We Need Sandwiches for Donation

Mt 22:34-40 On Tuesday, August 16th we will deliver sandwiches made at home by paSaturday rishioners to St. Josephs Social Service Center. The sandwiches are used in Ru 2:1-3, 8-11; 4:13-17; various community outreach programs. Here is how you can help: Buy a loaf of any kind of bread. Turn the loaf of bread into sandwiches by using your choice of sandwich fillings (e.g., any type of cold cuts, peanut butter & jelly, etc. You can put a little mustard or butter on the bread but no mayo, please!). Put each sandwich into a baggie. Return the wrapped sandwiches to the loaf wrapper and close it up. Tape a piece of paper to the loaf wrapper telling the kind of sandwiches you have made Bring the sandwiches to Our Lady of Peace on the Tuesday morning: From 7:00 am to 8:45 am, sandwiches can be left in the vestibule of the church on the side closest to the Rectory. From 9:00 am to 9:30 am, sandwiches should be brought to the lobby of the Parish Hall. At 9:30 am, we leave to deliver sandwiches to St. Josephs! Thank you!

Food Pantry Items of the Week


Our Food Pantry is in need of tuna fish, Spam, canned fruit, sugar, cake mixes and icing, laundry and dish detergents, deodorant and Kleenex. The donations that you make to our pantry are appreciated more then you can ever realize. Families are feed because of your generosity and they are able to maintain their dignity as children of God.

Support Groups for Parents Grieving the Death of a Child


The Office of Family Life Ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark sponsors two support groups for Parents Grieving the Death of a Child. Groups meet year round on the first Wednesday of each month at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish Center, 60 Boyd Ave., Bloomfield and on the third Monday of each month at St. Peter the Apostle Parish Center, 445 Fifth Ave. River Edge. There is no preregistration and there is no fee.

Shop for a Cause

The Womans Club of New Providence of the GPWC is selling tickets for Macys Shop for a Cause during the month August for 8:30 a.m. until noon, Fridays and Saturdays, in the Adams Shopping Center in New Providence or contact a member of the Womans Club. The day to shop is Saturday, August 27, 2011 at ANY Macys store. The cost of a ticket is $5 and entitles the purchaser to special discounts on that day. From the Catechetical Office


The Catechetical Office will officially reopen on Monday, August 15th. The Catechetical Office is located in the Rectory Office Hours: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily.

Our Lady of Peace parish also offers religious education for kindergarten aged children at a reduced fee. Kindergarten classes are not required but parents often want their children to begin classes at this age. Please call the Catechetical Office at 908-464-8156 for information.

Do you have a love for our Catholic faith and enjoy interacting with children or young people?
Consider becoming a catechist and sharing your faith with the children of our parish. The benefits are out of this world! And it just may be one of the most rewarding things you have done. We provide training and support and you become a part of a great team of wonderful men and women. We keep class sized between 8 and 12 students. All children and youth should now be registered for fall classes.
All Catholic children attending public schools should attend religious education classes so that they may be well grounded in our faith and be prepared for the sacraments. Class placements are on a first come basis and some grades on specific days are now filled.

If you have not already re-registered your child please do so before August 31 when late fees are effective. The Womans Club of New Providence is again collecting school supplies for the less fortunate. All donated items will go the New Jersey Food Bank for distribution. The collection site will be the New Providence Memorial Library during the month of August. Items needed are: backpacks, pads, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, etc. Many retailers are offering school supplies at a lower than normal price. All supplies will be gratefully accepted. Thank you in advance for helping.
