THE ESSENCE
OF
MASCULINITY
Physical Strength & Speed: “It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing
the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”~Socrates.
It is absolutely essential as a man to experience physical power sheer strength.
After all, men have been exclusively awarded with the untapped potential of
pushing their body to insane limits by the almighty and to simply waste this gift
throughout lifetime is a shame.
Dominance and Courage: To be dominant & having the courage to lead is also
important. Men are not meant to be submissive, but instead have the courage to
disagree and shape the way society is structured.
Without a doubt, there are many moments that make men feel weak and defeated.
However glorifying weakness and considering it as “OK” is absolutely criminal.
-Men that are physically tough, men who have the potential to defend themselves if
needed, men who are extremely competitive are deemed as toxically masculine.
-In fact, the baseline for the declaration of the term “toxic masculinity” is if
someone says “Be a Man”, a phrase which was quite strongly used to inspire
young males not more than 30 years ago.
-The reason why the whole idea of “toxic masculinity” is complete garbage is
because firstly, it is a first world problem and secondly, in a situation of survival
the entirety of this idea gets thrown out the window as men and women revert back
to their innate gender roles.
-In today’s world, men are shamed to become masculine and true to their natural
instinct as a man, something which is considered as criminal by many.
-It is popularly known that men are under pressure due to toxic masculinity.
This again is completely false.
It has been scientifically proven that men who stay close to their emotions, glorify
weakness and stay away from progress and growth are more likely to be depressed
and suicide than men who work hard and have a positive attitude towards life.
-Dr Jordan B. Peterson also pointed out on another discussion with a woman and
asked her to define the ambiguous phrase “Toxic Masculinity”, which she was
unable to find any content on to which he concluded that the utterance of “Toxic
Masculinity” did not have a meaningful phrase because it was extremely difficult
to define it hence showing the inaccuracy and ambiguity of the phrase.
The Rise of Weak Men:
“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create
weak men and weak men create hard times”.~G. Miachel Hopf
In today’s ironically “progressive” modern times, the progress in men’s mental &
physical health is definitely not in the best condition. In fact, it could be argued
that men today are weaker than ever before.
“1944 a man’s man was storming the beaches of Normandy and knew
most of them were going to lose their lives yet they did it because that is
what men are supposed to do, Today people are storming the beaches of
their couch to play Call Of Duty. 40,50 years ago without social media,
we had to go learn how to pick up girls and flirt and have lines and be
rejected, Today you just have to swipe right.
Years ago you had to learn how to hunt to get your food, Today you just
call UberEats. Lot’s changed”.
A survey was done consisting of 1800 lifters aging from 20-39 to see what the
average bench press, squat and grip strength was 30years ago vs Today:
TABLE:
Bench Press: The average man 30years ago was 110kg to 85kg today.
Squat: The average man 30years ago was 125kg to 100kg today.
Grip Strength: The average man 30years ago was 53kg to 44kg today.
The following study carried out clearly indicated that there was a dangerously
significant decrease in male strength of young healthy males.
-Another study stated that there has been a significant decrease of testosterone of
roughly 1% every year since 1950!
Testosterone, an essential growth hormone in males that is supposed to be in
abundance has been proven to decrease overtime which is not due to advancing
age.
A 65-year-old man in 2002 would have testosterone levels 15 percent lower than
those of a 65-year-old in 1987.
Low testosterone makes it extremely easy for a man to be obese, depressed and
even suicidal.
It is a well established fact that our biology lends to our mentality.
And there are perhaps thousands of studies proving that men have degraded in their
mental health.
Men today hence are weaker slower and less intelligent and have degraded both
mentally and physically.
Many of us find it extremely surprising that weak men are exponentially more
dangerous than strong men.
The whole idea of weakening men so they no longer remain a threat is critically
arguable. Men who have no emotional control and when men are taught to stay in
touch & react to their emotions result in crimes such as school shootings, rapes,
violence, suicide etc.
The rise of weak men in society is absolutely catastrophic which is proven
statistically.
According to varied rigorously refined studies including the one by Scott Galloway
the following was observed:
-Men are more likely to use almost all types of illicit drugs than women.
-93% of prison inmates are male.
-98% of death row inmates are male.
-Men are more likely to be homeless.
-Men now account for 41% of college enrollments down from 60% in 1970.
-Men are twice as likely to overdose.
-Men are three times likely to commit suicide.
-Men are nine time more likely to be incarcerated.
-Nine out of ten mass violent attackers were male & most of them were under the
age of 35.
The following data proves that the most dangerous person in the world is a broke
and alone, young male.
Causes of the Decline in Masculinity:
Health: Poor diet and lack of sleep is probably one of the major factors why men
have become weak. In the easy modern times we live in, having no self control
allows people to eat whatever they feel like instead of being healthy causing poor
physical health in the long term and an abundance of diseases in early ages.
Obesity: “It is okay being fat” has got to be the most destructive, ignorant and
harmful statement that we now get to hear quite frequently which somehow is
supposed to be justified by empathy and care. However, it is proven that unhealthy
men are more likely to suffer from depression who even consider suicide therefore
ruining their life in the long term.
“How many endless videos can we see with women in their sixties who bought into
the feminist movement to make men and women equal are sitting their saying,”I
regret making that decision because I’, single, never been married, don’t have any
kids and I’m alone.””
In fact, many popular early second wave feminist leaders like Betty Friedan, Simon
de Boviour etc said things like: “I mourn for my unborn children”.
Student’s Reflection:
After witnessing the vast dynamic history of hip–hop, from its rise and fall, its
positives and negatives, its old and new eras as well its purpose as the years
progressed, I have made a conclusive understanding of the whole topic of racism in
Hip – Hop.
Putting this forward, I do not believe any side to be blamed here, rather it is due to
mistakes and problems on both sides of the map, the blacks, and the whites.
The hostility that whites had towards the blacks is pretty self-explanatory since it is
the textbook definition of racism and was as old as time itself, beginning from the
era of slavery in the 15th Century to this day and age, with blacks being
discriminated on the daily basis by being denied fundamental rights and facing
incessant brutality. This was the thing that lead to the birth of the genre of Hip –
Hop and rap music, with its main purpose being airing out social injustice.
On the other hand, the hostility that blacks had towards the white rappers was
interesting, even though it was hypocritical, it was understandable. As white
rappers were yet another colonizers in the eyes of blacks as their very own precious
music form was utilized by the ones that dominated them for centuries, thus, most
people felt that emergence of white rappers would lead to adulteration or even
takeover, thereby, taking their only prominent form of expression.
In conclusion to this extensive research as well as the documentary, the diversity in
hip–hop is prevalent now and it has reached new heights by becoming a medium of
expression for everyone having a troubled life, maybe even saving them in a way.
This is best summarized by Eminem in his song ‘Sing For The Moment’ in his
verse
