The KMK MFM pipeline project involved upgrading the SCADA system for Pakistan's largest pipeline network spanning 1500 km from Karachi to Macchike. The $4 million upgrade project extracted the old pipeline system and installed a new one without interrupting operations over 2006-2008. It addressed non-uniformities in the pipeline control and measurement systems installed over decades by upgrading outdated equipment and implementing new measurement and control techniques.

KMK MFM Oil Pipeline Project Description
ENGINEERING AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT The KMK MFM pipeline covers 1500 km from Karachi to Macchike and is Pakistan’s largest pipeline network. The pipeline is managed by 131 Remote Telemetry Unit stations, 11 pumping systems, and PARCO required a system revamp to improve performance. This required extracting the old pipeline system and installing a new one without interrupting running operations.
Location ● Spanning Sindh and Punjab, Pakistan
Client PARCO
Date The SCADA system upgrade was a geographical
challenge because of the scattered nature of the 2006 - 2008 systems. The current system was studied, Project Cost evaluated, and a new system was installed according to the faults found. The systems were 4 million USD not uniform along the length of the pipeline, as Services they were installed over the course of many decades. The system had to be brought to ● Dismantling, rewiring, and relocation of uniformity through upgrades of all outdated control panels equipment and measurement and controlling ● Development and supervision of site data gathering techniques. ● Development of system functional design The multiple delivery points and storages had to specifications (FDS) be evaluated to maintain inventory balance, and ● Development of hot cutover methodology correct mass discrepancies at both ends. ● Supervision of system integration & panel building ● Development of Factory Acceptance Test ● Supervision of system deployment at site ● Supervision of site acceptance testing (SAT)
