B. SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS (I)

1) What are alphanumeric keys?


The alphanumeric keys refer to all the letters and numbers on the keyboard , i.e.
A-Z and 0-9. These keys are used for typing numbers, symbols and letters.

2) Write other names of Touch Typing.


The touch typing is a technique of pressing keys for typing text without
looking at the keyboard keys. This technique is also known as “touch type”,
“touch method” or “touch and type” method.

3) Define the home row of the keyboard.


The row which starts from the beginning of the CAPS LOCK KEY and
contains letters F , D , S , A and J , K , L , ; is called HOME ROW on the
keyboard.

4) Write the use of results window.


In the results window, you can review your overall skills, like your level
(Beginner or Introduction), words per minute (WPM), accuracy in percentage
and slow down.

5) What is the role of navigation tree in the lesson editor?


Navigation Tree includes the current keyboard layout choose, current course,
section and lesson.
C. SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS (II):
1. Define Touch Typing:
The touch typing is a technique of pressing keys for typing text without looking at
the keyboard keys. Touch typing improves the speed and the accuracy of a typist as
well as improves his work productivity, and where possible, reduces fatigue and
injury to the eyes.

2. What is Rapid Typing?


The Rapid Typing software is one of the popular typing software which helps us to
learn the concept of touch typing. By using rapid typing, you can learn typing
easily as well as check your own progress.

3) Write the steps to open Rapid Typing software on your computer?


Once you have downloaded and installed the rapid typing software, on your
computer you can start it by using the following steps:
 Click on the start button
 Click on the Rapid Typing 5 option. A submenu appears.
 Again, click on the Rapidtyping 5 option.
You can also open the rapid typing software directly by double clicking on its icon
if available on the desktop.

Q4) What is lesson editor? Why is it useful?


The lesson editor window allows you to customize lessons, i.e., you can add,
change, import/export and review each lesson’ statistics.

5) Why do you use the Statistics window?


In the statistics window, you can review your overall progress with the help of
graph and table. In this window, there are various sections under the Lesson
Statistics. You can get various types of statistics regarding the lessons by clicking
it. The statistics window displays results of all the lessons that you have already
completed.

D. Long answer question:


1. Write any five rules that a learner should keep in mind while learning
touch typing.
1) Hit keys with which they have been reserved.
2) Limit your hands and finger only to what is necessary to press a specific key.
3) Take your time while typing to avoid mistakes. The speed will pick up as you
progress.
4) Do not hammer on the keys. Always try to use minimum force possible.
5) To which between upper and lower case always use the opposite hand.

2. Write the steps to start a lesson in rapid typing software.


1) In the taskbar the first tab holds various levels.
2) In the taskbar the second tab contains various lessons categories. Specify the
lesson category as per your choice. The lessons category may vary as per your
level selection.
3) Now choose your lessons from the arrow mark on the lesson categories. The
lesson tab contains list of lessons you can choose any one as per your choice for
learning touch typing. For example, select a very first lesson f j d k.
4) You may choose Options button and choose. Background and text colour.

5) Now you can start typing text by pressings keys on the keyboard. To press
correct keys, put your fingers in the initial position.
6) Anytime during typing you can pause or resume the lesson and restart the lesson
by clicking on the corresponding buttons available in the main windows.

3) Define all levels of Rapid Typing Software in brief.

 The rapid typing software consists of three levels: Beginner, Advance and
Expert.
 In the beginner level the course helps to make the learner learn the position of
the keys in the keyboard. The course covers the use of special symbols, letter
and numbers.
 In the advance course the learner learn the words as well as syllables.
 In the expert level course the learner becomes perfect in the skills of typing the
actual text.

4) Write the steps to add a new course in the lesson editor.


To create a new course, choose layout
 Select course
 Click on the Create New Course button
 Enter name, course and type
 Press Enter
5) Define the use of any five (special) keys of the computer keyboard.
I) spacebar key-The spacebar key allows us to enter space between
two words.
II) Caps lock key-The caps lock is known as a toggle key. When
activated, causes all alphabetic characters to be uppercase.
III) Alt key- The Alt key is a helper key. This is also used in conjunctions
with other keys to produce control characters.
IV) Functional key- The functional keys are labeled fromF1 to F12.
These keys have different meaning depending upon which
program is running.
V) Esc key- The esc key is used to send special codes to the devices and
to exit (or escape) from programs and tasks.
