Ebp Project Self Evaluation-2

Savanna Bryson completed a self-evaluation for her work on an EBP project with her group. She rated herself highly in all areas of participation and contribution to the group project. In her evaluation, she discussed what she learned, including how to conduct research and stay up to date on new evidence. She felt her group worked well together and evenly distributed work, though she wished they had spent more time working as a group on the poster. Overall, she believed the project was a fun way to learn about research and their topic of exercise for cancer patients. In addressing the course outcomes, Savanna explained how the project helped her develop skills in searching literature, appraising levels of evidence, and incorporating new practices, as well as the

EBP Project Self Evaluation

NURS 3650 EBP & Research Methods

NAME: Savanna Bryson

Group Name: Kylee, Taya, Emma, Lilly, Nikki, and Savanna

Please assess the work that you contributed to the EBP Project (poster and
presentation of findings). I will consider your evaluation in assignment an
individual grade for the assessment. Please be as honest as possible. (If
you rate yourself high, while there were evaluations from your group that
speak otherwise, I will consider that you did not evaluate yourself fairly and
will be assigning a grade to your individual grade for your EBP Project
accordingly, in addition to the separate grading that will commence from
your peers’ evaluation of your work.)
At the end of this worksheet, please discuss how you met the course
outcomes.
5 = Excellent work; was crucial component to group’s success
4 = Very strong work; contributed significantly to group
3 = Sufficient effort; contributed adequately to group
2 = Insufficient effort; met minimal standards of group
1 – Little or weak effort; was detrimental to group, or perhaps did very little
to contribute

What did you learn from the experience?
This experience taught me a lot about nursing research. It showed me how
accessible new research is and how easy it is to stay up to date on the
newest evidenced based practice. It taught me a lot more about our
research topic and effective ways to help treat cancer patients. It also
taught me more about working with groups and how to organize time
effectively.

What do you think went well?

Me and my group worked well together, we all put in equal amounts of work
and the project got done effectively.

What would you have done differently, given the opportunity?

Next time, I would have had more communication between group members
and spent more time as a group working on the poster. We spent a lot of
time individually working on it and it made it more difficult for us to
communicate our ideas for the poster.

Do you have any other comments about the overall EBP project (poster
and presentation of findings)?
It was a fun project and taught me a lot about research and exercise!

Using the course learning outcomes below (these are also posted in
modules and on syllabus), please address how you attained each outcome
during your individual and group learning opportunities. Feel free to use
additional space by utilizing this Word document to expand.
Course Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic elements of the research process,

differentiate questions and methods suitable for quantitative and qualitative nursing
research, and apply strategies and resources to promote evidence-based practice,
especially in areas of quality and safety.

Student Self-Evaluation: Doing research for the project helped me to attain this
outcome. I had to learn how to properly search scientific journals and use Boolean
operators to narrow down my search. I then had to determine what kind of sources I was
finding and if they were relevant to the topic I was researching.

2. Make clinical decisions based on appraisal of the evidence, patient preferences, and
clinical expertise.

Student Self-Evaluation: By doing this research project specifically, I will be better able
to support any cancer patients I care for and help them maintain a healthy lifestyle. In
general, this class taught me how to find evidence-based articles and incorporate new
techniques into my clinical practice.

3. Use information technology to retrieve hierarchical levels of evidence and evaluate

the credibility of sources of information, including but not limited to databases and
internet resources to address clinical questions.

Student Self-Evaluation: This research project taught me how to determine whether or

not a source was credible since we had to use top levels of evidence like randomized
control trials for our project.

4. Discuss the role of evidence-based practice in organizational and systems leadership

to support quality patient care and apply principles of evidence-based practice with
diverse populations across the lifespan.

Student Self-Evaluation: Evidence based practice is extremely important in all

organizations involving healthcare. I have a good understanding on the importance of
continuing education and research in order to provide the newest, most beneficial
treatments for patients.

5. Identify practice discrepancies between identified standards and practice that may
adversely impact patient outcomes and utilize the process of retrieval, appraisal, and

synthesis of evidence in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team to
improve patient outcomes.

Student Self-Evaluation: I feel I have a good understanding of the principle that research
does not prove anything, which is why it is important to continue research. Even though
standards of practice may seem like they are doing good, it is always better to continue
to improve and fix issues in healthcare treatment to provide better care to patients.
