Case Studies - DFD

The document describes three different case studies for drawing level 1 data flow diagrams (DFDs): 1) A food ordering system where a customer can place an order, the order is processed, a bill is delivered, and the manager can generate reports and order inventory. 2) A vehicle repair system where buses come for repairs, a mechanic performs the repair, records the details, and accounting bills and inventory is monitored. 3) A railway customer service system where passengers can inquire about transport details stored in two databases - "Transport Details" and "Railway Live Statistics".

Draw DFD Level 1

A Customer can place an Order. The Order Food process receives the Order, forwards it to the Chef,
store it in the Order data store, and store the updated Inventory details in the Inventory data store.
The process also delivers a Bill to the Customer.

The Manager can receive Reports through the Generate Reports process, which takes Inventory
details and Orders as input from the Inventory and Order data store respectively.

The Manager can also initiate the Order Inventory process by providing Inventory order. The process
forwards the Inventory order to the Supplier and stores the updated Inventory details in the
Inventory data store.

Case Study 2
Draw DFD Level 1
Buses come to a garage for repairs. A mechanic and helper perform the repair, record the reason
and outcome for the repair and record the total cost (including labor cost) of all parts used on a
Shop Repair Order.
Information on labor, parts and repair outcome is used for billing by the Accounting Department,
parts monitoring done by the inventory manager and a performance review by the supervisor.
Case study 3
Consider a railway company's Customer Service System. Develop a DFD level 1 diagram for the
system. The system has its transport details (get form transport section) stored in two different
databases named as “Transport Details” and “Railway Live Statistic”. A Passenger can get
Transport details from those databases upon inquiry.
