PREVENTATIVE MEASURES:

Respiratory Protection
At concentrations up to 50 ppm, chemical charge respirator or air-purifying respirator is
recommended. Above this level, a self-contained breathing apparatus is required.
Skin Protection
Impervious gloves, body suits, boots, and other resistant protective clothing (rubber or PVC).
Wash contaminated clothing with soap and water and dry before reuse.
Eye/Face Protection
Chemical goggles or safety glasses are to be worn at all times when product is handled.
Contact lenses should not be worn; they may contribute to severe eye injury.
Special Handling Procedures
Avoid adding water to this acid. Slowly add acid to water to prevent spattering or boiling.
Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid situations that could lead to harmful exposure.
Storage Requirements
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed, and away from
incompatible materials.
Engineering Controls
Handling should be done in closed ventilation systems, to reduce vapour to permissible
levels.

FIRST AID MEASURES:

Inhalation
Remove victim to fresh air. Give artificial respiration only if breathing has stopped. If
breathing becomes rapid & bubbly, give oxygen. Seek immediate medical attention.
Skin Contact
Remove contaminated clothing. Irrigate affected area with water for at least 20 minutes. Seek
immediate medical attention.
Eye Contact
Flush immediately with water for at least 20 minutes. Forcibly hold eyelids apart to ensure
complete irrigation of eye tissue. Seek immediate medical attention.
Ingestion
Do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, lean victim forward to prevent breathing in
vomitus. Rinse mouth out with water. If the victim can swallow, give 1 cup of water or milk
to dilute. If vomiting occurs, rinse the mouth out and give another cup of water. Do not give
anything by mouth to an unconscious or convulsing person. Seek immediate medical
attention.
Other Information
None

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DATA:

Steps in the Event of a Leak or Spill

Only persons wearing PPE should be allowed to enter leak areas. Ventilate area. Vapours
from spills can be knocked down with water fog. Small spills can be neutralized with soda
ash or lime. (Releases carbon dioxide, be careful). Dilute large spills and recover.
Environmental Effects
Extremely toxic to aquatic life by lowering the pH below 5.5
Deactivating Chemicals
Soda ash, lime, limestone.
Waste Disposal Methods
Dispose in accordance with all federal, provincial, and local regulations.

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES
CALL A PHYSICIAN.
IF SWALLOWED, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING; IF CONSCIOUS, GIVE WATER, MILK, OR
MILK OF MAGNESIA.
IF INHALED, REMOVE TO FRESH AIR. IF NOT BREATHING, GIVE ARTIFICIAL
RESPIRATION. IF BREATHING IS DIFFICULT, GIVE OXYGEN.
IN CASE OF CONTACT, IMMEDIATELY FLUSH EYES OR SKIN WITH PLENTY OF WATER FOR
AT LEAST 15 MINUTES WHILE REMOVING CONTAMINATED CLOTHING AND SHOES.
WASH CLOTHING BEFORE RE-USE.

7 - SPILL AND DISPOSAL PROCEDURES
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN THE EVENT OF A SPILL OR DISCHARGE
WEAR SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS AND FULL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. STOP
LEAK IF YOU CAN DO SO WITHOUT RISK. VENTILATE AREA. NEUTRALIZE SPILL WITH
SODA ASH OR LIME. WITH CLEAN SHOVEL, CAREFULLY PLACE MATERIAL INTO CLEAN,
DRY CONTAINER AND COVER; REMOVE FROM AREA. FLUSH SPILL AREA WITH WATER.
J. T. BAKER NEUTRASORB(R) OR NEUTRASOL(R) "LOW NA+" ACID NEUTRALIZERS
ARE RECOMMENDED FOR SPILLS OF THIS PRODUCT.
DISPOSAL PROCEDURE
DISPOSE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL
ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS.

VENTILATION: USE GENERAL OR LOCAL EXHAUST VENTILATION TO MEET
TLV REQUIREMENTS.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: RESPIRATORY PROTECTION REQUIRED IF AIRBORNE
CONCENTRATION EXCEEDS TLV. AT CONCENTRATIONS UP
TO 100 PPM, A CHEMICAL CARTRIDGE RESPIRATOR WITH
ACID CARTRIDGE IS RECOMMENDED. ABOVE THIS LEVEL,
A SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS IS ADVISED.
EYE/SKIN PROTECTION: SAFETY GOGGLES AND FACE SHIELD, UNIFORM,
PROTECTIVE SUIT, ACID-RESISTANT GLOVES ARE
RECOMMENDED.
