Surface Area and Volume Hots Questions

This document contains 18 practice problems related to calculating volumes and surface areas of various 3D shapes such as spheres, cylinders, cones, hemispheres, and cuboids. The shapes and scenarios described in the problems involve determining lengths, radii, heights, times, ratios, and quantities based on given dimensional relationships and rates of change for the objects. The goal is to use formulas for surface area and volume to find unknown values about the dimensions and capacities of the 3D objects.

long will it take to half empty the tank if it is 1.5 meter in diameter

 )
2 The hollow sphere in which the circus motorcyclist performs his stunts, has a
diameter of 7 m, Find the area available to the motorcyclist for riding.

3) Two cones have their base radii in ratio of 3: 1 and the ratio of their heights as
1: 3. Find the ratio of their volumes.

4) The radius of a spherical balloon increases from 7 cm to 14 cm as air is being

pumped into it. Find the ratio of surface areas of the balloon in the two cases.

5) A storage tank is in the form of a cube. When it is full of water, the volume of the
water is 15.625m3. If the present depth of the water is 1.3 m, find the volume of
water already used from the tank.

6) A spherical cannonball, 28 cm in diameter is melted into a right circular conical

mould, the base of which is 35 cm in diameter. Find the height of the cone, correct to
one place of decimal.

7) Water flows in a tank 150m × 100m at the base through a pipe whose
cross-section is 2 dm × 1.5 dm at the speed of 15 km/h. In what time, will the water
be 3m deep?

8) A right angled triangle ABC with sides 3 cm, 4 cm and 5 cm is revolved about
the fixed side of 4 cm. Find the volume of the solid generated. Also, find the total
surface area of the solid.
