Environment

The document discusses different types of pollution including air, water, and waste pollution. Air pollution is largely caused by vehicle exhaust which contains gases harmful to health and the environment. Water pollution results from chemical waste and oil spills which damage marine life. Waste is also an issue as landfills force wildlife migration and litter can contaminate soil.

ENVIRONMENT.

Not fighting pollution means digging one’s own grave. The claim is often made that
environmental pollution increases steadily. There are many reasons for that kind of
pollution and opportunities to avoid the destruction of the nature. Also we must not forget
the consequences of the pollution of our environment.
Firstly, the main part of air pollution is caused by the exhaust fumes of cars. These waste
gases contain carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide which are very harmful for our
environment because they can cause smog. Smog is a term of two words: "smoke" and
"fog". As a result of that urban areas are often covered by a cloud of smog in summer
days. People may get difficulties in breathing if they have troubles with their lungs or other
health problems. Moreover, the called gases contribute to the acid rain as well. Acid rain is
hazardous because it damages plants and forests and as a result of that it endangers our
biosphere, too.
Another consequence of pollution is the contamination of water. The chemical industry
often discharges toxic waste products into rivers and destroys the useful plants and
animals there. Furthermore, there are many oil tankers which spill oil into the sea and
damage the marine life. In addition, many people use detergents in their household. These
chemical substances harm our environment, too because they pollute the sewage and can
also cause the contamination of our drinking water.
It is necessary not to forget that waste is another problem for our nature. Many beneficial
animals are forced to migrate because of the human’s overpopulation and the increasing
landfills. Special incinerators are needed to burn man-made materials. But scrap often
spoils our nature because people throw it away instead of taking it to a suitable waste
management plant. Too much toxic or harmful litter can pollute our useful soil and
poisonous substances in our living space might cause a higher rate of infant mortality for
example.
All in all, we realize that our society is dependent on the environment. We should try to
avoid or to limit environmental pollution. If we do nothing, we will dig our own grave and
last but not least we will extinct like the dinosaurs. It is essential both to talk about it and to
do something about the destruction of our nature.
