Memoir #1

The narrator broke their right arm while bike riding with their mom. They lost control of their bike when the steering wheel fell off as they were going down a hill. They fell and lost consciousness, waking up in severe pain with their arm visibly displaced. They were taken to the hospital where a doctor confirmed a bone fracture and had to manually reset the displaced bones, putting the narrator's arm in a plaster cast. It took several weeks to recover, making everyday tasks difficult since their right arm was dominant. Four weeks into recovery, school switched to online which made note-taking easier. After a month, the cast was removed and full recovery of movement took a few more days.

Memoir #1

Since I was 6 I was always passionate about getting a cat. When I heard that my
mom has an allergy to animal fur and that it will be impossible to get a cat, and my
dad hated cats I was heartbroken. I cried. I believed I will never get a cat. One day in
February 2019, my mom agreed on a hamster however, my grandma said that
maybe we should get a short-haired cat that wouldn't affect my mom that much.
Without consulting my dad, we decided to buy a cat.
On the 25th of February 2019, my mom took me to an unknown house where the cat
lived. It was somewhere outside of Warsaw, so the ride was quite long. Of course, I
had to choose a purebred cat that wouldn't affect my mom's allergy. She told me I'm
going to get a devon rex - it's a tall-eared, short-haired breed. The breed also
characterizes because of its size - which is very little. I got kind of worried when my
mom told me it would be short-haired. I thought the kitten wouldn't be soft. when
we arrived at the house, the owner welcomed us kindly. She was a middle-aged
woman married to a younger man along with three children. The house was small
but cozy. She had lots of cats, which were mostly devon-rexes and some of them
were siblings of the cat I was getting. A few of them were tiny since they were
probably only a few weeks old. The cat I was getting was born on the 1st of
December 2018. It was the most adorable cat I've ever seen. it had short dark grey,
almost black hair on the body, white paws which looked like cute little socks, a
white belly, and some white spots on the face. Instead of a not-so-nice fur, the fur
was sleek and fluffy in touch. During the visit, we got all the information about the
cat like its allies and needs.
When I got home, I was still excited about getting a kitten however, my mom told me
I would get it in a month since the cat was still too small in addition, the payment
would take longer to proceed. I started looking for stuff for the cat, like a litter box,
scratching post, and toys. I even remember dreaming every day about getting that
kitten.
On the morning of March 23rd, 2019, the time to get my kitten came. We drove with
my sister and my mom to the same house as we did before. The cat was frightened
of us when we took her away from her house. It was meowing the whole ride and I
tried to comfort it. When we got home, we had to decide on a name. Its name given
by the owner was "cami", however, my sister's name is Kamila, and my mom
sometimes called my sister by that, so we decided to change the kitten's name. After
a long time of arguing, we decided to choose "Mimi". I love my kitten and I play with
her and take care of her every day. Getting a cat was one of the best decisions in my
life.
Memoir #2

On the 10th of September 2020, at about 5 p.m. I went on a pleasant bike ride with
my mom. Our destination was a nice garden kind of far away from our home. First,
the ride started well. We had a fun time because it was sunny, and we were riding
fast so it was followed by a nice breeze. Soon we stopped by a restaurant to get
dinner. I got some bread and a sausage, my mom got some type of stew. The place
was an outdoor picnic with an open grill and pretty scenery around it. There were a
lot of various species of trees and bushes around the picnic.
When we finished, we continued our ride. It started to get a bit colder, however, I
did not mind. We rode for a while. I saw that the road was going down, so I decided
to speed up.
Suddenly, the steering wheel fell off. I completely lost control of the bike. I felt
stressed at that moment because I was riding very quickly. I fell and lost
consciousness for a short period of time. I felt so much pain it is hard to describe. I
was crying in so much pain. My right arm hurt the most - no surprise since it was
broken. I had a displaced bone fracture. I could tell it was really bad just by looking
at it. Near my wrist, there was a triangle shape made out of the bones in my right
arm. I was terrified. Not only did it hurt so bad that I couldn't even speak, but we
were also far away from home and near a very busy road. Some man, about 30 years
old came up to me and my mom and helped up. He wrapped my arm around my
shoulder with my hoodie, so it would have support. He also told us that there's a
hospital nearby. My mom called my dad because he was somewhere close, hoping
he would arrive faster than the ambulance and take us to the hospital. We waited
longer than we expected for my dad and the pain just got worse and worse.
At the hospital, I still felt as much or even more pain as before. We still had to wait
so I could go for a scan so the doctors could see what to deal with. In the waiting
room, I saw some girl which looked way younger than me also with a broken arm. I
would talk to her if my injury wouldn't be that painful. I felt pity for her because she
also broke her arm and it was displaced as well. Her mom and mine had a little bit of
chitchat, however, a doctor calling me to fonally put my cast on interrupted them.
The doctor confirmed the fracture of my bone and said he would have to fix the
displacement by hand. I started crying after hearing that, I felt even more fear. The
doctor tried to calm me down by saying that I will get anesthesia around the
fracture and that it would not hurt. Well, he was right about the "fixing the arm by
hand" thing wouldn't hurt. The syringe did. After, the doctor put on a plaster cast
and said we are ready to go home. The whole evening was so tiring and I was
grateful it was over. The first thing I did when we got home, I went to sleep. It was
almost 11 p.m., and I was exhausted and just wanted to rest.
The next few weeks were difficult. Since I am right-handed it was tough to do simple
everyday things like eating or writing, but later I got used to it. My friends were
supportive and helped me for eg. take notes. It was easier in school though, because
I didn't have to take any notes and didn't have to write any quizzes. Four weeks into
recovery, the pandemic got worse and it switched back to online school. It was
easier for me because I could just type all of my notes.
On October 19th, 2020, I went to the hospital again. When I arrived at the hospital a
doctor called me to take my cast off. It happened to be the same doctor that put it on.
He told me that i recovered well, and the cast would be easy to take off. After taking
it off it was such a relief. My hand was very thin though. It was still hard to move it,
however after a few days I fully recovered and everything went back to normal. It
was difficult having my arm broken, especially my dominant one and i hope it will
never happen again.
