CHAPTER III

Methodology

Research Design

Qualitative research is done to comprehend how individuals see their surroundings. Although

there are numerous ways to qualitative research, most of them are adaptable and put a strong

emphasis on preserving rich meaning when analyzing the data.

A qualitative research strategy called "phenomenological research" aims to comprehend and

characterize a phenomenon's fundamental elements. The method examines human

experiences in daily life while suspending the researchers' previous notions regarding the issue.

Phenomenology aids in our comprehension of the significance of people's actual experiences.

In a phenomenological investigation, the focus is on how people saw a phenomenon and what

they actually went through. Since phenomenology has a solid philosophical background, it is

advised that you read the works of influential philosophers like Husserl, Heidegger, Sartre, and

Merleau-Ponty before starting your research.

Particularly successful at challenging structural or normative presumptions, phenomenological

approaches bring to the fore the experiences and perceptions of individuals from their own

perspectives.

*One of the most popular approaches for qualitative research in the social and health sciences

is what is now known as descriptive phenomenology.

*used to explain how people experience a particular situation. What is the nature of this

experience, the researcher enquires? What is the meaning of this experience? or "How does

the participant perceive this "lived experience"?" ’

*attempts to put prejudices and previous ideas about people's experiences, emotions, and

reactions to a certain scenario aside.

The goal of qualitative research is to gain a thorough understanding of social phenomena

in their natural environment. It relies on the first-hand experiences of people as the

meaning-making agents in their daily lives and emphasizes the "why" rather than the

"what" of social phenomena.

Sources of Data

The respondents of the study are composed of 12 Senior High School students.

Population of the Study

Senior High School Students around Vigan City are broad that is why the researchers

selected only 12 Senior High School Students for the data and information gathered. The number

of respondents you need depends on your survey goals and how confident you want to be in your

results. The more confident you want to be, the less of a margin of error you should accept.

Statistical treatment of Data

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) that was first reported at the end of 2019 has

impacted almost every aspect of life as we know it. This paper focuses on the incidence of the

disease in Italy and Spain—two of the first and most affected European countries. Using two

simple mathematical epidemiological models—the Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered model and

the log-linear regression model, we model the daily and cumulative incidence of COVID-19 in

the two countries during the early stage of the outbreak, and compute estimates for basic

measures of the infectiousness of the disease including the basic reproduction number, growth

rate, and doubling time. Estimates of the basic reproduction number were found to be larger than
1 in both countries, with values being between 2 and 3 for Italy, and 2.5 and 4 for Spain.

Statistically speaking, the 80% among the students says that pandemic affected their studies

which is the transition from face to face to online class is difficult to adapt while the 20% among

the students is that he can manage to adapt this kind of learning method.

Ethical Consideration

From resource allocation and priority-setting, physical distancing, public health

surveillance, health-care worker's rights and obligations to conduct of clinical trials, the COVID-

19 pandemic presents serious ethical challenges. These in turn are complicated by the diverse

health systems and unique cultural and socio-economic contexts of countries. Consequently,

there is a great need for guidance to ensure ethical conduct of research, decision making in

clinical care, and public health policymaking at every level of the global COVID-19

response. This research study was made for educational purposes only. The researchers chose All

the Senior High School students of Ilocos Sur and each is interview regarding the mental state

that they are on, they were fully informed that the data gathered and used in this research will be

protected and will have an adequate level of confidentiality. Anonymity of the respondents and

informants in this research was also ensured and the use of offensive words and bad language

was avoided in the formulation of the questionnaire and interview questions. This study was run

through a plagiarism check to make sure that the research was not copied or taken from another

researcher’s work. Lastly, after the colloquium all the evidences used would be destroyed and

will not be used for other purposes.

Dear Interviewee,
This ensures that all of your remarks are correct and nothing is wrong because we

use your opinion as a source of knowledge for our research. Please note that in this study we are

not going to make it difficult for you and other respondents.
