics. Tramedy won first place in drama competition hosted by Karnataka State Law
University at their Annual Cultural Festival. The club also executed a street play in
Hyderabad.
SPORTS CLUB
‘Invictus arduis’ (Unconquered in difficulties) is the motto of the CMRLS Sports Club. The
club consists of a group of students who are aficionados of different sports but are united in
their pursuit of victory. The love for the sport, thrill of competition and the sweet taste of
success are the driving forces behind the club. The following are the achievements of the
Sports Club in 2017-18:
The Guest Lecture Club of CMR Law School is instrumental in organising guest lectures
from eminent personalities for the sole purpose of imparting inspiration and practical
knowledge of the skills and knowledge detrimental to succeeding in the career. The club
organizes several Seminars, Conferences and other academic programs, endeavouring to
bring to our students, the best legal minds in academia, government and industry. It is the
initiative to facilitate a vibrant and dynamic approach in spreading awareness about

After years of rigorous training and internship exposure, it is important that skills and
knowledge of our students are used efficiently. The task of ensuring this endeavor is taken
up by the Placement Cell. The Placement cell also take aim to convert internships into
prospective placements. The Placement Cell firstly screens the CVs and educates the
students on Resume writing as well as edifice the resumes by conducting workshops.
After which, the CV is verified and sent to the recruiters. During that interlude, the students
have to attend a training and skill development workshop. Increasingly, law firms and
chambers recruit applicants who have a portfolio of specific skills to equip them to
succeed in legal practice. When discussing with the graduate recruitment managers of
leading law firms about what they look for in desirable candidates, there are qualities that
come up over and over again.Placement cell also endeavors to provide such opportunities
to all batches of students, helping them to develop skills important for legal professionals
