Hydrologic Analysis

This engineering report analyzes the proposed drainage network for a 2-story socialized housing development using the Rational Method. Calculations determine the peak discharge from the catchment area is 20,573 cubic meters per hour, which is well above the required discharge of 403.97 cubic meters per hour. A 750mm reinforced concrete pipe was selected, which has a cross-sectional area of 0.442 square meters, greater than the required area of 0.147 square meters. The report concludes the proposed drainage system is adequate to handle stormwater runoff from the development with safety factors of 3.01 for pipe sizing and 50.93 for catchment discharge capacity.

INTRODUCTION
RPCORSINO CADD CAMP has been appointed as Design and Consultancy of “JV DUMDUMA
TRADING AND CONSTRUCTION CORPORATION AND HABAKKUK CORPORATION” for the
preparation of the following Engineering Report for the People’s Plan Community Team
Work HOAI HDH Housing Project a 2-Storey Socialized Housing located in Sitio Pasong
Palanas Brgy. San Juan Antipolo, Rizal and it is funded by Social Housing Finance
Corporation.
The study will consist of the identification of the Drainage Flood peak discharges
within the Area of PEPCOTEK HDH Housing Project for input in Hydraulic Analysis to
determine the carrying capacity of the drainage at the exits and sizing of the Drainages as
shown in the Lay out attached.
STORM WATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM
METHODOLOGY
It is necessary to adopt a methodology for estimating the storm water
runoffs and to asse the capacity of the proposed Roadside Drains to cope with such flows. It
is to be noted that slots drains will be used in the Project.
The Rational Method will be used for the said study.
This Method is an Empirical formula that relates run-off from a catchment to the intensity of
the rainfall and the size of the catchment. A coefficient is introduced to account for the
manner in which the type of land use within the project site and the structure of the
catchment affect the rate of the run-off.
The basic form of the equation is thus:
PEAK DISCHARFE, Q = Runoff Coefficient x Intensity x Area.

Where:
Qt = Discharge (m3/s) for return period T
Ct = Runoff coefficient for return period T
It = Intensity (mm/hr) for return period T
A = Area (km2)

➢ CATCHMENT AREA
The Catchment Area is shown below:

DETAILED CALCULATIONS

Using the basic form of the equation:

Peak Discharge, Qt = Runoff Coefficient x Intensity x Area
Qt = Ct x It x A
Where:
Qt = Discharge (m3/s) for return period T
Ct = Runoff coefficient for return period T
It = Intensity (mm/hr) for return period T
A = Area (km2)
Ct = 1
It = 7.5mm

A = 53,862 𝑚2
7.5 𝒎𝟑
𝑄𝑅𝑒𝑞′𝑑 = 1 x 1000 x 53,862 = 403.97 𝒉𝒓

𝒇𝒕 𝒎
Assume Velocity : 2.5 or 2,743.10 𝒉𝒓
𝒔
403.97
𝐴𝑅𝑒𝑞′𝑑 = 2,743.10 = 0.147 m2

Proposed Drainage Layout is 750mm diameter ( Reinforced Concrete Pipes )

𝜋 (0.75)^2
Ap = 4
= 0.442 m2

‫ ؞‬Area required is less than the Area proposed (RCP) Factor of Safety = 3.01
Volume Catchment
Length = 100m
Width = 2.5m
Depth = 3m
Vc = 100 x 2.5 x 3 = 750m3
Q = AV
Q = ( 2.5 x 3 ) (2,743.10 )
Q = 20,573 m3/hr

CONCLUSION
‫ ؞‬The discharge of the Catchment (Q) is 20,573 m3/hr and it is more than the required
discharge. Factor of Safety = 50.93
