GUIDELINES/FORMAT FOR CONDUCTING SCIENCE QUIZ CONTEST


FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS DURING 2014-2015

The science quiz contest will be organised in two groups i.e. Group A (school affiliated
with CBSE/ICSE and Group B (school affiliated with Haryana School Education Board).

OBJECTIVES

 To create scientific temper.


 To create deep sense of curiosity.
 To create keenness to get to the root of a problem.
 Willingness to change on being convinced.
 Making learning of Science through fun and entertainment.

METHODOLOGY
DISTRICT LEVEL (Group A & B)
The district level science quiz contest will be organized separately for Group A & B by
the concerned DEO/DSS/ quiz master in their respective districts. DEO will fix the date of
(Group A & B) district level science quiz contest and inform the same to all the schools situated
in their district under intimation to this office. So that officer from this office will monitor the
quiz contest.
Each school is required to send a team constituted of three students. There should be one
team from each school. More than one team from any of the school will not be entertained.
DEO/DSS may ensure that each school of the district is informed for participation in district
level Science Quiz Contest. Students may be selected in such a way that they can cover
complete science spectrum (e.g. one or two students from non-medical side and rest from
medical side) and due representation may be given to girl students.
The District Education Officer (DEO)/District Science Specialist (DSS)/Quiz Master will
conduct written/screening test (objective type multiple choice) of all participating teams and
select best eight teams and conduct the oral quiz of these eight teams. The written/screening test
should include questions from Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology. Equal weightage may be
given to all subjects. There will be 100 questions in the screening test. One mark will be
awarded for each correct answer and 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. Best
eight teams will be selected for oral quiz. There will be four sets of rounds (except the last) each
round comprise sub rounds as under:-

The round at A, B & C are passing round if the team to whom the question is put does
not reply the question, it will be passed to the next team in the sequence and bonus marks of half
will be awarded to the team. Here, will be no negative marking.
Based upon the performance of oral quiz best five teams will be selected for participation
in the zonal science quiz.
List of selected teams at district level (i.e. best five teams) along with report of the
quiz may be sent to this office in prescribed proforma.

NOTE FOR GROUP ‘A’: Competition will be open to all the schools of the state affiliated
with CBSE & ICSE.

NOTE FOR GROUP ‘B’: Competition will be open to all the schools of the state affiliated
with Haryana School Education Board.

ZONAL LEVEL (Group A & B)

The Zonal level Science quiz contest will be organised by the Haryana State Council for
Science & Technology (HSCST) separately for Group A & B. District level winner team (i.e.
best five teams) in each group will participate in Zonal Level Quiz Contest.
Quiz Masters nominated by the HSCST will conduct the quiz at the four zones. Each
zone will comprise of district falling in each of the Divisional Headquarter (i.e. Ambala,
Gurgaon, Hisar & Rohtak). The zonal level quiz contest will be held at any of the district in the
division.
Initially HSCST will conduct a written/screening test of the teams selected at the district
level (i.e. best five teams from each district). Pattern of screening will remain same as that of
district level. After the screening test, best eight teams will be selected for participation in the
oral quiz contest. In the oral quiz there will be four sets of rounds (except the last) and each
round comprises sub-rounds as given under:-

After that best three teams will be given prizes and these teams will become eligible to
participate in the state level quiz competition.

STATE LEVEL (Group A & B)


The State Level Science Quiz Competition will be organised separately for group A & B
by the Haryana State Council for Science & Technology. Best three zonal level winner teams
from each zone (both A&B Group) will participate in the State Level Science Quiz Contest. In
this way there will be 12 teams from each group at the State level.
At the state level all the 12 teams will take part directly in the oral quiz and there will no
screening test at the state level contest under this programme.
In the oral quiz there will be four sets of rounds (except the last) each round comprises of sub-
rounds as under:-

ELIGIBILITY
 The competition is open to students studying in any of the school in Haryana State from
class 9th to 12th. For Group ‘A’ schools of CBSE & ICSE. For Group ‘B’ school
students of Haryana State Education Board.
 The Medium of quiz contest (written as well as activities, question round, visuals &
rapid fire questions) will be English language. However students can reply the question
in Hindi also.
PRIZES AND AWARDS (for Group A & B)
At District level no cash prize will be given to the winners, only certificates will be given to the
participants.
ZONAL LEVEL (Each zone) for each group
First Prize Rs. 20, 000/-
Second Prize Rs. 15,000/-
Third Prize Rs. 12,000/-
STATE LEVEL (FOR EACH GROUP)
First Prize Rs.60, 000/- (and a trophy for 1st prize winning school)
Second Prize Rs.50, 000/-
Third Prize Rs.40, 000/-
50% amount of the prize at State Level will be given to the concerned team and 50%
amount will be given to the concerned school for carrying out science promotional activities.
This amount may not be utilised for purchase of equipments/apparatus. The school will utilise
this amount for science popularisation activities within three months and send the report along
with utilisation certificate to this office.
NOTE : The prizes to the Zonal & state level winner teams will be given in the State
Level Function.
