Electrostatic precipitators:
Filters that apply charges to particles in the air, then attract those charges to a filter,
removing them from the airstream.
Ink jet printer:
Small ink droplets sprayed with an electric charge are controlled by electrostatic plates to
create images on paper.
Photoconductor:
Substance that is an insulator until it is exposed to light, when it becomes a conductor.
Van de Graff generator:
Machine that produces a large amount of excess charge, used for experiments with high
voltage.
Xerography:
Dry copying process based on electrostatics.
The devices used in solid-state electronics are based on electrostatics. These include resistors,
capacitors, and active devices such as bipolar and field effect transistors, which are based on
control of electron motion by electrostatic fields.
MAGNETO-STATIC FIELDS:
A magneto-static field is produced by a constant current flow (or direct current). This current
flow may be due to magnetization currents as in permanent magnets, electron-beam currents as
in vacuum tubes, or conduction currents as in current-carrying wires.
MRI:
The scan uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to generate images of parts of
the body that can't be seen as well with X-rays, CT scans or ultrasound
Linear and rotational actuators:
converts the linear motion to rotary motion by utilizing ball bearings that travel down
inclined raceways
MEMS:
convert the electrical energy to mechanical energy by employing a principle of Lorenz force
equation
Magnetic bearings:
bearing that supports a load using magnetic levitation. Magnetic bearings support moving parts
without physical contact
ELECTROMAGNETISM:
The magnetic fields produced by electromagnets used for special functioning of the devices
Electric fans:
Electric fans blowers and other cooling systems use electric motors. These motors work on the
principle of electromagnetic induction which is the branch of electromagnetism.
Alarming systems:
Use electrical bells which works based on electromagnetic principle. In these bells, the sound is
produced by electromagnetic coils which move the striker against the bell. As long as the coil is
energized, iron striker gets attracted by it, hence it strikes the bell.
Security systems:
use locking systems for doors which are generally magnetic locking systems. These systems are
unlocked either by a magnetic card swiping or having a security code.
Magnetic card reader:
on the doors reads the number of keys stored in the magnetic tape of the card. When key stored
in memory matches with data on the card, then the door opens.
