Before we start today’s lesson, I just want to

remind you classroom rule. Yes ma’am.
 Observe silence when the teacher is
discussing.

Are we clear with the rule class?

B. Motivation

(PowerPoint Presentation) (Students listen attentively)

Lets divide the class into four groups. Form a

circle quietly with your group mates and write all
the answers I will ask as we go with the activity. Yes ma'am!
Are we clear?

Let’s play detective and try to find an important

tool that is crucial to solve the case of Maria Dela (All their attentions are in front. Listens

Maria is showing the following symptoms such as

diarrhea, cramps, and headaches. They went to a
doctor to consult about her health. Yes ma’am.

The findings state that the water contains a

microbe (E.coli) that caused Maria to vomit and
have a diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches. The
presence of coliform bacteria, specifically E. coli
(a type of coliform bacteria), in drinking water
suggests the water may contain pathogens that can
cause diarrhea, vomiting.

D. Analysis
What are your thoughts while doing the “4 PICS 1 Both the activities are all about microscope and
WORD” and “Playing detective” activities? the three major parts ma'am.

Do you think the microscope is useful? In what Yes ma'am, the microscope is useful.
ways are microscopes useful? It is used by doctors to identity the microbes
present in our food and water that causes a
disease just like in Maria's case.

It also a important tool in the laboratory for it is

used by doctors/scientists/researchers in their
study of life.
Very good!

Lets explore more on the compound microscope

and its parts and functions.
Presents PowerPoint. (Focuses on the PowerPoint presentation)

The word microscope is derived from the Greek

words mikros (small) and skopeo (look at) so
microscope is defined as a tool which can help you
see tiny objects and living organisms that cannot
be seen by our naked eye.

It is called compound microscope because… (Reads whats on the powerpoint presentation)

it uses two or more lenses to magnify the object.
A compound microscope is comprises of 3 major
parts according to function: magnifying,
illuminating and mechanical parts.

The magnifying parts makes the specimen in focus

larger.
Reads: Eye piece (ocular lens) is attached to a
Under the magnifying parts are the… draw tube
(Ask students to read and point the eye piece and Objective lenses- primary optical lenses on a
objective lenses.) microscope. (Then points the eye piece and
objective lenses part of the microscope in front)

The illuminating parts supply light and regulate

light towards the focus specimen. Mirror- used to reflect light from an external
light source up through the bottom of the stage.
_____please read the function of the mirror and (Points the mirror part of the microscope in
come in front to point where the mirror is located. front)

Iris diaphragm- controls the amount of light

reaching the specimen. ____kindly show your
classmate where is the iris diaphragm located. (Points the location of iris diaphragm in front)
The mechanical parts are used to support and
adjust other parts (serves as the framework of the
microscope).

Under the mechanical parts are the following:

Body tube- separates the objective and the eye

piece. _____will point where is the body tube (Went in front and shows where the body tube is
located. located)

Next are the two adjustment knobs …Coarse

adjustment knob allows the movement of the tube
upwards or downwards while the Fine adjustment
knob is used to bring the specimen into sharp focus
and is used for all focusing when using high power
lenses. Who wants to show where the adjustments
are located?

Yes_____. (_____points the two adjustments in front)

Next is the arm- it is the curve shape part that

supports the body tube, it is where we hold the (The student points where the arm is located in

front)

Inclination joint- connects the arm to the base,

helps incline the microscope for a more
comfortable viewing.

Revolving nose piece- holds the different objective

lenses and facilitates the changing of objective
lenses.

(Calls some one to point where the revolving nose

piece and inclination joint are) (______points the location of the revolving nose
piece and inclination joint are)
Stage- a flat surface where the mounted slide is
placed.

Stage clip- holds the glass slide in place.

Who wants to show in front where are the stage

and stage clips are? Yes _____. (_____went in front and shows the stage and
stage clip are located)
Base- provides support to the microscope.

And that’s the compound microscope parts and

their functions.

E. Abstraction

Lets see if you understood the discussion class.

It is a tool which can help you see tiny objects
How do we define a microscope again? and living organisms that cannot be seen by our
naked eye ma'am.

Very good!
Because it uses two or more lenses to magnify
But why does it called compound microscope? the object ma'am.

Correct!
Magnifying, illuminating and mechanical parts

A compound microscope is comprises of 3 major
parts according to functions, what are they?

I have here the parts of the microscope all you Yes ma'am.
have to do is place the it under the 3 major parts
according to its functions. Understood?

(Students place the parts under the three major

I need 2 students to place the parts under parts of the microscope according to its
magnifying, 10 volunteers in placing the parts functions.)
under mechanical and 3 students to work under
illuminating parts.

Very good! All the placements are correct.

So the compound microscope is a tool where tiny

objects and microorganisms are placed to study
and observe which cannot be seen by the naked
eye. And it has 3 major parts according to its
function: the magnifying, mechanical and
illuminating parts.
Yes ma’am.
Understood class?

F. Application

If there is no more question. Create a circle with

your group a while ago and lets have one last (Quietly forming their circle)
activity. This activity is only for 8-10 minutes.

Each group will be given a envelop containing a

situation of using microscope according to their
job title and you must write a brief explanation on
how the microscopes are utilized/used in their field
of work then you are to present your output in
front . I’ll give a corresponding point according to
your outputs content and delivery.
Yes ma’am.
Are the instructions clear?

(Proceeds to the activity)

Time is up. Group 1 will present their output first

followed by group 2, 3, and 4.

our field of work. It is the main tool that we used
when we are to test a new product and other
discoveries.)

MedTech Group (It is almost impossible to

identify certain blood diseases and cellular
ailments without a microscope. Microscopes
help observe how foreign bodies attack cells and
how cells counteract them)

Forensic Group (The microscope is used by

forensic scientists to locate, isolate, identify, and
compare samples. Because of its low
magnification, wide field of view/ large working
distance is used for preliminary evidence
evaluations.)

Doctor Group (Microscopy plays a vital role in

developing new and advanced medicines.
Pharmaceutical research and development rely
heavily on microscopy, especially in identifying
and investigating pharmaceutical material
quality and reliability. )

Good job everyone!

IV. Evaluation
